Showdown Championships 2008 - Houston, Tx, March 21-23

i just smell scrub talk. obviously, this shithead thinks highly of himself. if he says the items are gay only after a month of playing, and actually going to show that they’re gay, then that’s scrub talk.

if it’s broken as you say it is, then come and prove it and win 1st.

someone ban him for use of a certain word. obviously he’s just a troll now. scrub talk.

Either way, I’m officially registered and booked…good to go!

Oh my gods, oh my gods, I leave for one day to go to school and come back to find all you boys playing so rough. Well, don’t think to much of it. There are mysteries that this world was just not meant to understand - like how Inui can somehow magically see into the future and complain in the present about a rule set that hasn’t even been posted yet. OooOOooOOoohh, he must be using Melee glitch magic. (I bet you play Fox in Melee… Or Peach.) Or stolen PozerWolf’s white magic stick and final smashed himself into the future.

Anyways, I’ll pwn his posts a bit, then I’ll post the Rule sets that will be used at the AM Brawl tournaments. That’ll at least give him something tangible to complain about.

First things first , Inui, stop wallowing in your past Melee glory. I know the organizer for Midnight Gaming Championship, I know people on MLG too, I know several of the Smash tournament organizers in the Southwest that are on the Smashboards, I know some of the heads of the National Video Game Association. That doesn’t prove crap about me, or you, except that it’s called bragging. Big deal. I’d rather be know for what I do, not who I know. So stop flaunting your freakin’ girly parts - it’s in bad taste and no one wants to see that. Like the Spartan’s once said (and if they didn’t say this, they would have), “Melee? THIS. IS. BRAWL!!!” Second, smash boards has NOT come up with ANY definitive Brawl rule set. The rule set you posted is one that was come up by a guy - just like me - who needed one for his tournaments. It’s not the holy grail, it’s not a mantra, it’s not the freakin’ holy B(raw)ible. The game hasn’t been out long enough to determine a definitive rule set yet. Nothing makes your rule set the definitive rule set that we should automatically follow blindly. Please stop toting your views as though they are the only ones that are right.

Dude, you don’t even know what rule set we’re using. How can you possibly make a claim like this with out even knowing what the rule set we’re using is? Now, to make you feel like you’ve wasted even more of your pointless time arguing about nothing - except for a few exceptions, the rule set you posted (back on page 2 of this thread) is almost the same basic rule set we’ve come up with too. gasp So I guess our “horrible rules” means you have “horrible rules” too. Several things are different though, but this is AMERICA and my 1st amendment - says you’re a communist. Also, we’re having a 1v1, 2v2 and FFA. That’s 3 completely different rule sets that we’ve been testing out because each one is based on different strategies and mechanics. Excuse us for wanting to be thorough and fair and completely test each stage in each mode with each character. That’s a time consuming effort and you bashing us behind it before we even post the results or rule sets is frankly rude and obnoxious.

I don’t feel like arguing about who has the right to say what about what and all that other stuff really (frankly, you’re not going to change your mind regardless of what we say so why bother taking up forum space, right). For all intents and purposes, it’s the RIGHT of who ever is holding the event to make the rules, and it’s the RIGHT of the attendee to not attend. The end.

We choose rule sets based on what is fair and, second, by what is wanted by most people. Melee didn’t always have the rules it goes by now, they were chosen over YEARS of testing and tournament experience. And even then, it was mostly decided upon by a small group of people - not the vast majority. They just went along with it because as the rules changed, it was usually for the better. There were lots of things that were unfair in Melee, but were allowed and used in tournaments anyways.

If items were banned for being “broken” and “random”, then why wasn’t Peach banned? She was broken and had items and they were random - stitch face anyone? That’s just one example. Just because everyone does something doesn’t make it right. But I’m not here to argue that. And NO, Fox is not broken with items turned on (I mean, he’s still good, but it gives other characters a better chance when items are on, for example: He can’t do his standard broken Fox move (grab, up throw and - well, you know the rest of the combo, I’m sure) while holding items, so it’s either…
-give the opponent the advantage and let them take the item and have it get used against you but keep his normal moves, or
-possibly reflect the item but that’s risky because not all items can be reflected, or
-get the item and loose Fox’s broken move kill combo.
It helps even the playing field. Also, Peach going crazy vegetable spam on you is fair? But she’s using items. And they’re random too. One of them, can randomly KO you in one hit! (got to time 2:35 to see stitch face (Peach’s randomly generated one hit KO item) kill a player at 5% ) So, according to your own logic, she should have been 100% banned. Hm.

