so i was dicking around with dante and iron man earlier against some online ppl, and i was having trouble getting a solid hit in with dante, so i was just doing reverb shock, call unibeam, reverb shock cancel into fireworks, and it was doing so much chip, and building so much meter, and it seems extremely safe, so i was wondering if there was a reason why people dont use this as a go-to strategy? or if im just bad and cant land a clean hit

I was messing around in training today and Dante has some pretty good anti airs. Against an approaching spencer who always uses the zipline move to approach covered by an assist. (I used hawkeye’s triple arrow) On reaction twister, jam session and Million Carats can beat it. Crystal can beat the approach but it starts up too slow.

Better off just going for a grab than to risk going for any of that stuff. do it to late or to early and you just left yourself open to get ToD’d by Spencer. And why Jam session? you will just get hit by the assist.

Dante’s best anti air would probably be his standing M I think.

Hey guys, asked this in the vergil thread, but I’ve been trying to flesh out my neutral game for Dante(and his brother), and I’m curious how you guys handle calling assists(particularly beam assists, I use Magnus disruptor) for all Dante’s teleport mixups, that he enforces in his neutral game. Any Video of Yipes playing is a good example of what I’m getting at, his beam is always called right at the perfect time he teleports with the twins

Are you guys often combining the assist call into a button press ex. for a stinger xx teleport input you would press towards + C + A2 all at the same time, or are you staggering the assist input between the moves. Is it purely based on the setups? A lot of times I call the beam and it just puts them in Ultimate guard or, Magnus just gets clipped because I called him to early etc.

I know it’s very hard to explain neutral game tactics in text form, but any input on the subject would be great!

Pretty sure Yipes just does Stinger+assist

In a set I was just watching, he got hit out of it (as well as his assist) because even with an assist, a raw Stinger is still 14 frames

Please do make said video, Im gradually learning this character and it would be nice to see some applications for said moves in video form. At the moment my neutral game consists solely of air play stinger BC reverb shock with the occassional jump back hammer to create space. Its quite pathetic lol.

Watching yipes’ dante in the japanese 5v5 last night made me completely rethink my dante neutral game. This guy literally goes on roller coasters, being amazing at the tournament with kusoru (can’t remember the name off the top of my head) messing up a couple of majors and then becoming amazing yet again. Is anyone going to be studying his dante and vergil before evo? I’d recommend it.

Okay… Dante vs. Nova (Hawkeye Assist) … how the FUCK do you control this brainless POS character? Seriously, after six months I cannot find anything that will give me a handle on this matchup. It really seems like one of Dante’s bonafide bad ones (and Trish)

Just block until they miss an assist and jump in then anti with m and get a minimum 700k combo dhc and finish him off harder than it sounds until you get a hang of it then it’s easy peasy.

Don’t block Greyhounds, stay above them so that he doesn’t get a mixup opportunity. Anytime Nova attempts to air dash towards you press j.m and take your free combo. If you get slightly above normal jump height then Air Play also shuts down his aerial approach and lets you convert off of a hit/pressure on block. You can also preemptively use Crystal while on the ground, it will nullify Greyhounds and give you a combo if Nova runs into it, or at worst leave you at a large frame advantage.

The derp Nova isn’t really a problem at all. The controlled Nova that protects everything he does is much harder to deal with.

Wait lol misread your comment. Really good point but I feel most dante’s should get into the habit of anti-airing.

Trying to AA s.m a Nova while his assist is headed for you is a really, really bad idea and will get you killed. For Nova or any character that will move toward you in a primarily boxdash type of way, it’s much better to just jump up and fill that area with hitboxes than it is to sit on the ground and attempt to hit them out of it. The same goes for characters with large jumping normals like Haggar and Zero, j.m generally handles them better unless they are almost directly above you.

The only character who can really just sit on the ground and AA everything in sight is Vergil.

Edit: or Crystal. That move is ridiculous.

Most derp nova’s box dash h but I’ve learned to anti-air almost anything possible including tridashes like magnus’ tridash l (but I don’t try it because its near impossible.) Maybe it’s just me, maybe I should learn to j.m because seems like a great option.

These were some pretty entertaining matches lol. at 36:56 Knocturnal wanted a salty runback against Darksim, so from there it’s just those two running a set.

Stepsz 4 things.

  1. Very nice matches.
  2. Decided to use dante doom with a big man (thor in the middle) and the team is amazing. Made a 2 (little over) meter building combo using 1 resulting in 830k damage that is beyond easy.
  3. Found some new dante with missiles thing. I’m sure you know that after shower stinger in the corner sometimes dante lands behind them after the knockdown so I accidentally called doom and the starting missles otg’d (like with magnus and spencer) which was cool and I hammered dashed over but couldn’t continue because I didn’t know what to do with the second round of missiles that otg I’m thinking maybe you can come up with better followup. Could lead to great damage.
  4. I know you are famous for the stepsz dante followup with hard knockdown, call missiles, volcano/bh, s into acid rain jump up m into hammer but I’ve been doing the same thing but instead of jumping I’ve been doing volcano into jc s and its more damaging and I think it builds more meter. Any disadvantages to that?

For your third question; I did find something along those lines in the corner with Dante and Doom missiles, I didn’t experiment into it to much though, since I use the Hulk the whole point of my team is to keep you in the corner, that’s where I’ll be hitting you with those 1,000,000 dmg+ Dante combos by DHC’ng into the Hulk from Dante or vice versa.

Your fourth question had me thinking again. I have attempted to mess around with the end of the “StEpSz” combo to try and see if I could find anything that could further optimize the combo, I found a few things but nothing really all that solid that didn’t involve burning meter for Devil Trigger, but just because you asked, I went back to the lab and I found something that might interest you or anyone else that uses Dante with Doom missiles.

When standing M hits the opponent while in the corner it pushes Dante back giving grapple just enough room to connect after acid rain. The potential meter you can get from this combo and/or reset is almost vanilla worthy. I don’t know if this optimizes the combo for damage but it definitely makes it viable for resets and even more meter gain. And as for finding other ways to optimize the combo, by all means go ahead and do whatever you feel to make it better or fit your play style, I’m still trying to find ways to optimize it myself, but for now this is the best I could come up with lol.

NOTE: You can also do this combo or go straight from acid rain into grapple mid screen, instead of doing standing M you just do standing H and then throw out the grapple.

Yo I’m having a bit of trouble gun looping off of a raw hammer hit. I otg volcano jump cancel j.h x air play j.h standing s then attempt the loop but they always fallout or I’ll end up getting prop shredder :frowning:

I really want to find out cuz this combo does more rather than starting with cold shower to prop shredder

Try doing volcano mh airplay.
