Shut up! - The Sentinel Thread

Don’t forget that silly bodysplash

I still laugh at the he isn’t a unique character argument. How is a 70000 thousand pound gigantic robot not a unique character in this game? I would argue he is the most unique.

I understand he is mass produced in the comics but who gives fuck. Sentinel helped fuel the Marvel scene for 10 years so that in itself should give him enough character. Add that on top of how much attention he is getting from the whining scrubs and he has about as much character as anybody in this game.

I love the hate though. Will make my wins with Sentinel feel that much better. Hopefully I get some interesting hate mail too.

Anyone who thinks Sentinel is a “lifeless” character hasn’t paid one single bit of attention to how much care and love went into his COTA design. With all those crazy mechanical contortions and his genius anime-style segmented design, he looks like a much cooler and more convincing robot (IMO) than pretty much any of his comic incarnations (who by and large never swerved far from the “guy in robot suit from 50s sci-fi flicks” look).

They’ve also obviously never paid attention to WHY he was so good in MvC2, and how well it speaks for his mechanical design. Sentinel was on so many teams in Marvel less for his individual killpower (although obviously his HSF loop was nothing to fuck with) and more because he complemented his teammates in SO many ways. He was an outstanding zoning assist (drones MADE Spiral), a great combo assist (particularly for Magneto via Rocket Punch assist), and damn near a universal DHC option (it wasn’t just Storm who enjoyed the benefits of aerial rave -> air super -> DHC to HSF, after all). He was probably the greatest all-around support character in the game. And on top of all that he was good on point for being a novel fighting game design – a “big” character with safe high-mobility options rather than spending half the game in blockstun on the ground. Sentinel may be an emotionless killing machine, but on the design front he’s bursting with life to anybody with a functioning pair of eyes. He totally deserves to be included in MvC3.

Bottom line, scrubs shouldn’t be so goddamn terrified of Sent becoming god tier again, both because the Marvel 3 engine reins in a lot of his bullshit and a lot more characters are being built to deal with his style of character and/or emulate his MvC2 utility. I think he’ll still be (really) good, but he won’t be taking a massive dump over a bunch of characters who just can’t counter him or match his team synergy anymore.

Good enough for ya?

That line in particular made me laugh out loud. For some of the other characters there were lines that I thought sounded a little unprofessional, like when they end Arthur’s with something like “For a knight, Arthur sure fights like a coward”, but it really sounds like this guy was having a mental breakdown when writing the Sentinel part.

hahaha nvm, i just used this one

For some reason I can hear the Wu sayin “H, S, F ain’t nothin to f**k wit” ,lol. And yeah, Sentinel’s cool

This. sob

That entire article stinks of shite.

‘Ryu represents SF1, Chun represents SF2, and Akuma represents SF3’? Whaddafuk? How basic (and mostly inept) an analysis is that? From the Sentinel write-up you’d think the robot impregnated his sister and forced her to have leave the baby in the jungle to be raised by orangutans. Such salt.

I always find it hilarious when people who don’t know, try to sound like they know.

99% sure they aren’t talking about animations or looks, but a character from the comic. He has as much “character” as the runaway garbage truck I brought up in another thread when talking about why a default Sentinel wasn’t an “iconic villain” since it’s nothing but a weapon with zero thoughts, goals or personality of it’s own.

Like I’ve been said before Capcom should of gave Sent a bigger dome, different paint job and label it Master Mold to shut them guys up.

The Mega Man helmet is such a perfect extra touch.

Whatever for? Let the tears flow freely. Let us frolic in the rivers they form. :coffee:

Terminator? Robo-Ky? HAL?

10 more days

Thanks for the impressions, also I am really enjoying how grumpy you sound while describing this.

I didn’t know anything about Robo-Ky until this post, but HAL is closer to Skynet than a Terminator. If you want to consider a concept a villain, then sure weapons are villains, although most rational people don’t think in those terms. You may as well say sticks and rocks are villains since they can be used to bludgeon things to death.

Gee that’s some sound reasoning there.

Oh my god, not this again.

Yeah, heaven forbid anyone actually use logic.