Have you even played this game with Smash balls on? The smash ball takes several hits to brake open and it floats around the stage back and forth, covering the entire stage. It takes mind games and strategies to break them open. For example: if you hit the smash ball first, you won’t break it open, but you’ll weaken it, thus maybe enabling your opponent to break it open when they hit it next, but depending on which character you play (heavy hitter, light weight, etc), the smash ball might need to be hit up to 10 times before it breaks open! Now, what if you concentrate on hitting your opponent instead of the SB while they’re distracted by it, you can get a lot of damage in. I’ve seen lots of players KO’ed by other players because they concentrated on going after the SB instead of keeping their guard up against their opponent. So, it takes skill and strategy to get the SB open, then, even when it is open, it takes skill and positioning for most characters to use the SB correctly (like Zelda, Marth, Link, Ike, etc). And some Final Smashes are easy to dodge, like Lucario (that boy almost never hits), and Lucas (you can dodge his FS by simply standing still, or taking a small step forwards or backwards once). Not only that, but the SB can be beat out of people too, so just because someone gets the SB doesn’t mean they’ll get to use it. And even if they do use it, doesn’t mean it will hit. - So, no, just because a SB appears close to you, does NOT mean you “automatically” get a stock. Far from it.

You’re mama is an ancient game. Don’t dis classic games. Marvel is a perfectly respectable cheesefest. Just because it’s not Smash doesn’t mean you can come in here and dis our other games because you don’t play them.

Anyways, there are two things that have come up that we’ve been trying to find a way around, but really can’t and those two things alone make it to where we’ve decided to not use Smash balls for 1v1 (I’m sure you’re rejoicing - not really, I’m sure you wanted to use Smash balls too). The Land master and it’s effective cheese is one (blast you Fox! Again!), and two is the spawning of SB while the opponent is off the field, recovering or busy flying off the stage to untimely death. In free for alls, that’s not really an issue, but… Then problem number one is still in effect times three. Egh. So, more than likely, SB will get turned off. But we’re still looking at possibly keeping them on for teams or FFA. Like I said, still testing.

Oh, really? Well, here’s a little food for though… You have these stages playable in the rule set you posted, correct? Well, they should be banned under the following reasons:
Luigi’s Mansion- Promotes camping, projectiles can’t travel through until the walls of the stage are destroyed
Coneria- Dedede can chain grab you infinitely in the right corner of the stage, a reason why Onett is banned too
Pictochat- Certain elements appear that deal waaaay too much damage or kill players - this is the same as randomly generated one hit KO items that benefit no character
Frigrate Orpheon- Stage flips, and sometimes can position you under the bottom of the stage during certain off ground moves (like low hopping, jumping, being in the air from a hit, etc)
Castle Siege- During stage changes from the 3rd form to the 1st, it’s possible to fall through the stage
And that’s just a quick example of the “testing” we’ve been doing to create the rule set we have. We can justify /everything/ on the rule set we’re using and back it up with not only a reason, but an example too. Yes, we DO know what we’re doing. Yes, we ARE Smash players. Yes, YOU were just owned.

But whatever, none of that matters, Melee is over and done with. Blah. Let us never speak of it again.

I agree. Freakin’ Fox/Peach/Marth. Ugh. At least Fox and Peach have been deservingly toned in Brawl. And Marth is now Ike’s pretty b*tch.

It shall be so. If he can comes (which I would actually like) and if he can make it to the finals. Only finals will be recorded.

