Hopefully its not that much… I really want Skullgirls in man, we haven’t gotten a chance to shine like Melee has yet
Melee has been around a lot longer though, what do you expect? You don’t just shine over-night, lol. Do you need it to be main stage to support it? If yes, there’s really no hope for this community. =/
Or they just really want their game in Evo too? When it comes down to paying your way in, I don’t rly see how anybody can complain when one party has access to more funds. That’s how it goes.
Melee didn’t die when it was dropped from MLG/EVO and replaced with Brawl. Melee continued to strive because of the community.
As long as there are players breathing live into the game. As long as players gather together under one roof to create some semblance of community, SG will never truly be dead. Even if SG doesn’t get into EVO, the game will never truly die unless the players abandon it.
Melee stayed the course for 12 years, even after Brawl’s surge in popularity. We were stubborn. Ya’ll should be too.

Yes, it’s for nothing. Breast cancer research is one of the most funded fields in oncology. Even then, even if they found like fucking turmeric cured cancer, even if it cures cancer, if pharmaceutical companies can’t benefit from it because it’s a natural cure then they’ll synthesize a similar compound, patent it, then feed it to patients for profit. BEING FUCKING HONEST HERE.

This would only be true if all the insane amount of money ONE person is putting toward Melee gauges interest in Melee. Which it doesn’t. Amount of money just comes down to which community has the most disposable income. And I don’t.

Both games are going to be in EVO anyways. The whole deal is getting the pot bonus, which is less than 1/3 of the Melee group’s proposed donation. As opposed to paying the money a grad student can use to pay his or her bills for two months (which is likely where the money will end up), donate some if you want, then take some money for a pot bonus. This competition was bound to end this way.
Now, Melee has an established community and it was made by a major corporation. We’re talking about Skullgirls, a game coming from a struggling group of people that care about the community, and this boost would help immensely. But if you want your money to go to an already-established, 10-year-old game made by a major corporation, sure.
Would be nice to have people play the game because it will be in EVO.
15 days left. It’s a little early to start throwing in the towel.
Events like that one should just serve as a reminder of exactly what community SG’ers are up against.
Hi guys, my name is prog, I’m a SSBM commentator. I own and love SG (amazing soundtrack, Valentine is my girl), and I tell everyone who has an interest in 2D fighters to take a look at it because it does so many things right, especially the comprehensive tutorial mode.
Anyway, 20 years ago, I lost my grandmother to breast cancer 2 days after getting an SNES. I run every year to fight it. The fact that the EVO staff are donating these funds to fight breast cancer…yeah, its stellar from them. At the same time, I always say that SSBM is the reason why I have a job right now. I had an interest in video editing because of it, and now I’m in television production.
I can’t donate money until 6 year old me understands that my grandmother is gone forever. I can’t repay the family I’ve made in this community. But this is something I can do to help the community that’s given me so much and continue to take swipes at something that has taken a life that I never got the chance to truly hold dear.
I guess I did have my hopes too high…I understand what the cause is for, but I was hoping that I could of finally been recognized for something…I was going to train long and hard, my own road to Evo…but whats the fucking point now…
I know I’m 18, and I’m still really young…but I just wanted to taste importance for once…SkullGirls at Evo could of finally done that…
Nobody cared for my drawings in life…nobody cared for my writing in life…I thought I could finally be remembered and known for something…
And I"m not looking for pity or anything…I’m just saying this from the bottom of my heart, I was so hopeful that SkullGirls could make it…
Edit: At least…the money is going to a good cause…I’m at least happy for that…
1.) If you think donating to charity, is for nothing, even if its one of the most funded fields, then lol im sorry.
Donating to charity for me, is never just for nothing.
2.) You guys have 15 days left. This defeatist attitude is not helping out at all. maybe its because im being more optimistic and realistic at the moment, but i mean come on. Dont act like it’s over until its over.
3.) Where does it say that both games will be in EVO? Last I recall, MLP is DQ’d for its own reasons, so only 2nd place (or 1st place if MLP is overtaken) will get into EVO. Nothing more.
WE’VE ALL LOST FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO CANCER.
So for that matter, why not donate to any game? If donating to breast cancer research really was the goal of that charade, why donate now? Why donate through the link? Why not donate to the American Cancer Society?
There’s no reason both games can’t have side tournaments.
Because people want to donate to a good cause while picking the game that will entertain them the most.
People should donate because it’s a good cause. If you don’t have a preference, pick any random game, however, if you do, pick what you choose.
This makes a lot of sense, but you can’t win against political correctness.
Seems the ST community comprised of older people understand how hard it is to just raise 3000$ prize money for their own Tournament of Legends, hence they didn’t bother donating much to the Evo fund. Same for 3S community.
I’m so pathetic…I’m crying so hard…my heart hurts…
I understand there is 15 days left, but I heavily doubt we can somehow magically get 4000+…
My mind is just so full of doubt…
Once again, I know what this cause is truly for…
but I had so many dreams…I thought I could achieve both at once…
We can still hold out if we spread the word of the SG donation in various ways. There is still roughly 15 days left(Honestly Surprised Melee played there hand this early in the game, kind of hurt any element of surprise they would have had when we would be cocky about the lead). Melee has to deal with there split community of Brawl Purists that hurts Melee while at the same time apparently Bronies apparently are helping out. Ebay Style Snipe Bidding is also a last resort thing
lets not lose our heads people

It’s really not about the money guys lol. Before SG caught up, we were all content sitting in second and had no intention of trying to catch up to MLP. Even now, we’re only truly fighting for 2nd (only under MLP) so we can get the spot.
Play something else/train for side tourney. Or forget about it, it’s just a hobby. Pick up something else. And everybody needs to stop whining about being behind Melee. It’s a competition, it happens. Either keep going or accept it and prepare all the main stage event hype for a hype side tourney.
My preference is “I don’t want to see Smash Bros in EVO”, but I don’t have the pocket money to outbid some rich kid.
Thus, my struggling game that could really use some exposure in the community is outshined by a game that a large amount of the community despise.
Totes fair.
There is nothing else I can play…I suck at everything else…SkullGirls was a game I was actually FINALLY getting good at…
I almost gave up the fighting game community before SkullGirls came along…I just have this horrible mindset of wanting to be good at something and people finally noticing that I fucking exist…
Melee isn’t as widely despised as you think.
Brawl, maybe, but Melee is much better received.
Dang some people are getting a little crazy here.
Well, that’s life. Get used to it, I suppose. Or, support side tourney? SG can still be there and you can still have your moment.
