That’s true, it’s cool to see a good showing for HDR no matter who joins, but I would think that the ones that don’t practice HDR shouldn’t have the highest expectations of winning 1st place. I don’t really think they care as much about the HDR tournament as they do about SF4, but play more for a “let’s see if I can still win this since it’s similar to ST” type reason. The point i was making is that if you choose to stay a die hard ST player, you must realize that HDR players are going to use the new changes more advantageously and might just whoop you. An HDR player has no real reason to go back to ST to prove anything to anyone since ST is not the version used at tournaments or supported by psn or xbox. If anything, ST players need to prove their skills in HDR (which alot of them do)
yeah i shouldn’t have group them but i thought Ryu/Ken had a 5.5 advantage over gief. I agree there actually quite few under appreciated characters in HDR. A lot of the old school peeps are continuing to play HDR the way they play ST. unlike Snake Eyes he decided to take the extra step & actually learn the in & out of Gief. Practice the bad matchups & adapt to it. When he applied it, a lot of them were not ready for this & probably the reason why he dominated those great ST players like Choi & Coles.
What about the other low tier characters like Cammy. Fei, & T-hawk. Not many people use these characters & im sure there are some new stuff they can abuse that has yet been discovered.
I don’t know if this was pointed out yet or not, but just because a character is a bad matchup for another character doesn’t necessarily mean that they automatically are ranked higher than that character. Speaking strictly HDR here, I’m sure that while Zangief may have an easier time with Ryu than he does with, say, Chun Li, that doesn’t mean that Zangief has less bad matchups than Ryu does. I’m sure if someone posted that matchup chart that Thelo drafted in the consensus tier thread, we would see examples of that. I’m sure there are other fighting game tier charts that bear this out as well. Sorry, Milo, but that stuck out to me.
You’re right, I just forgot to be specific. I was referring to Tokido and Kuni.
OMG… All this debating about ST this vs. R that, vs. Remix this. You know what? I think you should all quit crying, put a pacifier in your mouth, shut the fuck up and go practice some Zangief if you think he’s so overpowered. That way you can have an easy win at EVO next year. LMAO!
SnakeEyez did what he did because he knows what you want to do at almost every situation. He’s a good player and on top of that a really cool dude.
EDIT (Back in per Milo’s request): Quit being such a fucking hater Milo. FFS! Why do you have to hate on everything?
Fine Milo… Quit being such a fucking hater.
Hey Pete, just so you know, I saw your post before you edited out the “Quit being a f*cking hater Milo! FFS why do you have to hate on everything??”
You should have left that in.
EDIT (EA Megaman assents): Thanks Pete, much obliged!
bottom linez
- You’re playing HDR. Not ST
- shat ap !
- hey snakeeyes , grats!
- and hey… that was about it
- peace nig!
I don’t even understand why Kuni is a topic in this thread since he doesn’t play HDR. The only reason I see why is to prop up Snake Eyez at Kuni’s expense, which makes no sense and like I said earlier, an unfair statement.
Kuni was/is a beast with ST Zangief.
Snake Eyez is a beast with HDR Zangief and I think just about everyone here has reiterated that fact.
But there is a legitimate debate about R.Gief to be had. Just saying “he won because he knows what to do in every situation” doesn’t tell the full story. And personally, I’m also interested in that technical debate.
Yeah he does. I chatted with him a bit before the tourney and asked if he had practiced HDR recently and he replied “yes.” He many not play as much as the the poeple in top 3 (lol, who does?) but unless he was completely lying to me during our entire conversation about HDR and what he liked about it, I wouldn’t be making your assessment. Kuni’s got a mean HDR Gief too. He was doing his own fair share of beasting until he ran into the Great Wall of Cammy via Sirlin twice during pool play.
Fun story: Kuni almost got in a fight with some So. Cal dudes during SF4 semis cause they wouldnt sit down XD.
On Topic: For Zangief being such a favorable match against Ryu, DGV seemed to be holding his own pretty well against SnakeEyez :looney:
It will be hard to quantify. (You probably know this but…) Gief’s lariats shut down the shotos’ projectile game, his st.forward shuts down their defensive ground game, so they are forced to not block and perform risky actions such as walk up sweep, walk up cr.frw xx hadouken, SRK/st.str/st.fierce/st.short from a range it might whiff or a hadouken in between Gief’s pokes. SRK might get a st.frw, but it is not worth it IMO. All those actions are risky and make it harder to keep enough focus for DPing jump-ins or simply prevent it due to move recovery. They had somewhat hard matches in ST and in HDR Gief has improved ground game either offensively (running bear grab, hop) or defensively (kick lariat).
For a historical perspective, you might enjoy this older thread snippet (Sept 2009) where people discussed how strongly Ken (and to a lesser degree, Ryu) beats Zangief.
i think you are over exaggerating this matchup…This is an even matchup if not Ryu advantage
I don’t mean literally. I’m talking competitively. I play SSFIV some but I wouldn’t call myself a competitive SSFIV player by any stretch. Experienced players can get by for the most part just on their ST experience (just like Daigo and Tokido did) but they’re going to hit a point where they need to have intimate knowledge of HDR to advance further.
Heh, yeah. He told me about that story. Sounds like a bunch of jerkoffs.
I hate this community I really fucking do and this is the last straw for me. Was someone in here hinting at me calling me a nerd saying someone supported HDR? Was it the drill baby drill avatar person?
I am not saying names and am not accusing anyone in this forum because what I have to say is of someone imaginary Someone in this thread is the stupidiest fucking moron I have ever read anything of.
I nearly vomited when I read the trash that was posted. I couldn’t even read most of the last two pages because it was people rehashing the same shit that was already covered.
I now see why I hate forums and regret registering here so much and would like a mod to even close my fucking account. Talking means nothing to some of the block heads here. I now understand why war was invented because talking does not do anything when there are a bunch of thick skulled ignoramus bitches around.
I hope Snake Eyez leaves the HDR community because guess what you pussies don’t deserve to see him play.
Rehash ST vs HDR in your dreams and for eternity. I am not and will never even speak of SFII again. It no longer even exists to me after this post. The community ruined this fucking game for me for a while now and this thread really shows why.
You see I liked the game and played it and was extremely negative when I played one of the worst sometimes and gave shit to anyone that was ever nice to me because I knew from the beginning how fake the SFII community was and how big of bitches people were and how big their egos were.
I even said once to someone I have no love of tournaments or getting better at the game. I just want to either talk trash to people in the game or beat them up in the game. I just wanted to pound people with rushdown balrog because I do not care about any of your respect in the least and should have never defended myself and should have not tried to change my ways. I am going back to my old ways and am just going to be extremely rude to everyone from now on that I come across and its not going to be on SRK because I am done here.
I leave you all with a quote from Akuma from Alpha 3
“Don’t talk… Just fight!”
Talking is over for me on forums because it is worthless.
Nice! Allow me to quote Damdai from that post (although it’s unclear whether he’s referring to ST or HDR): “Zangief doesn’t have an advantage over Ken. Ken beats him 7-3 or worse.”
I think we just made that guy rage quit the forum… that’s a first?
Good Czar Bad Czar, dont really care just dont quit…
No, man, I am not. But do know that I simply omitted shotos’ tools when they get a knockdown for the sake of brevity and for they are not really the issue here, but Gief’s tools. By having proper reflexes (nothing amazing, but enough to react to somewhat unsuspected jumps) and good reads it should get to around 5.5 Gief x 4.5 Ryu in VST.
Edit: as VST is not the point, at least not the main one, if you desire we can discuss it a bit in the Ryu ST thread, or the Gief ST thread. Regards!
