SNK registers "KOF" trademark

Magegg: lol at 3 or 4 buyers. It’s a little above that.

While I know it’s more appropriate to say this via visitor message or whatnot, I feel it must be publicly announced that your screen name is pure dopeness. : D

In other words KOF XIII does not have a player base nor anyone playing on it? It’s hard to even laugh at this one.

Am I the only one who has knowledge that PS2 continued to have games released for almost three years when the PS3 was out? I thought this was common knowledge. One year is nothing. PS3 is not a mediocre console. It is more than adequate at generating games for “this generation”, whatever that means. If it’s a 2d fighter, it doesn’t even need the PS4’s capabilities to stay good, I don’t see what all the fuss is about. Short-sighted? I think you’re close-minded.

Your idea of competition is rather short-sighted. I think I’ve heard this one before. “Oh there’s only one or two fighting games coming out for this console? It must be old and wrinkly, I’ll go here where all this NEW stuff is because I want to be current!”

I suppose that’s the reason MvC2 was at EVO for ten years, right? I mean, did you really just call every KOF player a mainstream douche?

For the record, the KOF franchise is niche too. You have nothing to worry about Street Fighter overshadowing nor undershadowing KOF. If we’re talking 1 vs. 1 decision between buying one of the two, no Street Fighter player even looks this way to begin with minus PR Rog. lol Players who enjoy fighting games more than likely play not only one but a variety of games, for variety’s sake. As a real life example I can use myself. I bought both KOF XIII and USF4, and I just bought BlazBlue yesterday. xD

Except a reason you can’t think of as a businessman, which you kind of aren’t. And neither am I. But I think my speculation is a lot better than yours, personally. Feel free to debate me on that, I’m willing to listen to you.

You’re ignoring a lot of things that are contributing to these situations you claim are just how things work. The PS2 totally did have competition after the PS3 came out. Because the first major fighting game to be released for the console was SF4. I think Battle Fantasia was out but no one cared about that game and they still don’t. There was nothing on the PS3 to draw people from the PS2. People played MvC2 for 10 years because there was no MvC3 to take its place. Meanwhile the PS4 already has Injustice and Xrd is on the way real fucking soon. The shift of fightersvto the new console has happened much faster. It would be ignorant to assume that what happened with the PS2 will be the same thing that happened with the PS3.

Additionally, let’s just forget about competitive players for a moment. The CASUAL audience has shiftesvmuch faster this generation than the last as well. No one was eager to drop $600 to get a triple, which affected sales for years. Hell, the 360 wasn’t selling all that amazing until Halo 3 came out either. The PS2/Xbox gen lasted longer than it should have because the next gen didn’t have much appeal. It hasn’t even been a year yet and the PS4 has already sold 10 million units. The Xbine is up to like 6 million itself. Tons of people have switched gens already, and of the peoe who have they are buying multiplats on their new system because it’s new. This leads to sales leaning on new consoles.

So again, to expect PS2 results to just repeat themselves just because would be foolish. Everything has changed and there’s no reason to assume similar outcomes.

I’ll be honest with you, I presumed Injustice was total niche marketing. Guilty Gear is in the same boat. There isn’t as much offensive hype as you would think. Maybe you’re overestimating the market a little bit. Just a little. xD

The casual market is always ruining things. To try and make decisions based on that would be a bad idea n and of itself. Look what happened to FPSes. I thought SNK was more of a IDGAF type of company, so can I ask you again if you think the KOF franchise is supposed to be mainstream? This is not a question meant to bait you or anything. I honestly want to know if you think it needs to be a market consumable rather than a demographic-specific doggy treat like it should.

And to twist things further, I’ll go back to the first paragraph. Guilty Gear? Not even close to Casual. Half the competition is out the window because those “sales” won’t go towards a hard-as-sh*t to play video game. Injustice maybe. I’ve only seen one or two combo videos and an EVO play.

Furthermore, neither will KOF with it’s amazingly technical mechanics that don’t suit people who just want to fireball all day, so we are also out of the window. Like I said, you’re looking at a market that doesn’t really pertain to us all that much. We would not be taking a loss by going to a new system. As far as I’m concerned, we’d make less money trying to appeal to newer gamers and either lose appeal to veterans with crap mechanics or get low unit sales and it doesn’t even come to the West at all.

You know what, that actually sounds realistic. I scratch what I said earlier to you about not being a businessman, haha. According to what I’ve seen done in the video game industry (respected company or not), your logic sounds a lot like theirs. XD XD I’m not making fun of you, honestly. Good call, I’ll bet it only comes to the PS4 and I’m anticipating what will happen even more now. lololol

I’m going to cut this short because the walls of text are starting to drown the thread. Casuals don’t need to be an expert on a fighting game to buy it. It doesn’t matter how hard GG is to play at a competent level, it just has to look pretty to get your attention long enough to make you drop cash. Casuals buy fighters all the time and drop them a week later.

