If you have confidence, you will win even before you start the match. That Juri is just more experienced. Your time will come when you surpass that player.
Why so many CW’s cuz I don’t think you needed them at all. And you didn’t hit confirm your rekkas. It looked like Adon was just pressing buttons. His DP is extremely fast, and you were getting caught on reversals. You played much better in the 2nd game for sure though.
I’ve read its an even matchup, but IDK about that. I think if you used more crouching :hp:/:mk:, maybe they’d go under his ST. :hk:. It’s a 2 hitter also, so obviously we can’t focus it.
Yeah too much CW, usually I’ve got better spacing at least. And his reversal is strong for sure, it even seems to beat flamekick so yeah janken are kinda rigged haha.
About footsies I went into training room and… It’s pretty hard to deal with st.HK. You can’t counter poke him with cr.MK because it doesn’t reach as far as his HK. cr.HP won’t do either since I feel it’s just too slow to whiff punish (and you never know when he’s gonna JK). So you’re left with st.HP which is good but you really need to be sharp on reactions. LP xx rekkas is probably the best bet but spacing is tight, I need to practice it.
You can just straight up whiff punish the st.hk with rekka if you watch for it. I sit just outside and use mp rekka to hit confirm. Also you gota move in and out and punish the recovery of the Jaguar kicks with cr.lp xx rekka, as soon as he lands he’s punishable.
Adon’s tough but I think it’s even. Personally I play it exactly like the Fei mirror match, basically make everything footsie based and wait for the other guy to fuck up. The usual neutral jumps to keep JK’s honest, cr.fierce. Late MK flame kick does beat his dp, it’s just who ever activates later.
Bit to much CW, not sure why you were trying to CW on his wake up? I’ve found our j.mp quite handy against Adon.
Just for getting closer, since he wasn’t punishing it. But spacing was terrible. Thanks for the tips anyway.
I asked Justin Wong for a bit of advice on the Adon MU a while back and his advice was to “not play footsies, since his HK blows up pretty much all your buttons” I agree, and I try and do what Highland said with the MP Rekka. I’ve found that the LP Rekka doesn’t cut it sadly. If you’re standing a little outside HK range you can use LP to tag him and buffer into Rekka <- this is not as easy as it sounds.
As far as dealing with JK I choose to do one of two things: cr.MK to go under them or mk FK, both on reaction. Really crappy options However if you can get a read on how the opponent likes to use their JK’s you can reaction U1 and it’ll go into full animation. U1 like that is really good for when they use the HK JK since they go straight up and there isn’t a chance for them go over you if they spaced it poorly (as dumb as that sounds lol)
RJ is 5F and so is our FK so yeah, whoever did it first will lose to the others DP.
This is a really tough match vs experienced Adon players
Ok thanks. We really need to put this stuff in the first post or somewhere.
Let’s talk about it. Cammy. The matchup is even, but how to put it in our favor.
I think it’s slighty in Fei Long’s favor because technically, she can’t do anything without a knockdown. Being solid usually does the trick for me. However here are some random tips :
- Always anti-air, she can’t do anything without being close to you. Stay around your MP/HP rekkas range to zone her.
- If knocked down, try not to quickstand. It’ll throw off most of average players. Or you can quickstand and focus dash if the strike isn’t too low. You can autocorrect a FK if you know she’s going for the LK cross-up.
- Learn when a strike is blockstring. If it hits too high, it’s probably not, so make her respect your FK once in a while.
- Against a good player don’t pick U2. Seriously, he won’t get caught. You’re just gonna mindfuck yourself and give him the upper hand at some point.
- Watch out for random spiral arrows. They like to do it when they have no solution left.
- She can punish bad rekkas with st.LP, cr.MK xx Spiral. Hopefully rekka needs to be really bad since her st.LP doesn’t reach that far and the player needs to have solid confirms and execution.
- Easy on crouch techs if she has EX.
Rose is REALLY annoying. Turtle and Soul Spark all day, very safe, high damage. Can’t do much against her.
Also, at her range, EVERYTHING she does outpriotitized my cr.mp, cr.hp, and rekkas. Her rushdown is fierce and I can’t get her off of me.
Rose is all about spacing. Imo there is only one truly good position against her, which is mid range. Right outside of her slide/st.HK. From there you can Rekka her all day, punish her soul sparks on reaction (EX CW or jump-in) and whiff punish.
Every other spot is annoying because from far away she can just go soul sparks barrage on you. Close range she has a set a great normals to whiff punish or poke you (cr.MP, st.HK, st.MK…).
Goal is basically to walk her to the corner or knock her down since she’s free on wake up (use LK CW OS on jump ins). Focus is also good if the Rose player isn’t to soul spiral happy.
Gouken is really strong. Hadokens keep me at bay and his invincibility frames are a tough nail to deal with. I can’t Rekka him if he’s ducking them using his dash-palm or whatever. Very tough character to deal with, any tips?
