Yes birdie is very hard to deal with, not bec of his neutral game but his buttons reach u pretty easily.
Vskill + p
Dash straight
Dashing up to him is more situational bec of his range.
So what do we do now?

I’ve aways let birdie kill himself. He’s a character that wants you to come to him. Neutral jump the dive grab, block the chain for a dash punch punish, and if he eats anything, low rush punch.
My experience is that if you initiate this character, he will kill you.
I have bigger issue with Guile personallyin terms of that play style. He wants you to come to him and you have to do it. You have to play guile’s game and let him brutalized you. You just have to hope you guess right to get in and hope to God he doesn’t ex reversal or v reversal you to reset all your hard work. He’s so hard to fight in this version of the game.
Fucking Zangief, man. I can’t beat him. Literally impossible.
Yeah im not a fan and really never been a fan of zangief vs balrog. The Mu is really tense and very restrictive…it was like that in IV where even though rog had a slight advantage it still wasn’t fun because of your dash punches wasn’t spaced correctly then zangief can SPD you. It feels the same way in this version in that gief will flex into SPD if you keep throwing out your dash punches a lot.
I just do dash punch cancel into throw if gief wants to abuse flex a lot. I try to whiff punish his St FP but for every counter gief has atleast balrog has a counter for it too
I’m just going to go ahead and say maybe these are the biggest problem matches for Balrog
-Laura
-Zangief
-Alex
-R Mika
-Vega
-Chun-Li
-Guile
I’d say long range buttons/strong keep away and good knock down mix up pressure is what gets Balrog the worst. I haven’t fought to many Alex’s, but on paper he’d seem like the worst possible match up. He even gets better rush punches than us.
Ive fought a fair few Alexs and normally our rush punch wins. Obviosly not ex tho as he has armour and we dont, but its unsafe!
I just looked up the frame data. Ours come out faster, but aren’t his safer on block because of the push back?
What I meant by “wins” was that if we both do it alex will get hit and rog wont. Due to hit boxes and hurt boxes i guess. Also Alex doesnt bring the elbow up until late in the rush.
Rogs is faster, with a variation that hits low. His is not better
In terms of block and hit advantage as well as what you can do afterwards, Alex and Rog have similar options with the rush punch and chop. With a slight edge to Rog’s of course, because Rog.
Alex gets way more off of Chops than Rog gets off of a Dash Punch on hit. Hp Chop gives a special cancel into knock down or a reset mix up, mp Chop gives a reset mix-up between Powerbomb and st.mp into mp Chop again and lp Chop resets to neutral where he can try to go for Alex shenanigans.
Balrog gets more compared to Alex’s Elbow but Alex doesn’t need to use Elbow against Rog unless he’s whiff punishing or making a read with the EX armour.
I actually really struggle in the Balrog match up as alex. I don’t think Alex has the ability to keep up the constant pressure you need to force Rog to use v meter for his reversal, and I think that rog can convert into big damage much more easily than Alex can off of whiffs. I think Rog has the advantage in the neutral and once he gains a life lead can play very lame and force Alex to take big risks. Combine this with rog’s good corner carry and corner pressure, and solid dash/throw and it becomes a big game of chicken in which rog has the advantage. I think you have to play this one lame and force Alex to do something stupid. Once the momentum shifts in your favor I don’t think Alex has a good way of recovering it.
Personally, I would say it’s 6-4 alex. Cr mp is a pain to deal with rog and Alexei buttons in general just outclass rogs. Yeah, if rog can get the pressure going he wins, but alex cam do the same, but doesn’t have to. He can lame it out.
Agree with all of these but chun. Rog actually does well in that matchup. 5-5 likely.
Really? I feel like thst fight is utterly unwinnable. It’s the worst I’ve personally experienced. How do you get around her longer and faster buttons? She outright murders rog in neutral. How do you get anything started?
I think rog suffers in mid range and under pressure. Chun is stronger than all other character’s at mid and her pressure with the instant air legs is insane.
You can cr fierce air legs on startup. Counter hit in neutral with st mk> dash punch. Have to get used to catching limbs wirh this. Also st hp is very good in this matchup. She will crumble under pressure the exact same way rog will, except you can get in safely with plus frames.

Noted. Thanks for the tips. Chun is so rare for me to fight. I haven’t bothered to learn the match up like I should.
Anyone have any opinion on how the matchup against Dictator goes? I feel like he just mashes on buttons in the mid-range and boxer has to block forever and just get chipped out to death. I feel like I never get an opportunity to take my turn and Dictator is never close enough to be any kind of threat.
Do any of you guys have any videos of Alex giving balrog problems? I have heard that alex can “play lame” from multiple people so I am assuming that I’m wrong and am playing the match up horribly, because I cannot crack Balrog as an Alex main. Pls show me how they are beating you.

Well you beat me last night at beefs! Lol
