This is ridiculous. There’s going to continue to be melee tournaments either way and they’ve got a whole new game coming out. In contrast, I wish there was some new SG stuff I could buy, like DLC characters. That’s why I’d pulling for SG so hard, that and the fact that I think its a spectacular game.

you don’t know a thing about skullgirls, considering skullgirls is not even close to a ground based game, has shit tons of aerial combat and footsies, and has some characters that are extremely projectile focused.

three of those are just for their assists.

you can literally recreate marvel 2 teams in SG and use them exactly the same as you would in marvel 2.
Example:
Peacock (cable), Filia (magneto), Painwheel (sentinel)
The breadsticks and soup and salad are on that next-level shit. Unlimited soup/salad/breadsticks is like 7 or 8 bucks so that’s more money to spend on your favorite adult beverage of choice. A few days before christmas last year I went with a friend who had a gift card and we both got that + hella beer. Amazing times.

To be quite honest, that guy has the right idea, but the wrong idea at the same time.
First off, Melee has already had the spotlight, if only just once. Skullgirls (LET’S BE REALLY HONEST) may only have this one shot. It’s like telling Melee players in 2007 that they can’t have their game at EVO, with Brawl right around the corner to ruin their reputation.
Melee has a community that is devoted, will not fade away and has solidified itself worldwide having even a major that was organized entirely by the comunity as well as every tournament. They’re already a force to be reckoned with. So to be honest, when the community is large and devoted enough to make their own tournaments and major, it’s more solid than most games out there. Some Smash players want EVO to “strengthen” their community, which is larger than Capcom and Namco fans combined, while others want respect from the FGC, which they have had with the majority since forever.
The reality is that the game is 12 years old and is still going strong. Skullgirls is one year old and has seen more fucked up shit and rejection than Melee has in 12 years.
Didn’t Skullgirls, prepatch, broken as it was, slow as all fuck, with no pot bonus get 200+ entrants when it was 3 months after release last year?

Those group of characters allowed for a myriad of different combinations and playstyles. MSP is drastically different from MSS. I think the biggest thing that people are starting to get tired of the SG community is the perception of the fanbase. You guys really do come of as “weaboos” after that stream last night. I skimmed through and it seems people were paying for voicemails from women. Just seemed strange. I think melee is still going to win but if it doesn’t I hope to god that you guys get at least 100 or you will never grow at all. I haven’t seen double digits for a SG tourney in the MW in months so I hope ya’ll can at least make it to some shit you fought so hard for. No hard feelings but I really don’t want you guys to win tho lol
with a 1000 dollar pot bonus it should break 100 but I see some guy who isn’t invested in the game at all practicing for a few weeks and winning it (chris g, jwong type of player)

You’re crazy sir. That shit would play nothing like that team MVC2. Just say you like your game and stop trying to paint it as something its not, which is a successor to MVC2. None of those characters other than Painwheel plays close to what you are trying to compare them too.

That’s more than you can say for any Skullgirls characters at all.
Cheap jabs aside, there are way more viable combinations and permutations in MVC2 team building than anyone gives credit, and way more than there are available in Skullgirls unless we count the fact that you can ‘not pick three characters and pick less instead’ which isn’t really a great way to add variety to a game. lol.

I see nothing on the level of MVC2 Aerial combat or footsies. In fact, in Skullgirls, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the screen scroll up once. There’s so much gravity even when you SJ you can’t get away from the ground for too long. And you want to compare this game to MVC2? Don’t make me laugh. There’s NO mobility, and the game’s piss poor excuse for ‘aerial combat’ equates to boxdashing all day. No thanks, I’d rather play MVC3.

I agree, some areas suffer for the community. the mid west ain’t the best, nor is the north west (my area) and the south east. But pretty much every where else has double digit tourneys, and it draws more people for a side tourney then most other games at a lot of events.
We only appear as weaboos because its what ignorant people choose to write us off as. A lot of people here just prefer games that have a more classic feel to it, that don’t have some kind of weird come back mechanic and that kind of stuff (please note I don’t look down on people who do like newer games, they can be fun in their own right and I understand why people play them). A lot of us don’t even LIKE anime.
