Everyone needs to stop taking things so seriously, Skullgirls and Melee are both great games! i’ve probably played more melee than any other fighting game to be honest. To put things into perspective, that tweet would be just as funny if it was directed to any other game - i mean, “My Little Pony/SFxT/Skullgirls/UMvC3/TTT2, a real fighting game is coming for you!”
why do people need to make all this drama?
Drama is what makes life interesting i guess? I mean if the world was nice to each for all eternity then thats just another form of hell

Sigh… this anticipation is killing me… So many swaying emotions in me…
I played quite many hours of SSB (the original one) and I must say it is a VERY fun game, and for that alone it earns my respect. If what I hear about Melee is true, it definitely has enough in it to be a fully competitive game. As it includes “fighting” I believe it to be a real fighting game (alas a very unorthodox one) and I see absolutely no reason to say, it is not one.
But still… I truly love Skullgirls for what it has the potential to become and I believe it has a LOT more to gain from an Evo spot than Smash does. If Smash wins it will just leave me… upset. 
Even unreasonably so.

It’s not the case that the game has potential to be competitive, it has been competitive for several years. Most people don’t realize how technical the game is or know about the various tricks they have to improve their movement and spacing that require lots of practice. The game can also be really exciting to watch as well.
Dont know if you peeps know but Mike Z or anyone that was at Salty Cupcakes has acces to the Skullgirls Twitter account so Yeah… It was not Mike Z or anyone attending the event that posted that. We had no control over it at Salty Cupcakes.
I totally wish I still had my gamecube though, Smash is fuckin awesome when you play At Hyrule castle, with damage all the way up, 20 lifes, instant death, and Bomb-oms and red shells! Its so cool when you get stuck on terrain and then slide out and fly the fuck out! Fun times…
If you make too big a deal of this minor thing, you’ll just be feeding negative stereotypes about Smash players… o_O

I thought that since Melee is quite an old game it goes without saying that it already is a fully competitive game. People had lots of time to find how it works and probably found their own techs like our “double snaps” and “plinking”. Probably some stuff I can’t even dream of. 
As for watching… I have great time watching Maximilian play.

But here, I’ll not be a dick about it:
This game does not deserve to be in Evo because it doesn’t have a real community. If it had a real community, there would have been more than 2 tournaments in it for 2012. At least let a good dead game that will get international entrants and actually have a scene like GG or BB have the spot, rather than the Merzbow of fighting games. Hell, let Melee have the spot, because at least people want to see that.
The fact that this game only has this much traction after every molecule about it was forced down our throats on a ‘community’ (don’t make me laugh) hype train is a testament to it’s quality and undeserving nature. It’s own players and developers abandoned it after seeing it was a movie.
The fact that people compare this game to MVC2 blows my mind, and it’s an insult from people who have clearly never delved into that game seriously.
You can buy your hipster American doujin game into Evo, but it won’t make it good, and it won’t make it have entrants. Why does a game that can’t get ~20 entrants at a major deserve to be on the main stage at Evo?
Smash is competing vs SG, takes a jab regarding something the community has heard forever, yet players still cry about it? That’s pretty soft. If official smash boards twitter said something like “SG players only play with female characters”, I doubt you would see it shot down like that.
Dont like it? Donate enough to get a “good” fg into the 8th spot. Otherwise, stfu and hold that shit.
SSB and Melee gave me and my friends years of fun. Had no idea it was competitive (like tournaments and a ruleset) until like 09?
Funny the fighting game SRK tries to ignore is being challenged by the game a lot of posters outside this section want to just lay down and die already.
They keep extending our expected life lol. People already saying SG will die if we don’t win this EVO slot like our scene is that fragile.
Who’s making a big deal? I don’t think it was a big deal, but I completely understand why people in my community would take offense to it after it’s a stigma which has stunted our growth in a lot of ways. Turning a negative comment into positive reinforcement is not making a big deal out of a minor thing. You reep what you sow.
The people who can reason and be reasoned with already understand that. The people who don’t, won’t.
It’s not like I’m going around saying “HEY GUYS LOOK WHAT SKULLGIRLS SAID” if that’s what you mean. No worries there. But they’ve certainly given the smash communities outside of melee a reason donate.
Yeah Skullgirls for 8th slot! Gonna be so awesome to finally go to EVO! So how many of you dudes gonna make it even if we dont get 8th game we still gotts to make some noise up in that place!
