Skullgirls~

ill withdraw my comment on the specs being an issue, apparently the laptop the game ran on isnt that great and this was with an engine that probably isnt 100% optimized yet.

this is one of the most desired training mode features i could want, especially if you can set a % chance for each prerecording to happen (up to 5-8 or something). it also helps with learning to react to certain situations that arent “real” mixups (say someone doing a predictable move along with some sort of feint) and developing options to beat both.

I don’t believe in that mantra either, I was just avoiding bringing that up due to not finding it relevant for this thread. That said, the way I had it in my mind was that the user would make a one-time purchase for an account or whatever and use that account to access the online mode for no further charge for how ever long the service would be up. Assuming that is a workable solution, the main thing a pirate could do is host a private server. Considering that we’re talking about the same community that has trouble funding GGPO servers, I don’t see a private server competing with the official one.

As for people who’d download the game illegitimately for the training mode, well they’ll either have to buy the game anyway for online play or they’ll have to make do with offline (lol). I’m also tempted to point out the inconsistency of considering not putting a title on one “cracked” platform yet have no problems with releasing that same title on two other cracked platforms with the target audience definitely processing knowledge of how to break all three. I mean, the FGC makes their own joysticks for christ’s sake.

Edit:

Oh dear geezus. Please no curse. Please no curse. Please no curse. Please no curse…

One of the major hurdles for a PC release is the thousands of different PC configurations. We use very different features of graphics hardware from regular 3D games - SG doesn’t require a particularly amazing graphics card in terms of rendering speed, nor does it ask for tons of video memory, but it does create a lot of new textures for the card each frame…which a lot of PCs can’t handle because of low bus bandwidth to the card. This simply isn’t a thing most software does except when loading levels, so graphics cards have been optimized in favor of other features - having lots of dynamically changing 3D models, for example.
Fixing these issues for computers that can’t compete isn’t as simple as having options for “low detail” or “low res models”, because there’s no such thing in SG. Whereas on consoles once it runs, it runs for everyone.

Edit: Yes, no curse. (^.^)

LOL, I love that you answered this so specifically. While curse is a cool mechanic, it’s also total bullshit for gameplay.

curse could be implemented in a cool way, its just not and arcsys has some sort of hardon for making him obscenely powerful with it and mediocre without it instead of closing that gap.

though its pretty hard to implement right so avoiding it (like custom combos) isnt a bad idea.

I am gonna go ahead and be the anti-Steam guy here for a second. Flame suit, equip!

If implementing cross-platform play with GFWL isn’t an issue, then I would suggest going that way if we ever see a PC release. The PC version of BBCT has this, too bad it was released when BBCS was already out on consoles and no one knows that it exists.

Why do they have to be separate? Street Fighter 4 was purchasable and playable on Steam and still utilized GFWL.
From a pure marketing standpoint, I can’t see how Steam wouldn’t be the best possible option in regards to PC gaming.

Interesting essay on character design that I think a lot of the gaming community would benefit from reading and thinking about. I really don’t think gamers should have to settle for an industry where 90% of the leads hail from the indistinguishable male thickneck aesthetic (Master Chief, Bald Kratos, Burly Belmont, Fenix, etc.).

I’m way excited for this game!

What. . . . Kratos is a masterpiece of character design. Just because God of War 2 and 3 sucked doesn’t change how perfect the first game was.

Steam distribution is one thing. Then there’s using Steamworks for achievements and matchmaking which obviously wouldn’t be compatible with the GFWL cross-play. Only negative I see here is that since your GFWL account can also double as an XBL account (its all tied together) you can’t be signed in on your PC and Xbox Live simultaneously, I think.

The other negative is that GFWL is garbage.

Funny you mention this, but the new GFWL currently has better security than Steamworks (for piracy ‘prevention’, for whatever that’s worth). The overall package isn’t anywhere near as nice for obvious reasons (Most if not all of them have anything to do with playing games) but if we are talking about piracy, it is easier to play pirated Steam games online than GFWL 3.0 games with SSA keys (Hello Hamachi). If GFWL isn’t an option for whatever reason, you can also do Steamworks and do some PSN cross-play (Portal 2 does this). Either way you go, as long as there’s cross-play you can’t really go wrong.

or both for crossplay would be sick

i mean Blazblue on PC is crossplay on xbox so do both!

You can’t do both, GFWL is required for Xbox crossplay and MS is not going to let you crossplay with the PS3 as well. You can get PS3 crossplay via Steam but I doubt Valve could get MS to let them crossplay with Xbox (they would have done it already).

ears perk up

No word on how Valentine or Parasoul will play yet, right?

:stuck_out_tongue:

Last pic doesn’t work.

i wouldnt be surprised if valentine ends being a rushdown char
for parasoul im not really sure, she can, perhaps, be something in the middle, or maybe a zoner who use her soldiers in the fight

so if that animation checklist applies to valentine we know she has an airdash

It doesn’t, sorry! It’s for the current character in production, which will be the next one demonstrated.

You know, with that blog post about variety in character design I’m kinda wondering if it has ever been brought up that nearly the entire main cast of characters and even the additional characters I’ve seen on the livejournal are white? I say “nearly the entire cast” only because Squiggly is blue and Painwheel may be Asian, though you can’t tell with the mask.
