You’re ignoring a lot of things that are contributing to these situations you claim are just how things work. The PS2 totally did have competition after the PS3 came out. Because the first major fighting game to be released for the console was SF4. I think Battle Fantasia was out but no one cared about that game and they still don’t. There was nothing on the PS3 to draw people from the PS2. People played MvC2 for 10 years because there was no MvC3 to take its place. Meanwhile the PS4 already has Injustice and Xrd is on the way real fucking soon. The shift of fighters to the new console has happened much faster. It would be ignorant to assume that what happened with the PS2 will be the same thing that happened with the PS3.

Additionally, let’s just forget about competitive players for a moment. The CASUAL audience has shifted much faster this generation than the last as well. No one was eager to drop $600 to get a triple, which affected sales for years. Hell, the 360 wasn’t selling all that amazing until Halo 3 came out either. The PS2/Xbox gen lasted longer than it should have because the next gen didn’t have much appeal. It hasn’t even been a year yet and the PS4 has already sold 10 million units. The Xbone is up to like 5 million itself. Tons of people have switched gens already, and of the people who have they are buying multiplats on their new system because it’s new. This leads to sales leaning on new consoles.

So again, to expect PS2 results to just repeat themselves just because would be foolish. Everything has changed and there’s no reason to assume similar outcomes.

This. PS3 wasn’t exactly popular like the PS1 & the PS2 were.

The only reason why PS3 (as well as Xbox 360) had longer lifespans than the usual 5 to 6 year console cycles, was not only because that the PS3 & 360 were unappealing, but also because of both Sony & Microsoft were trying to recoup the losses of what they had with both the PS3 & 360 from it’s earlier years. More & more people have been buying Xbox One’s & especially PS4’s ever since they’ve been released because they’re tired of last generation, especially when PS3’s turning 8 years old while Xbox 360’s turning 9 years old this November.

By the time that Winter 2015 comes, no one will care about PS3 & 360 anymore, as everyone will be playing on their Xbox One’s & PS4’s as a whole. Heck, people have been buying cross-gen games on PS4 & Xbox One more so than on PS3 & 360. Even those that held onto their PS3’s for Persona 5 were ditching their PS3’s now that the game has been announced for PS4 back a few days ago.

That’s why it would be smart if 3rd party publishers were to just focus on making future fighting games for PS4 & Xbox One.

I’m loyal to the KOF brand but not SNK, so if they can’t take care of this franchise i hope Capcom or a bigger company with a more international vision buys this from them.

Capcom? LOL. They wouldn’t do KOF characters justice. Besides, they’re already struggling financially as it is, & they don’t exactly have an internal fighting game development team like they used to have.

They had to hire Backbone Entertainment to help develop Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix, had to hire Dimps to help them make Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter IV, SSF IV: Arcade Edition, & SF x Tekken, had to hire Eighting to help develop Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 & Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, & are now hiring Dimps again to help them make another fighting game (probably Street Fighter V).

KOF would fit more with Arc System Works &/or Dimps, especially when they at least have some Ex-SNK employees on those companies. And same with the Vampire/Darkstalkers series, IMO.

What would you think if SNK decides to return to their “classic” ('96-2005) sprites?

If that means new KOF games being released every 2-3 years instead of every 7, I’d be OK with that.
