Considering how sentinel can kill anyone the moment he lands a touch, its only fair he dies by the same. If anything he should be nerfed more. IMO 800,000.
Why the fuck is everyone alright with this? It was so easy to beat him before and if you didn’t know how, help was always here. Is learning a match-up so fucking hard that you need to bitch out Capcom into submission? Now the giant fucking robot has health that can be compared to cat-girl.
Why the fuck isn’t everyone alright with this? It is so easy to win with him now and if you don’t know how, help is always here. Is learning a match-up so fucking hard that you need to bitch out Capcom for balancing? Now the giant fucking robot still has all the same goddamn tools that made him good in the first place.
Quit crying.
Seriously though, he’s still really good. You guys need to calm down. The average player has a hard time dealing with him and he provides less skilled players a way to win easier. He was overused and overpowered. This patch will help change that. There is a reason why he is the most played character in the game and I guarantee you its not because everyone has such fond memories as a child of their favorite comic book character Sentinel.
See…this is my issue.
How many of people like that play in tournaments legit used Sent cuz they liked the way he played or like actually tried to do anything with him technologically? I feel very few. Most picked him cuz he’s good and easy and it was rare to see anyone do anything with Sentinel that was like reminiscent of high level play. Like setting up command grabs or overheading with his flying air L.
The way things are going Sent’s shelf life is very short now. The only people that are going to stick with him are those that legitimately like the character. Most of the top players using Sent now are at even more of a deficit than the were before now that there’s so many counters to him and on top of that now he has no health backing up his counter matchups. Once the top players find a new character Sent is gone. In tournaments I only see him being good for level 3 XF now and there’s characters nearly as good as he is in Level 3 XF and definitely better on point.
The big thing I’m wondering is is anyone even figuring out things about Sentinel on point that are strong enough to keep him good for tournaments? Like actual setups and shit that will be powerful in tourneys? Cuz honestly the only reason he was working in tourneys was his big health made up for his lack of ability to really do anything other than swing dat skillet and mash hard drive when in trouble. His big health made his strong but very vulnerable assist not a huge liability. Like the things people are figuring out with characters like She Hulk and Spencer just so far seem to totally outweigh what people are figuring out about Sentinel. There are other characters with assists just as good or better than Sent’s so I dont really see the future boding well for him in tourneys.
Though this patch did what it was supposed to do if anything which is force people online to use a different character if they dont know how to block with Sent.
LOL Ouch
Why, what changed?
Damage buff on some normals. Meaning more damage buff on XF3.
Sometimes Capcom, I wonder what you were thinking. Just sometimes.
It’s not about Sentinel losing his health, it’s all the people bitching about how he was overpowered. Learning match-ups and your team is what separate the average from the above-average. You don’t go editing things that are perfectly fine. So now the next time a character is considered over-powered, Capcom will nerf. Watch Phoenix get destroyed, can’t wait.
I remember you posting a few pages back saying something like “he was overpowered, something needed to be done.” No, nothing needed to be done, you needed to learn how to fight him and learn from your mistakes. If you are still having trouble with him, let me know I will be more than happy to give you some tips.
I don’t know about everyone else. But I’m going to get in the lab with Sentinel and bring him up to that level. Personally there is no way I can’t use Sentinel in this game. He’s everyhing I want in a character. He’s good at punishing, he has good movment, and he has good damage. I’m a turtle player, and sitting back with Sentinel and punishing whiffs is just too satisfying to pass up. And I’m just going to have to go in the lab and fine tune my mixups.
I’ve been in the lab with Magneto since the game came out. But the thing is, Magneto is just not the character I should be focusing on. I’ll still be using a character like Sentinel. And I have Hulk to watch my back if I need health.
So all of us who are trying to master the robot, let’s go to the lab, discuss strats, matchups, combos, mixups, and setups. And all of you whiners, you need to stop trolling.
I’ll say it again: everybody saying Sentinel was fine and needed no changes really has no way to argue with the fact of his prevalence online and in tourneys. To those people: are you suggesting he was played by such an overwhelming number of people because they were FANS of the CHARACTER? Or that it was just coincidence? I mean SOMETHING had to be motivating all that playtime.
Prevalence in online and tourneys? Name a winner of a major that used Sentinel. As for online, are fighting games really becoming to be judged after their online play?Dormammu’s and Wesker’s number are pretty high up there too, and also appear much more often in later brackets of tournaments then Sentinel does.
So do you really want to sit here and tell me that Sentinel wasn’t overpowered? Offer me an explanation of why so many people play with him. I’ll help you: Its because he is an above average character that is easy to play with and win with. The argument of “there are ways to beat him” does not mean he was not OP. I consider myself above average and I can handle the average Sentinel. I hate playing against him though, and I don’t like feeling like its such an uphill battle everytime he is on someone’s team. I never said he was invincible.
