Now Adam Reed, the co-creator of the show, is working on a new cartoon for FX that looks alright.

CN was awesome when AS showed a ton of anime + comedies and regular CN showed old-school cartoons. As opposed to kicking all the OG stuff off the channel it was created for and onto Boomerang, and putting stupid live-action bullshit + retarded shows like Tim and Eric + whatever terrible Flash made cartoon is recent.
simply put, CN is pulling what G4 TV did who did what Nickelodeon did who did what MTV did.
they make a network dedicated to one thing and it works…for a time…then they know it’ll fall so they have to broaden the audience and viewers by adding new programs that eventually delve away from the main purpose of said network. Then of course you spin off a 2nd channel/network that is all about what you originally wanted to see…which then digresses as well and just takes whatever leftover shit was on the 1st channel. Meanwhile the original channel is a mere shell of its former self.
Yeah. TBH, I can’t fault AS for changing up. I know what good shit is on there, and I know how to tune in for it. Back in its “glory days,” I never watched much except for Family Guy and ATHF in the first place.
But I have to LOL at people still talking shit on MTV not playing many videos after all these years. You’ve been able to watch videos online anytime for the longest.

Not the point. When MTV (Read: Music Television) first came on scene in the 80’s, that was the entire point of it. Watching music vids for the most part with a few other things thrown in for measure. And a variety of them might I add. Now, it’s gone to basically playing a couple genres of music in the late 90’s + unrelated stuff to now they don’t play shit. MTV circa 1980’s > anything that shows up on that shit channel now.
Inferno’s pointing out the same damn thing with CN and G4TV and I actually did over in the Lounge thread as well when TS prompted this same stuff. This broadening your audience shit is bull. You lose you’re core audience and TBH, I don’t think it really widens it for everyone else like they think it does. Why the fuck would I go to MTV to watch some bullshit reality show when I can flip through a dozen other channels that are playing the same crap? Why would I tune in to G4TV to watch Cops when IT’S ON ANOTHER DOZEN DIFFERENT CHANNELS? These people that run these stations can’t think at all.
Thats why MTV 2 was created. Strictly for music videos.
And look what happened to that channel. It’s basically MTV with all the leftover shows.
Logically, MTV2 should be playing the other shit, while MTV should be for music.
Also, MTV has about 100x the distribution of MTV2. Most cable providers aren’t going to give you the choice, so even calling it MTV borders on being false advertising at this point.

I’m feeling what you guys are saying, and feel that MTV should have more music based programming like America’s Best Dance Crew.
But you’re talking about a network staying afloat mostly off of music videos. Music videos that could be watched on youtube or any other vid-related site anytime. For years now. Do you really think a channel like that would last?
I say MTV should become PopTV. Court TV and The Nashville Network changed their names when the programming changed. Why cling to the M?
Because it’s iconic and the brand is recognized. That seems stupid, but it’s probably true. I have yet to see any big brand change it’s name even if they change something crucial about themselves.
And even if they do, it’ll be something minor. Like the WWF getting sued and “morphing” into the WWE.
Or you can go to MTV3. Did you know there’s an MTV3? I didn’t know until I got my digital cable hooked up. According to the listing, they show music videos.
Oh, and it’s a subscription channel. Isn’t that surprising.