Also, I’m really not that familiar with Oni’s moveset. What’s that annoying crossunder thing he does where, if you’re low-blocking, he gets you from the other side and chains into the Ultra? How do you deal with Oni? Every one of his normals seem to outpoke mine (he can beat out my j.hk with an s.hp and beat my cr.mp and cr.hp as well as rekkas).
Gouken is easy. Here is a match I had vs Delfinator, one of the best Goukens in the world. I’ll add other matches with Gouken so you get an idea.
He literally cannot do anything once you’ve rushed him down. His normals, except st :mk:, which is 3 startup, are bad up close. He either hits high or low. Use that to your adv. I wouldn’t jump at him much cuz his st :hp: is similar to ours (the handshake) which stops people from jumping in. Same goes for cr. :mk:. And he has tatsu/ex tatsu/air fireballs.
He only has counter/ex counter (which counters any part of his body that you hit), but they can be baited if you know it’s coming. You can literally throw him if he just does it randomly. You can also CW, but make sure the first hit connects, because that’s the one that breaks focus. The only thing that you have to really worry about is the demon flip, especially the ex flip because it’s INVINCIBLE from startup till he literally presses a button or he doesn’t press anything which I believe leads to sweep. He also might do air counter if you are consistently AA’ing him at the peak of his jump, but if you do the AA late, it should beat out Gouken clean.
Rush punches are all -6 on block, so jab x rekkas for free. Also cr mp x super cancel (or just raw super if you’re quick enough). His ex tatsu does not, I repeat, DOES NOT HIT CROUCHING OPPONENTS (tbh, I expect that to change in USF4, he’s too free for dmg for Capcom to leave it in). On KD, most Gouken’s go for either counter (cuz they’re tryna get a counter hit into their shenanigans), backdash (esp. in the corner, which you can easily OS) or ex tatsu (which if block, you can basically punish heavily cuz he’s -40 or something).
Fireballs are tricky to deal with, because Gouken has the best recovery with fireballs in the game (2nd is Guile), so he can go right from fireball to any other special move. If you’re reaction is quick enough, you can EX CW/Super/Ultra through them.
His sweep is also -3, so you’ll see Goukens sweep then sweep again because it’s only 6 startup. You can be a little outside of the range of sweep, and if Gouken does it, rekkas for free.
To tech his backthrow, you have to tech late, because it’s a 5 frame throw rather than the standard 3 for everyone. If you’ve cornered them and they do air tatsu to the other side of the screen, you can just dash to them as they land and rekkas for free. Do it quickly and you should be fine.
Thanks. I need to focus on Oni now, though. While I type this, I’m battling SavagelyThizzin who is dominating my Fei in the most inhuman ways possible. Not just by block-baiting my moves and outpoking me with Oni’s HP (f.hp?) and his Tatsus, but Oni has godlike recovery time off of every special so he’s almost impossible to punish from any range. Poking is just asking for a counterpoke, which usually gets me hit by a combo.
Then there’s that guardbreaking move he uses where he dashes by you while you block and beats you up.
Also know that sweep is -8, so you can punish those. And you have to block where Oni is going when he tries to hit you with the cross up rush punch. He’s safe only on the light version. And his DP has like 0 recovery when he labs on the ground, so if he whiffs it, you should hit him with close fierce x rekka, or focus crumple x ultra.
Nice matches DoctorP. I like your use of close s. lp on Gouken, really utilizing the frame advantage on block there. I tend to go for cr. lk since I haven’t memorized which characters that s. lp whiffs on (I know, the list is here somewhere, I’m just too lazy to look for it, haha).
Was lag an issue with your set of matches against The Empowerment?
Yeah, there was lag. That’s the sad part playing online is the netcode is not always strong so you have to press buttons faster. But other times I put myself in danger with how I was tryna get in and got caught too.
St jab works on most of the cast if they’re crouching with the exception of;
Blanka
Cammy
Chun
Viper
DJ
Dhalsim
Rufus
Yang
Viper & DJ miss on the first and connected on the second hit. Rufus and Yang randomly connected. These were my findings though. Go in the lab and practice it with the rest of the cast.
Remember also the Cr :lk:/Cr :lp: is even on block, so its not a true block string. Only Cr :mp: is plus on block. All his other crouching moves are even or minus.
Any way to deal with Cody and his hard-hitting strikes?
Any way to deal with Cody and his hard-hitting strikes?
Don’t always crouch cuz he’ll do the fwd HP which hurt. It’s really more the frame traps that you have to be worried about. Be on the lookout for both versions of Zonk especially EX on wakeup.
None of his CU’s are safe. But the they do push you back some so jab x rekkas should help you out.
And be selective on jumping because his :mp: and ruffian kicks are good AA tools.
M.Bison is probably my worst matchup right now. s.mk and s.hk pokes completely beat out mine, including rekkas. His scissor kick and EX Psycho Crusher can’t be punished, and he can easily escape the corner pressure. I don’t know what else to do.