And KoF should absolutely appeal to the broad market where it can, like being on the new consoles. Simply put if they only market to the small niche that already plays their games they’re going to have a hard time covering the cost of development. And that is how they went bankrupt the first time. Do you want KoF to die? Do you think SNK deserves to go out of business? Because if you do, then keep wanting them to stay where they are right now. The only way for a business to survive is to have the biggest audience possible, and in 2 years time the biggest audience sure as hell isn’t going to be fighting game players who like KoF and don’t own a new console.

in the case of going for the biggest audience possible no matter what…applying for pc platform (be it steam or not) should take priority over next gen consoles and arcades, and every company whould just do that. My impression is that things aren’t so simple, there probably are other things to consider.

You can’t be serious about Injustice. It a game featuring DC characters. Comic fans and fans of the characters from other mediums would be mildly interested in the game. Game was in the #1 spot in it’s debut month and stayed in the top 10 for another three months. Injustice must have broken past the 2 million mark by now. Power of DC

I honestly don’t see Guilty Gear having trouble securing a casual market for itself. Causal anime fans will leach on to GG like they have with Blazblue. Arc Systems have been good about having extensive story modes for their games so that part of the fanbase will be satisfied.

People should also stop replying to people that use “XD” and other stupid emoticons, that bold words for emphasis, that caps lock words for emphasis, and that pull numbers/statistics out of their asses without even referring to a credible source.

Okay you got me there, but like I said I just presumed man. xD

I wonder. To be honest I’ve seen anime fans complain about mechanics and actually reject games despite having good story. But I wouldn’t know who’s the minority and who’s not, regarding that. If we were talking FMA this would be a less generalized conversation. lol I know Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 was claimed un-tournament worthy to it’s own players. No one likes DBZ’s Raging Blast or Infinite whatever and Tenkaichi 2/3 still claims top for them. That’s just the stories I’ve heard personally though.

Alright then how about this.

I just saved 15% on my car insurance by switching to GEICO!

Why don’t you try doing the same instead of whining about it without even quoting me. If you were so high and elite you could shut me up with a mere source. I’ve seen it done on many internets. And you apparently can’t? Let me put an “XD” to emphasize that. lmao

I don’t mean fans that prefers the type of fighters like Guilty Gear. I mean fans of actual anime. The demographic will would be attracted to the aesthetics, type of characters and story a game like GG would provide. I’ve known groups fans that wouldn’t give a shit about the mechanics of those games. They are interested in the characters and lore. It’s this fanbase that will make up Guilty Gear’s casual audience.

SNKP registered new trademark for Maximum Impact

To be fair, SNK has been putting out trademarks on a bunch of shit. It doesn’t necessarily confirm a new MI game, just a trademark.

The new trademarks could be renewals. Filing a trademark doesn’t mean something new is being worked on.

HD collection of Maximum Impact games most likely

On mobile.

I love Maximum Impact Regulation A. Best Ash Crimson hands down.

I don’t wanted to be that guy, but seeing that people are falling for this…

Snk basically is filing trademark registration request for almost everything they own, including old titles like Beat Busters, Gekka no Kenshi (last blade), old pachinkos, name of characters, logos, etc. You will find all of this in the same trademark bot that people are linking (for example, Samurai Spirits/Samurai shodown was just filled yesterday https://twitter.com/trademark_bot/status/504375238751051776 ).

Someone maciously laser aimed what would be more controverse to create this “news” in twitter and etc. And other sites (like reddit, neo gaf, shoryuken dot com, etc) started to reproduce this “news”, for not verifying it properly or as a clickbait. Unfortunately, it’s more probable to be as a clickbait, seeing that they are reproducing every “rumor” as “news”.

So SNK probably isn’t filling all this because they are going to make new games of them (like a new beat busters). They just want to be sure to mantain their IP. This is in the realm of speculation too, but of all the trademark registration requests, the only ones have a chance to be a new game in development are 3 different logos with the name Asamiya Athena, maybe a reedition of psycho soldiers for cellphone or something.

I’ll be honest with you, I think you have no idea what anime fans are like. You’re talking an anime fan, and I don’t know all of them, but…yeah. Aesthetic has huge range the more niche you are, mechanics matter to us just as much as tourneyfags sometimes, and GG’s story is about as well-written as…oh wait there is no story. lol

Oh yeah, I remembered why I said that thing about DC now. Honestly, I think Arkham Asylum series is DC’s only saving grace, game wise (aside from DC Universe Online). MvC’s popularity pushed it out of the window before it could even get in with the fighting game genre.

I’m pretty surprised by it’s comeback though. Injustice nearly matched MvC3 in sales and DC vs. MK went above by .70 million. I think only UFC and Street Fighter reached the 2 million mark this gen. I may need to update my sources though. EDIT: Nah, I was right.
