I was kind of half joking with the Honda counter pick comments, thus the smiley.
I’ve played him many times in that match and though Honda still has the edge IMO, he makes the matches very close and very stressful. Let him in once and it’s probably over.
HUGE C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S to Snake Eyes on the win!!
Great job dude.
Also HUGE props to DGV who took the Winners and battled all the way to the end of the Finals.
So close!
I expect you’ll be requesting some mirror match marathons with Snake Eyes.
And HUGE props to Afro, who not only took down the Beast in the mirror, but also battled to the top of Losers and only fell to the eventual Champ. (in a sequel to their WCW2 Finals)
Not to mention all the other top names that you guys took out along the way.
So. Cal!
Contratulations to all the Top 8:
Snake Eyez
DGV
AfroLegends
Daigo Umehara
Jason Cole
Tokido
Alex Valle
RyRy
You all put on an AMAZING show for all of us watching.
DAMN that was fun to watch.
And major props to DNGR S PAPERCUT and the other players who missed the Top 8 cut by the narrowest of margins. (anyone have a list of places beyond 8th?)
I WISH they had been streaming the HDR elimination rounds so I could have watched all the epic slugfests.
Congrats to Snake Eyes, he really deserved it by beating all of us down, lol. Remarkable play. He showed great clutch and composure and my hat goes off to him.
Congrats to DGV for 2nd. He played well the entire tournament and was just beasting everyone. He deserved to win it as much as Snake Eyes.
I played pretty decent. I just wasn’t as sharp as I would have liked. I overlooked Snake Eyes after playing him at WCW2 and he adapted and outplayed me. All in all, I’m just happy I finally got my revenge vs Daigo. He was the one guy I wanted to beat more than anyone at the tournament. Just too bad it took me 4 years…
I hope everyone had fun for those that went, and please come back next year so we can do it again.
I was the judge for the Pool of death that had Kuni, Sirlin, Choi, Snake Eyez, Pete Talley, etc. Let me just make one thing clear:
Snake eyez is RREEEEEAAAALLLLLYYYYY FUUUUCCCKKKIIINNNGG GOOOOOODDDDD :looney:
He was getting counter-picked all day in pools. Straight smashed through peoples sims and hondas. Rape-factor plus, it was truly a thing of beauty watching how freak good snake eyez is with gief (on PAD nonethless).
Kuni had to play Sirlin twice in pool play and lost to him both times. Sirlin picked cammy vs gief and he beat Kuni in losers finals (of the pool) to qualify for semis.
No luck involved in SnakeEyez win. Dude had to beat top opponent after top opponent (how many people out there make Choi look free?!?!). Choi BEASTED through everyone in pool play which makes SnakeEyez dismantling of him that more impressive.
I saw SnakeEyez in the restroom right after semis and told him they shouldve just given him the title after his win over Choi. Dude is mad humble and a competitor. He told me thanks and that he wished he could’ve played against Daigo too but he was already in losers, LOL. I should change my name to Paul the Octopus.
Congrats SnakeEyez, take that fight money all the way too the bank
PS. Also props to Afrolegends for making The Beast look mad free in HDR…
Congrats to everyone who made top 8, and of course especially snake eyez.
I was rooting for dgv & afro before the final 8 but snake eyez’s performance really make me switch sides lol. (i think gamerbee also achieved the same feat)
It still amazes me that daigo & tokido can play at super high level despite that they don’t play or practice sf2 anymore.
The stream was cut off right after the ssf4 ceremony where they announced the MVP of EVO 2010. Did gamerbee / snake eyez take it?
I’m officially a huge fan of Afro Cole. Nobody can wear an afro with his button-ups tucked in like that, LOL. Zangief might be low-tier but his power can often overcome it. He only needs to get in once, that’s the beauty of it. The range on his SPD is also nuts and he does well against the higher-tier characters.
Their list is really wrong. A lot of it is wrong. I posted in another thread what mistakes I knew of off the top of my head. Afro took out Daigo with outstanding showmanship in an entertaining rog mirror match. One of my fav matches of the whole event.
Dude, Snake, I already told ya, that shit was so hype! Congrats bro! Congrats to all the top 8, those were some amazing matches.
Thanks to everyone that made our casual room the shit! It was great meeting all the guys I’ve only ever played online, and all the OGs that came to kick it was dope. Our room was packed with 20 or so people Saturday and Sunday! Team tournaments, man that shit was so much fun. Best EVO yet!
Oh, and Honda doesn’t counter Snake Eyes. He laughs at headbutts!
I want a Money match with Snake eyes Gief vs my Honda, First to 5 wins in St and HD total winner takes the pot. So if Snake eyes wins in HD in 5-2 i must win in at least 5-1, if its 5-2 its a tie if i win 5-3 in ST i lose!
if he didn’t face any top level sim or honda, would you really blame him? he has no control of how others will do, and all anyone can really hope for (in his position) is to get pass their current opponent. imo, this was the biggest and best surprise of evo. he won with gief, hasn’t really been on the tournament scene prior (what else has he won as far as tourneys?), and he uses control pad. any1 of those will usually spell doom for a player’s chance of winning a major tourney, let alone evo.
supposedly he also played cole in a good amount of matches (casuals) and he beat cole convincingly (and alot i heard). i would say cole was the best sim there, and maybe 1 of the best in usa (he made top 8 this evo, so he was definitely on point). if he was able to do that to cole, in a good amount of matches, vs. cole’s sim - i’d say snake eyez is the real deal. more so impressive since most on this forum were expecting a ryu, balrog, sim, or maybe vega to win it.
