looks like it’s their loss then :<
Maybe, you also got t realize they DO have access to SF, BUT they are the same kids who mash on the buttons and get instantly sonned. Or they think the two big combos they mastered are somehow going to compensate for years of studying strategy and in game experience, once they actually face someone good, they give up. It’s inevitable, SF IS the screening process for players who have big nuts and can stick around wasting 5 dollars in tokens getting OCV’d by Koreans. It’s not for everyone, and it’s not easy to see yousrelf getting better when the game is so deep so a lot of people give up before they ever reap any rewards, I mean any streetfighter game gets infinitly more fun at high play(for me, save some exeptions) but to get there is no (mario) party.
also i started playing mvc2
I love how this thread didn’t even get past page one before a bunch of mouth breathing retards resurrected the tired “Is Smash a fighting game or not?” argument. I hope you’re all sterile.
Nobody is arguing that.(retard!)
thank you for this
What’s wrong with Smash Bros’ depth? Especially Melee’s. I can understand having a preference, or, say, the idea that Street Fighter kicks Melee’s ass in terms of controlling space, but there are a lot of great things to be said for competitive Melee too. Posts like this
pretty much seem entirely ignorant to me.
That’s a bad representation of the smash community, I’m not too sure about Brawl because a ton of good melee players dislike it, but turning off items and allowing half the stages really isn’t too “gay.” The only other rules are just concerning infinite stalling and glitches that either freeze the game or make one player lose control of his character infinitely.
If it’s in the game why dont they allow it?(not bait)
The problem is, MAGUS1234’s post is completely true. Smash Brothers games are designed around the target audience, which Nintendo knows QUITE well. Their target audience is fairly young, has a short attention span, and needs sparkly shit blowing up every few seconds to be entertained. The fact that Smash Brothers started to grow some depth is mostly from the 1% of smashers that tried to play the game beyond the level it was designed for. It’s pretty much just serendipity that it worked out. Smash has depth, but it wasn’t designed to be a tourney fighter. It was designed to make a shitpile of money, which it does. The fact that many people feel it’s up to the standards of tourney games is just that - fact. If people want to play it at tourneys, it’ll get played. I don’t like it, but then again I don’t like MvC2. I don’t care what people spend their time on that doesn’t affect me.
Well yeah, but the way Magus presented his post made it seem like he doesn’t think Smash has nearly as much depth as other tourny fighters.
Items were allowed in Melee but were eventually phased out for a variety of reasons. It’s an option, and it isn’t “banned” so much as “unpopular.” There are still items tournaments, it’s a fairly legitimate alternative to some people, but they are generally unsuccessful. shrug
I agree, smash is for people that can’t handle a real fighting game
Also smash is not a real fighting.Since when a triditional fighting game counts on who ever has the most points wins??? Only reason why smash is at evo is because it brings in alot of money, being that there are more scrubs, then real FG experts. And you know it. Little kids brings more money.
Kiddy fucking game I rather play shaq fu then super shit bros. Oh shit, my bad how can I compare shaqfu & smash, being the fact that shaq fu is a FG,and smash isnt a FG. oops!!
never played melee much, but from what i’ve played of brawl it seems to have a much more traditional ground game than a lot of other titles out there. sure you don’t have a ton of moves at your disposal, but you do have the classic structure of blocking > attacking > throwing > blocking, and all options seem to be pretty evenly balanced
once you get used to how the game feels, it’s not hard to apply standard footsie concepts to the game and outsmart people on the ground
i enjoy the game, and i think there’s a good deal of strategy and improvisation going on in it. it’s a lot less mindless and pattern-based than some other games i won’t mention
from what i’ve read over at smashboards though, that community is a collective bunch of retards though. finding an intelligent post is almost a lost cause
Ya, I always thought of it as a fighter on training wheels. But thats just me.
Smashboards has a ton of new members due to Brawl’s popularity, so it’s not really fair to just assume that everyone there is retarded, even though yeah, the majority of the posts there are depressingly idiotic.
In any case, yeah, once again I’m not sure where you’re getting all of this “smash bros isn’t a fighting game/isn’t a deep fighting game” stuff. As far as I’m concerned it’s just a “different” fighting game, not necessarily worse or better. I’m not going to get into the argument of whether it’s a fighting game because those just get ugly fast, but seriously, what exactly makes Smash Bros so inferior to other fighting games? Once again I’m talking about Melee here, not Brawl or 64, but whatever.
What you mean what makes smash infeior to other fighting games? smash is not even in the same category as FGs like guilty gear, marvel, street figher, tekken, soul calibur, and so on.
btw, melee is in the same category as brawl( There both shit and party games)
You didn’t answer my question. SSBM is undeniably an extremely successful tournament fighter, so I just want to know why you think it’s inferior to other fighters. And please don’t say it’s not a fighter, because in tournament play it is played very, very similarly to one.
I mean, what do you want to hear? It wasn;t designed for high level play, I’ll play a game that was, over Smahs.
You want to hear what I think? It’s pace is awkward, it’s too jumpy and I don;t like the tech/run for safety game it turns into. I hate the % system, the characters seem really limited to what is usable and effective, I like the characters in their respective game but not in a fighter, I hate the community that plays it, there is no arcade that has it and I dont like playing games on console durring my free time.
If Smash wasn’t a nintendo game, no one would fucking play it.
I love random tripping. =/.
Although I’ll still play it competitively because there’s just so much comp for it.
