Skullgirls Gameplay Discussion Thanks For Playing

i just did a cross up J.hp with nazi on cerebella, it was pretty cool.

I’m so glad we got the Cable, Sentinel, and Magneto colors, 'cause that means I can basically play my MVC2 team in Skullgirls. Even in the same order!

It’s still very tough to get in on a peacock with hornet bomber for me. Can’t really punish the assist from a distance because I get beamed and when I get hit by her I have to go through her 50-50 vortex…Bleh

Right now I am running ValCera, trying to figure out what to do with this team.

what assists you using?

Valentine QCF+HK
Cerabella QCF+HP

right away i am just going to throw out what I tell pretty much every bella:

use the copter. it is especially useful in that match up because it allows you to really lock your oppenent down, and its great for a nice damage boost in your combos. It really depends on what your bigger problem is: dealing with the assist, or dealing with the zoning.

playing against cock/double generally boils down to two different gameplans: just get the first hit on peacock and reset her till death or snap in double and keep in pressure from the initial come in. nurse with the copter behind her has both really good resets AND in coming mixup, so if you are in a long set you have the ability to switch up these play style in an effective way to keep your oppenent on your toes.

if you use copter, you can start using the assist a bit outside mid range to start controlling space against cock.

double has less invincibilty on her assist now, so learn to bait it and punish it. Bella can use her powerful armor moves to eat away at it, and valentine can use her excellent mobility to avoid it. in the corner, you can bait it and mixup cock at the same time, and if you are lucky, score a double snap infinite on the assist.

life is currency in this match up, especially now that cock gains less meter, so you can sacrfice some of your life to do damage to the double assist on block I feel like, since eventually it will cause your oppenent to respect their assist calls a bit more. Its totally cool losing like two thirds of your health in order to deal significant damage to the assist, since its will be easier to kill on a snap then and then cock is pretty useless on her own against two characters, particularly a copter team.

yea you defo want to use copter against peacock. unless they are shit.

also can somebody please test something for me with fortune? specifically setting her assist to DF+HP (to get zoom), remove her head and then alpha counter into her and just see whether she is in a neutral state when she comes in and whether she can come in and block/throw/low/whatever.

maybe test it with a multihit attack such as copter and also with say a chain as well, thanks.

Random note: Diamond Deflector works against the initial laser of Argus Agony. This will never happen in a real match (I’d love to be proven wrong), but it’s fun to test in training mode.

Less-random note: Diamond Drop works if you hit the two buttons a frame (or two?) apart - unless you were previously blocking long enough to have charged Tumbling Run and hit LK before LP. Then you get LK tumbling run, and your opponent gets a free combo. (At least, that’s what keeps happening to me in online matches.) Maybe I need to start option-selecting for that. Maybe I just need to make sure to always hit LP first if I’ve been blocking. Lock’n’Load gets canceled into Diamond Drop during startup, no problem. It’s just Tumbling Run that’s problematic.

Random question: Does nobody wavedash in SG because of <some reason>, because everybody forgets about it, or do people do it and I just miss it?
I didn’t even know it was possible and found it by accident while wiggling the stick; now I’m confused why I don’t see people utilize it.

I dunno if Gutalex does it on purpose but if we’re talking about the same thing, I think he does it.

I have never seen a need to do it for Cerebella.

I’m talking about Dash-Crouch-Dash-Crouch-etc
Filia traverses the entire screen in a heartbeat

I cannot think of a good Valentine.

And my new team needs one.

Isn’t fillia’s wave dash the only useful/usable one? val has morigan’s dash, peacock and pw have very slow startup to theirs, bella has a beeter option in command run, fortune is better to just run, and double straight up can’t wave dash.

Disco shark used wavedash with his filia a few times against partial artist in their thirty minute set in the video thread.
But generall speaking there are better ways to move around for most characters or they are not capable of wave dashing (crouch canceling their dash) painwheel cant crouch cancel her dash and neither can bella and parasoul and double…

I have no idea how Filia or Valentine are played, but they’re fun.

That might be
I only play Filia atm :looney:

Anybody come up with a reliable method to reversal DP in this game? I’ve tried to practice my reversal timing in training modo but it still aint consistent. Do yall just mash it out or just input it once towards the end of blockstun.

I have been using the dash cancelling a lot lately as a form of footsies, dash forward xx dash back, punish the whiff light attack they throw out for free. real good stuff.

I piano, ST style. That way you get 6 chances to get your reversal, 3 off the button press and 3 off the negative edge. In most situations, it doesn’t really matter what strength of the button comes out, as long as something does. For Double, I piano between mk~lk, so I only get four, but that is plenty for the lenient 4 frame reversal window.

Yay for TOD 1v1/2v2 combos that work on everyone.

For 3 meters, that’s fine. :^)
