I haven’t seen all of it yet, but the women there were voice actors so I really don’t see a problem with them giving out clips (I think it was supposed to be an answering machine message with a character’s voice). Also the voice actors did a lot of anime dubs, which explains some more of the anime references.
Plus let’s be honest, some women wanted voicemails from them too.

I’ve had an account for years, this is a new one. People need to stop trying to validate their biases due to join date since I’ve been on SRK previously for 5 or so years. Unlike most of you sirs I actually go out and compete in my respective games and I see that SG is nowhere to be found ever. I’m just saying if you guys make it in, make it in. I want to see like a 300 man tourney with the type of support that is going into. I fucking hate the feel and look of the game but if its going to be there I don’t wish anything ill unto a burgeoning scene. I will speak my mind on whence I please since this is the internet and there is no filter on my thoughts
Kyle. Why are you here? How does this affect you as a person? Why are you so invested in downing a game that you care nothing about? No one is forcing you to play the game, or to even watch Skullgirls at EVO. Turn off the stream and do something else while it’s on.
The fact that you’re getting so emotionally invested in something you don’t even like is… well, frankly… it’s sad and obsessive. We like Skullgirls, and you’re not doing anything to convince us otherwise. I already damn well know there’s no changing your mind about anything, but I’m just saying that you’re causing yourself unnecessary stress over something that really amounts to nothing in the end.
And to everyone else: just don’t bother responding to him at this point. I’ve known this guy for years and he’s one of the most hardheaded people I’ve ever met. Once he’s convinced he’s right about something, he won’t stop until he’s bored of the discussion or someone forcibly removes him from it. Just put him on your ignore list and move on.
Melee playing the pity card should be completely ignored, obviously. At its peak, it was probably the biggest fighting game in America. ~12 years later, it’s probably stronger than most new games, like Soul Calibur, KOF and MK9. It’s been at MLG, and, yes, Evo, before. How tragic.
The Smash community is so strong, so un-needy, that it has high level tournaments with international competition for Smash 64 and Project M, which is not just an unofficial hack, but an incomplete demo of that unofficial hack.
All the Melee guys need to say is “our game is awesome, our community is great, we deserve this.” And they’d be right about that! But their “we need this” and “we have so much to prove” rhetoric is just meaningless noise; dismiss it
Its a common misconception to pretend that only men watch anime yes. Hell, there is an abundant of SG cosplayers at cons. They don’t have to be a fighting game player to enjoy SG. SG originally was all about the Art before

Too bad. Honestly the problem with this “Lol Donatation Money will exceed entries in EVO” argument is that EVO uses this donation drive as a measuring stick. The whole point of this donation drive is to see if people can actually put their money where their mouth is. The EVO organizer don’t have any other way to gauge interest their games . If a non-SG can’t win the donation drive, then they honestly just have to hold that shit.
You can stomp your feet all you want, but your opinion means nothing more than a grain of salt. Nobody goes to the Smash Boards to talk shit, and believe that Smash doesn’t deserve to be at EVO. It doesn’t matter if they can support their game to be at it . Going here to do that is just as dumb, but you are free to do whatever you want. Skullgirl/Smash could have the shittest EVO ever by specator standards, but they deserve it if they EARNED the spot. What the game looks like at a high level doesn’t truly matter if the game earned the spot for it.
Spectators are just going to have hold that shit in the long run if the game they want isn’t at EVO. It’s that simple.

Unlike most people, you have the disposable income to go to many tournaments. I’ve been to three SG tournaments myself, but only because they were in my state and I and extremely underemployed (I’m a part time professor at a technical college; that should tell you something). But my wife and I are saving every penny we can to go to EVO. EVO is not like every other fighting game tournament, and I’m sure the Melee community knows this (otherwise they would take their strong worldwide community with community ran tournaments and a major and go home with a smile on their faces).
I will be going to EVO for Skullgirls. Not UMvC3, not MK9, not KOF XIII (games I used to play). I’m going to EVO with the sole intention of participating in Skullgirls. That means I’m getting on a fucking plane from Bumfuck, South Carolina to go to Las Vegas for the first time in my life, so I can participate for the first time in my life and meet up with the wonderful people and friends I’ve made in this forum and online for the past year.

To add to this genius discussion: Without having played either game seriously, just going by what I observed, I was under the impression that SG is way closer to GG than MvC2 (for what that comment is worth)

There are striking similarities between both, it depends on who/how you play.
I play with a few MVC2 vets and the skill transfer is seemless, they pretty much just play their mvc2 teams and do quite well.
When you are playing a three person team especially, obviously.
