Shut up! - The Sentinel Thread

It’s not logic. It’s just what ways a word can be accepted as meaning. ‘Villain’ can have multiple definitions, here’s one dictionary entry: "the person or thing responsible for specified trouble, harm or damage: ‘The industrialized nations are the real environmental villains’. "

If you wanna go and try and erase that particular definition from human understanding do it somewhere else.

Sorry, I didn’t know this was another ‘Magneto’s voice sucks’ topic. I’ll leave it here.

Well in your case…

Hey was wondering if sentinels drone assist could be used as an AA in marvel 2?

Semantics =/= Logic

So… I’m cool with Sentinel being good in this game, but what are his drawbacks? I mean he’s apparently got the most health, and does so much damage he doesn’t need X-Factor. He seems a bit slower, but he’s not what I’d call “slow,” and he’s got plenty of range. Big+powerful = slow, right? Small+speedy = weak. Long range = low health/mobility. So… what’s the tradeoff for Sentinel to achieve balance? (Note this isn’t a complaint or a challenge. There’s no sarcasm or venom in this question. I mean it literally, because I want to know what his “weak” areas are.)

His weakness is he’s huge as fuck.

Why doesn’t Capcom have any large characters? I want that Rathalos action up in here.

It doesn’t say “deal with it,” but I’m quite fond of this one.

See, but that’s the beauty of a fighting game – none of that shit actually MATTERS in order to convey a character IN-GAME. A character in a fighting game is defined far, FAR less by whatever stupid backstory they come up for them than by how they behave in the game, how their personality comes out through their animations, their incessant move-name-shouting, and their visual design. Ryu isn’t iconic because of his struggles agains tthe Dark Hadou or Bison’s ostensibly asexual fixation with his body, he’s iconic because he’s that serious-looking dude with the bare feet and the headband who throws Hadokens and fights freaks of nature like Dhalsim and Blanka without batting an eye. He’s a resilient little Japanese dude with a lot of no-nonsense attacks who never says die and fights with honor. That’s the true nature of his character – if all the stuff in his ending/midboss cinematics were to suddenly vanish from the game data, it wouldn’t take away from his true essence.

Do comic Sentinels have a lot of character? No. Does MvC Sentinel have a lot of character? Hell yes he does, but people too often can’t see it past their frothing rage that their favorite character isn’t the game.

Creepy Japanese robot baby?

I don’t disagree with this, all I was saying is that I’m pretty sure the person who wrote that article was actually talking about backstory. You’re right, none of that matters at all in a fighting game – or at least it doesn’t matter to people who actually play fighting games to, you know…fight.

The concept of a killing machine that doesn’t know fear, remorse, or pity is what makes Sentinel so awesome. Like Kyle Reese said of the Terminator:

‘It can’t be reasoned with, it can’t be bargained with.’

So what if they don’t really have a thought to call their own. They are killing machines designed for the sole purpose of pacifying/exterminating mutants. I can live with that motive.

What do y’all think of sents assists? Think any of them could be used as makeshit AA’s? at 7:06

Personaly, I was worried that drones assist would not be as useful for combo extending because they now start from the floor and go up, but it looks to have an even bigger hitbox then the older version. That means combo extending should be there and more vertical air control.

And bomb assist could be godlike to somebody like Dormammu.

Bomb assist looks great for defense. Less-so for offense. Unless the opponent jumps up into the drones themselves, the bombing part doesn’t hit full-screen. Still looks good, though.

Stop having such good taste in characters sir.

Air Raid looks incredible, especially for keepaway. I thought Sentinel Force would be a no-brainer, but now I’m stuck between the two.

I know right? :open_mouth: On the other hand, having three projectiles charging into your opponent is awfully convenient…

he has no super armor, he can be comboed easy due to his huge size, rocket Punch look likeit go slowed, and sentinel force isn’t quite as pressiuring as it used to be. also he does less chip.

The bombing (Air raid?) does hit full screen, Smexy did it from the opposite side of the screen no problem.
What happened in the video is later he pushed back his opponent after calling out Sentinel to drop the bombs, which caused them to not hit.

The mini-Sentinel (Sentinel Force?) assist looks pretty terrible. In the same video it shows they do not combo together. Opponent gets hit by one and blocks the next 2. So since it offers no hitstun lockdown, and it’s slow and beat out by beams or guns, it really looks like the bombs are better.

Rocket punch is pretty short range but useful OTG if you need it I suppose.

That they do not lockdown is an improvement for some characters, because it means blockstun ends between them, which makes them better for cross-ups. So, I could bring in Sentinel to assist, let one get blocked, and then teleport behind my opponent with Dante/Dormammu/Wesker/Phoenix and the assist becomes hard to block. So it’s not really worse, it has just changed in its usage some.

I’d like to see how Aid Raid functions during actual battles before deciding between the two. I plan on maining Dormammu, so both assists are very appealing to me.
