I say this as a former competitive Smash player… I have a general distaste for Smash players, but I’ve seen more gorgeous women playing Smash than any other game.
That said, anyone who feels like Skullgirls taints the FGC’s image needs to get over it. The world at large already sees the FGC as being full of sexist, vulgar man-children anyway, so this is nothing new.
Anyway, I really wish my payment for a job I did would come in so I can finally toss some scratch their way.
You can only argue against the “it’s not a real fighting game” issue so many times before it just gets incredibly annoying.
That said, I haven’t really been following that thread, so I have no idea what those guys are saying over there. I’m not sure what the issue about using VAs is? Either way, I’m personally hoping to play Melee at EVO, but I like Skullgirls, too.
They also made a tweet to MrWizard asking if both of them could get a spot, so I don’t think there’s ill will. I personally consider Smash a ‘real’ fighter, but there’s always going to be some people that don’t because it’s different.
Did you watch our podcast? The one where we talked about how awesome it was that another grassroots community is taking a stand to be at EVO and rallying together? The one where we were discussing having Skullgirls at arguably our second most prominent major, Genesis 3? Of course there are trolls; When you see an official post on Smashboards calling Skullgirls Weeaboo virgins, come talk to me.
Do people really not see the problem with that tweet? It didn’t offend me, but I can easily see how it could offend others. There’s a ton of people in the FGC who still legitimately try to argue Smash as not a real fighting game, and detecting whether the Skullgirls tweet was from one of those people isn’t exactly easy.
Imagine if during the election when Romney started getting more attention he tweeted “look out Barack, a real niggas comin for you”
Smashers are overreacting, but, when you hear people who don’t play smash talking about what an annoying argument it is, imagine how tiring it is from Melee’s perspective.
Anyway, nice drive last night, I’ve been lurking in here for the last week or so. I anticipated you guys would overtake smash, but not by the margin that you did.
I’m not talking about the Podcast itself -_- it was the general egotistic reaction. Did you watch the actual stream? Did they even legitimately insult smash that you could tell was not serious that crossed any lines? The most “disrespectful” thing was the VA girls saying “Mike Ross is a fraud” with good humor involved. There was even shoutouts on Melee there respecting you guys. lol i check out Smashboards recently because they have a good reputation and were chill on all of this but since the Drive started i see this “respect”
This was just one of the “respectful” posts i remembered. If your gonna judge a community on a single twitter post (while ignoring the followup tweet explaining it was not meant to be taken seriously) Thats getting pathetic. Hope we can move on from this bs and accept the fact that troll posts do not equal the community
I think the difference is that every community has bitchy members. But it was your official team throwing the twitter punches. But I shouldn’t even be doing this…I don’t wan that tweet to be a big deal anyway >.<
"Edit: And if you just scroll down to the bottom of that page you’ll see a smasher hating on those kinds of comments.
Guys, calm your collective tits. The tweet was in poor taste, whether or not it was a joke. It also doesn’t represent most of the people here, it’s just a little irritating it came out of an official channel. By now, we should all be able to move past this, stop finding offense in the jabs of each other and realize we are the two most dedicated groups vying to get into EVO right now and there’s gonna be some drama(tized competition). Hell if we didn’t love boobs so much, we could have put this money to the greatest EVO side tournaments ever held (like a mini-EVO, across the street from EVO where we drink out of brandy snifters and replica eiffel towers.)
Except it was never meant to be “twitter punches” to begin with. Melee read waaaay to deep in it and assumed we are not being “mutually respectful” and ignored the followup tweet(For further clarification it was no serious statement and was respectful towards melee). You would think a 10+ year community would remain their composure on this and tell the difference between good nature humor for a friendly competition for breast cancer (you can tell thats what it all was on the stream and take NOTHING seriously) and “popping off someone”
Yes annoyed that on that twitter post, but equally as annoyed on the reactions
So, when’s the impending “Put Sagat in Melee” spam. Oh, and really both sides have some crazy fuckers behind them. It’s just the job of the sane of us to clear things up.
I’m not judging your community: You in particular seem like a cool guy with a good head on his shoulders. But here is the difference: The post you presented just now was a knee jerk reaction to the OFFICIAL Skullgirls page writing us off as not a fighting game. Whether in joke form or not, it’s something we’ve put up with for a long time, and overall with both communities trying to bury that particular hatchet, it’s inevitable that it would piss some people off. Up until that point, where that tweet was made, we had been extremely respectful in every way, and on an OFFICIAL level still are. To expect us to be like “haha those guys are officially ragging on us for a legitimate problem we’ve faced for nearly a decade but we aren’t gonna strike back cause it’s a joke” isn’t gonna fly.
That being said, I feel no ill will. But you’ve certainly given us a tool to use against you. Propaganda at it’s finest.
And I watched some of the podcast, the worst thing I saw was “let’s smash smash” which was perfectly tame. Still not the point though.
Ok, feel free to take advantage of a misunderstanding to rally the troops. This is all for breast cancer anyway, btw i don’t have any malice towards melee either, however disappointed at the reactions to the twitter post. Made it sound like SG insulted their mother or made a 9/11 joke to someone else expense