OK, whoa. Long post. Anyways, here is the rule set for 1v1 thus far. We’re still testing items and weeding them out for 2v2 and FFA. For 1v1 though, there will be no items. (See, Inui if you had just waited to actually KNOW what our rule set was before you went all crazy self righteous, you could have avoided looking like a complete jerk. Oh, well, here have a cookie! Just for you - http://youtube.com/watch?v=1S0gkC63lvg)

Brawl 1v1
Time: 6 min
3 stock
Items: off

Stages for Random: Battlefield, Final Destination, Isle Delfino, Yoshi’s Island(Brawl version), Halbeard, Lylat Cruise, Smashville, Rainbow Cruise, Pokemon stadium(DX)

Stages for Counterpick: All the one’s within random plus, Mario Circuit, Great Sea, Norfair, Jungle Japes, Brinstar

Banned stages: Luigi’s Mansion, Mushroomy Kingdom, Rumble Falls, Coneria, Eldin Bridge, Pokemon Stadium 2, Spear Pillar, Onett, Port Town, Wario Ware, New Pork City, Skyworld,The Summit, 75m, Mario Bros., Flat Zone 2, Pictochat, frigrate Orpheon, Electroplankton Stage, Shadow Moses, Hyrule Temple, Yoshi’s Island(DX), Big Blue, Distant Planet, Castle Siege

Dave Stupid Rule: If player wins on a certain stage during a set, he can not counter pick that stage again during the set.

Anyways, again, I’ll re-state it: this rule set is not final. We’re still testing items and stages for infinites and etc. I’ll post the 1v1, 2v2, and FFA rule sets on mashharder.com on Saturday. We’re doing a major test of the rules for confirmation on Friday.

Also, I need to apologize to Inui. Sorry dude. I know it must be frustrating to go to tournaments and have them be run by total morons who don’t know the first thing about rules, glitches, stages, etc. Believe me. We’ve ALL been there and done that. I know lots of people that have been gayed out, myself included, by incompetent people running tournament. Especially when money is on the line. Yes, most con tournaments are run by… Unqualified people. (That’s actually the main reason why I don’t go to cons outside of Texas - not worth the drive to be so terribly disappointed). But - Not all cons are like this. Not all people are unqualified. We would actually very much so enjoy you coming to Anime Matsuri. You can see then that not all con tournaments are run crappy. Showdown is going to be amazing and so will the game room. There will be quite a few good players there, so we hope you’ll come. Please ignore most of the cock posting on forums - all these people (well, most of them, hahaha) are actually good people. I’m sure you’re not too bad a guy yourself. So… Truce.

He’s right, you know. I was there. I saw it. grins
^ ~

Inui is moist pussy in human form. Tournament is called Texas Showdown, not Texas Ho-down. Its safe to leave the tampon at home, kid.

This thread is awesome.

Hmm, as much as Id have liked to see Castle Siege, I understand the whole mess, since the same thing happened to my friends playing on wario ware, where the stage changes, and any ledge you might have been grabbing disappears. Other then that, I like that you let Battleship Halberd be a neutral stage, that couple’d with Yoshi’s Island (Brawl) and Delfino Plaza are my favorite stages.

Good show!

The stages I posted are probably the only thing that can be debated upon. The current rules allow for some pretty whack stages in order to see what’s broken or not on those stages.

However, items will never be allowed because they’re inherently unfair no matter what.

As for the arguments regarding Peach, that’s uncontrollable unless we ban the character. If she was able to pull out any item in the game, then it’d be a problem. Bombs suck, and swords and Mr. Saturns aren’t scary at all. We have a choice to keep items banned, which decreases the amount of luck and randomness in the game and increases how much skill is needed.

Smash is a party game. It, sadly, must be castrated in order to fit competitive play.

Two questions about Brawl 1v1. Are all items definitely off? Are advanced slob counterpick rules being used?

Also, what about Brawl teams? If there’s both a real(no items, real rules) singles tournament as well as teams, I’m definitely coming. I’ll even enter Guilty Gear so I can get owned in that game.

Lucas stop posting in this thread man.

SRK is raping your shit right now.

Not to mention I saw your green rep go red in like 2 seconds last night no lie.

Got negged straight to hell and back. LOL.

If just insulting someone but not proving them wrong on anything and being worse at the game being discussed is “getting raped” then I guess you’re right.

I’m not going to care what angry random people at this board think of me, so I’m not going to get scared off.

The person in charge of Brawl apparently has a brain.