You say “you don’t go editing things that are perfectly fine.” Well Sentinel was not “perfectly fine.” He was overused and overpowered.
I’ve been playing fighting games probably since before you were even born, so excuse me if I find your argument humorous. Basically you’re saying “If he can be beaten, he’s perfectly fine. Just learn to play better and counterpick” That’s probably one of the most ignorant arguments you could make. No character is unbeatable in a game like this, but that doesn’t mean that something shouldn’t be done to help balance things.
And thanks for the offer of tips, but I’m pretty sure there’s not much you could teach me, kid.
this will seperate the people who claim to play him for the fact he is a “cool and unique character design” from those who play him simply because he was god tier in MVC2.
The only change he needed was more time to let the game grow as it was. It’s not as if he was actually winning tourneys at this point. And I’d argue that the reason we see an abundance of Sentinel is not necessarily because he’s broken, but because he is easy to use and contributes to well to wins at a lower level.
I think that if we had more time to let the game grow, it would have developed and we would have truly seen if Sentinel was overpowered or not and if really changing his health was warranted.
Also, I don’t play as Sentinel; I just dislike them altering the gameplay so early.
I’ll be honest. I play Sentinel because I like his style. I was’t originally going to play him. I was going to play Trish, MODOK, and Dorm. I found trish wasn’t really my style and neither was Modok. I mean I’ve been a low tier user before in other games, but the only reason I may have stuck with low tier is because of their playstyle. I just love to punish people for making mistakes. I hated this game until I picked up Sentinel. People would mash me to death and randomly launch me. But that all went away when I used Sentinel, Hulk, and Magneto.
When someone does something stupid, I want the to pay and pay big. I couldn’t get people to respect Trish or MODOK, but they respect Sentinel and Hulk and Magneto. Now I get to play a thinking opponent instead of being randomed out. I don’t care if they nerf his life. He still is a punishment field, and you still need to think with him to beat more skilled opponents. Plus the robot can move and you need to have your spacing down. All things I like in a character.
Who really cares if he’s overused? People use him for different reasons, and there really isn’t anything wrong with that.
“I hated this game and used to have problems winning and then I picked Sentinel. Now I win a lot more and I love it!”
If I lose to some really solid stuff, then hey that’s fine. I can take it as being outplayed and me wanting to step my game up. If I lose to a guy just mashing buttons at random and throwing out random supers, then I don’t like it. I also don’t like that my characters had a hard time punishing such stupidity. But when I used Sentinel they HAD to respect it. Sentinel just felt like natural fit for me. And I no longer had to be salty about losing randoms players.
When I lose now it was really genuinely because I got outplayed.
That’s because Justin Wong has won pretty much every tournament to date. And that’s because he’s an exceptional player with a far-above-average gift for the game, and he has specifically set out to find ways to avoid and beat Sentinels. The only other major tourney winner really is Combofiend, and he came out of nowhere with his Spencer and has been beaten by Justin several times since. The other folks who have always come up second or third (i.e. - the would-of-won’s if Justin hadn’t been there) almost all have Sentinel (Marn, Floe, etc.). Sentinel has been in well over 50-60% of tourney and online matches, sometimes upwards of 80-90%. People suggesting this is coincidence or just looking for a pattern that isn’t there are either kidding themselves or insulting others’ intelligence.
Why is it so hard to believe that people like Sentinel because of his playstyle. I won’t be dropping Sentinel becaue controlling him is like controlling a Gundam. I want to have the most mobile and fastest Sentinel on the planent. That’s why a lot of people play him. He’s like your own mech because he’s so hard to control at times. Sentinel can still be pretty fast in this game, but only with the right pilot. I used Sentinel in MVC2 because of his fast fly unfly stuff and how fast I could make him move. I didn’t want to pick him up in 3 initially because his speed was nerfed, but you can still make him fast.
While I think the changes were shortsighted and really dumb to throw out A SINGLE MONTH into the life cycle of a fighting game, it’s turning out to not be as big a deal for competitive play as I thought it would. Honestly if anything it’s making playing Sent way more exciting because you feel so much more like you’re on the knife edge of victory or defeat, especially now that Sent vs Sent matches are so incredibly deadly.
It was a stupid thing to do so soon but the silver lining is that if you know what you’re doing, it just makes fights a little more intense. I know I’m being overly charitable and optimistic, but still. Gotta find joy where you can.
I want you to imagine there’s a reality in which this is a constructive thing to say and not at all shitty or belligerent.
Because a lot of people have the perception that his playstyle is “win the game by mashing huge robot buttons”
