There’s just something magical about the way this was phrased.
Sent isn’t unbeatable, but there’s definitely stuff about him that could stand to be smacked with the nerf bat a couple times, and that wouldn’t even significantly lower his overall power. His super-armored moves, for example – his launcher having super armor is completely acceptable. It’s slow, it’s punishable, but in exchange for all that it offers immense reward on hit. Nothing wrong with that. But his sweep having armor…that shit hits half fucking screen, does three hits, hits low, knocks down, is special cancellable, easily chains to his launcher for one of the game’s easiest and most damaging BnBs (with option of instagib, resources permitting), and on top of all that it has ARMOR? Something ought to give there.
And it’s not like a couple nerfs along those lines would probably even hurt Sent that much in a game like this. Having a big profile in this game is a much smaller problem than it was in Marvel 2; there are no more tallboy infinites on Sent and he has a ton of universal defensive options (pushblock, DHC, guard cancel tag) on top of assists and his own zoning power. He’s a deceptively fast giant who can zone, for crying out loud! He’s definitely not a delicate case like SF4 Zangief, where a couple key nerfs could easily send him flying down the tier list to bottom-feed with T. Hawk, or Makoto, where a couple key buffs (and relative nerfs) for AE have sent her screaming upwards to challenge Fei and the twins. Sent can take one or two for the team and still be quite playable.
Can anyone help me with flight combos? i have absolutely no idea how to do them or where to start. i see people do them but I always just fly over the opponent when i do it.
so after the launcher what do i do in the air?
I’ve been killing Sent players all day, with all kinds of teams. Compared to MvC2, his keep-away hasn’t really been improved, whereas the cast-in-general’s ability to get in has greatly improved (and he no longer has lolMando to fall back on). If this is your idea of a ‘broken’ character, you must not have ever played the other versus games.
This has to be the whiniest fucking thread in the MvC3 forums… jesus fucking christ you guys are pathetic. If you don’t want Sentinel players to body your sorry asses for free, then learn to fucking play you worthless fucking scrubs.
Anyways, just wanted to bring up this really interesting player that bodied me earlier today. He was running Sent-A/Dante-A/Doom-B and had this really interesting pressure strategy involving… well I’m not sure what to call it, basically abusing Sentinel’s stomps and flight mode, using Doom to disrupt combos and harass the other guy so they can’t stay in one spot, and you can’t see Doom very well since his sent is up in the air 3/4s of the match, then using jam session to disrupt attempts to jump up and knock him out of the air… he’d play more traditional Sent keepaway intermittently, but never long enough for someone to really get comfortable with it, mostly just the occasional spit and sentinel force before going back to the air… He had something like a 60 game winstreak with it too, lol.
Obviously not a strategy to use against She Hulk teams, but it seemed like a pretty unique and effective playstyle, so I just thought I’d mention it.
So how many of us in here love the NaCl provoked by Sentinel?
I’m running Iron Man / Tron Bonne / Sentinel and I’ve seriously plowed some teams with just Sentinel. Granted I’m not great yet, but it’s quite remarkable how Sentinel can just get in haha

he destroyed some players sentinel and out of the top 8(3 of them weren’t using sentinel)
is his fear factor finally gone
have players just stopped seeing him as a threat and more as a minor annoyance?

Seriously though, Sentinal is stupidly powerful and pretty easy to use. I’m pretty much shocked whenever I win a game against any Sent players (no, I don’t use Sent) who can do a launcher combo.
Eh, what can ya do though, just gotta try to learn how to fight him as best as you can. But MAN can that guy hit!
Just found out his jumping footstomp can be fly cancelled into j.:l:, j.:l:, j.:h:, cancel the flying into j.:h:, cr., launcher, and then proceed with w/e you want. Not sure its usefullness and it might be old news but it looks really cool.
I understand all the hate for him but right now hes on my team, so I’m happy, and surprisingly it was originally because I thought he looked cool and had a badass theme, I never played mvc2 and yet in the hands of me he is still pretty broken. Oddly, I assumed he would be good (their not gonna make him go from god tier to shit) but I’m surprised they didn’t stop, sit back, and go: “wait a tick, this shits broken as fuck”
Also, according to the official MvC3 guide, Sentinel has HYPER ARMOR on his launcher?!?!? Is this shit fucking true?? Not super armor, but hyper armor??? Does he really need that shit Capcom? Really?
The guide says:
“Hyper armor from frames 12-21.”
and also:
“Sentinel’s :s: launcher is unique among basic and special attacks because it has innate hyper armor during a portion of it. Couple that with the huge swath it cuts in front of Sentinel, and the high number of active frames, and you have a terrific attack to keep foes honest. It’s technically unsafe if guarded, but your foe is pushed back so far on block that it’s awkward for them to punish Sentinel cleanly.”