By this logic, choosing different characters should be banned, because it inherently gives one play an advantage no matter what. Only mirror matches should be allowed. This is the ‘fair’ game you are looking for. You are so ignorant it hurts.

The TRUTH is that you are AFRAID of losing, so instead of learning how to deal with luck-of-the-draw, you run crying like a child. Many, many competitive games, including fighters, have luck-of-the-draw features/moments. YOUR community is the only one I know of that bans it (and you are NOT the only ones with the ability to ban it. Why do these children think smash is the only game with system direction menus?).

LOL!

SRK hate smash Lucas. Don’t come to SRK advocating how smash “should” be played competitively.

The only thing that older heads respect is skill.

There is a reason why evo peeps were impressed with melee. It’s cause they saw the skill of the community.

SRK is about respect and showing what you are made of. Everyone knows that SRKers love to start e-drama but IRL, it just comes down to how dedicated you are. They like to start e-drama cuz they don’t take the internet seriously. Why should they? It’s the fucking internet. lol.

So even if they hate the game, they will respect it’s community if they show dedication and skillful play.

So show them Inui. Hit top 5 with all thier rules and earn some respect. Cuz honestly your actions right now are partially negating the respect that the smash community earned at last years Evo tournies.

Talk is cheap and the internets is for lulz.

Fight with your skill, not with your mouth.

And try using that ‘skill’ to learn the actual, whole game, instead of banning everything that looks ‘cheap’.

Is japan showing up this year again or not?

stop feeding the troll please. k thx.

Explain

“The second will be from an interview with Planet Zero representatives in order to determine which players will be adequately able to fully represent us both in skill and presentation while in Japan.”

“The winning team is not the sole contestant for the spot. Finishing high up in the tournament is not a must but recommended.”

^_^;

WTF!?

This has to be the most homo shit I have ever heard in my life.
Maybe this should be the standard for all tournaments, while your at it lets just give the money to the person who gets last place.
I thought we were done with these kind of shinanagens, I guess it’s true that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
I was wondering why I hadn’t heard anything about the SBO quals and it seems like too much of a coincidence that this info was posted almost 30 days prior to the actual event, making it nearly impossible for most players outside of the usual to make it to this anime conviention. Why wasn’t this posted on srk, this is the first I’m hearing of it and I live in houston, not everyone checks that other forum. So it would make sense to have this properly advertised to ensure the U.S. would be adiquately represented. I guess it dosen’t matter if you traveled half way across the U.S. to compete, and enen if you win the tourny that doesn’t qualify you as a good player. (I thought we were done with the whole my way or the high-way thing, guess not.) And even if you are considered for a SBO spot, no, you would have to come half-way across the U.S. yet again for an interview. Why? I guess someone finally got their wish, “Skill doesn’t matter”

This isn’t meant to be offensive in any way and this is only my opinion and mine alone, but yes Please Explain.

I am currently talking to John (emotiongear) about this on this thread http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?p=227677#post227677

but I would very much like him to clarify this here as well. Honestly I think it would be wise to reconsider having SBO quals at showdown so soon before SBO and on such sort notice in addition to being so close to Final Round. I was also under the impression that the interview would be on the same weekend as Showdown. Making players fly out for a second time should not be required.

The item debate appears to be over. Items aren’t allowed in the rules that were posted.

Not in 1v1. We’re going over the possibility of using them in teams. They will 100% be allowed in the FFA though. We’ll have the official rule sets up on Sat. here: http://www.mashharder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2720

I dare you to say that at EVOEast. Actually…no please don’t. It wouldn’t be pretty:rofl:

And IF Brawl is at EVO, whatever rules they have stick with it.

P.S

SRK TAKING OVER BRAWL!! LIVE WITH IT!

I’d highly recommend not allowing them in teams as well, since it will turn into a chaotic mess and promote camping even more.

I don’t care about FFA’s as long as teams and singles get good rules and are double elimination.

Oh, I’ve experienced how insane Marvel players are. Some of you hate your own game, make astromomical bets on it akin to a down payment on a house, and even engage in physical confrontations over it.

I plan on just getting top 8 in Smash again. If they don’t have Smash, I’ll still enter GG for fun and hang out with friends.
