Showdown Championships 2008 - Houston, Tx, March 21-23

Showdown Championships 2008

First off, I would like to apologize for the late announcement, but we were trying to iron out details in full before posting this thread. Once again we will be holding Showdown Championships in collaboration with the Anime Matsuri convention. It will be held at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center on Easter weekend, March 21-23, 2008. For those keeping track of the tournament season, it was not our intention to compete or step on Final Round?s toes. When Final Round was announced, we also had just finalized details for our venue. It is regrettable that both our events are a week a part, but it was not our purpose to draw away from Final Round. That being said, in a perfect world, I would love to see players be able to attend both events, but I know that would be extremely hard for most.

This year we?ve returned with some tweaks and improvements from our event last year. Our official lineup features 6 games: Marvel vs Capcom 2, Street Fighter III ? 3rd Strike, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Melty Blood Act Cadenza V.B2, and last but not least, Tekken 6! We will still have team events for our main event, but we are also having singles tournaments for ALL games as well. Only Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Marvel vs Capcom 2 will be singles tournaments. In addition to those tournaments, the convention will have a console gaming room, as well as a Planet Zero Arcade area featuring most of the cabinets and games from the arcade. As stated from www.animematsuri.com, the console area (Ninja Room) will feature tournaments as well for the following games: Capcom vs SNK 2, Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Tekken Dark Resurrection. Tournaments will also be held for the following: Naruto EX2, Mario Strikers Charged, Guitar Hero 3, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Dragonball Z Tenkaichi 3, and Halo 3.

Entry into Showdown Championships this year consists of purchasing an Anime Matsuri pass. They can be bought online at AnimeMatsuri.com, or in person at Planet Zero Anime Center. It?s currently $40 to purchase a pass, $48 at the door. Entry into to ALL Showdown Championships tournaments is FREE! There will be an entry fee separate from the Anime Matsuri pass for the console tournaments. That being said, we fully encourage people to sign up early and buy their passes NOW to ensure seeding in the tournament, and possibly in some cases to be able to enter the event. Other events going on at the convention are Live Concert at Main Events, Club AM, a night club event featuring Bespa Kumamero and Aural Vampire as the musical acts and Import Reactor, a Japanese Import Car show featuring Jeri Lee and Masuimi Max as special guests.

  3. Game breaking glitches, ie. Ones that freeze the game, reset the game, are forbidden and will result in forfeiture of the match.
  4. If you sign up online, you will be e-mailed your schedule for pool play as well as given one when you pick up your badge for the convention.
  5. If you sign up at the convention, you must report to the Showdown Championships room in order to receive your schedule.
  6. Each player must report to their assigned Pool Play time by the time their name is called for roll call. Roll call is conducted by the tournament official 5 minutes after the hour and will immediately start the pool once it is completed. Once the pool starts, if you miss roll call, you have until when your match is called before you are automatically forfeited to the losers bracket. No warnings will be given after roll call. If you fail to show up when your losers bracket match is called, you are DQ?ed.
  7. Exceptions to being DQ?ed will be up to the discretion of the Tournament judges and officials.
  8. For the Semi Final round, it will begin promptly at 9pm. Once again a roll call when be implemented and the same rules apply as pool play in regards to tardiness.
  9. Teams Tournament begin promptly at 11am and will run in quadrants. The bracket as well as quadrant assignments will be available for viewing on Saturday morning before the start of the tournament.
  10. The Team Tournament brackets are going to be split into 4 quadrants and each will take approximately 1.5 hours.

  12. If there are any equipment issues regarding malfunctioning buttons, sticks, screen, or sound, stop play immediately and inform a judge. It will be at the judge?s discretion to decide what course of action to take from there.
  13. Double blind pick is available and must be called by one player or the other prior to picking your characters. Alert the judge that you want to have a double blind pick. Double blind pick is where one player whispers what character(s), groove, etc they are going to pick to a judge. Then the other player goes ahead and picks his character(s), groove, etc. Then the whispering player must stick to what character(s), groove, etc he told the judge.
  14. Players must stick to one character only during the Team Tournaments. You are allowed to pick different characters for the Singles Tournaments.

  15. During Singles, the winner of the game must choose the same team for the next game in a 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 5 set.

That being said, I hope players will come out and have a good time at the event meanwhile we will be working as hard as we can to ensure that they do.

Sounds like fun, not quite sure yet if I’ll be able to make it though

Damn, I would love to get in there and play some Guilty Gear but with it being so close to Final Round (like the next weekend) I don’t know if it can happen. We’ll see though, maybe I’ll get lucky at work and have the extra money.

How much for Halo tourny?

Wow. Dirty.

DO WANT.

are the japanese gonna be there

or can they not afford the plane ticket

Which airport is nearest to the arcade?

The arcade? You mean Planet Zero? Cause this is for the convention which is not being held at the arcade. It will be closed and most of its cabinets will be at the convention in the Woodlands. In that case, the closest airport would be Bush Intercontinental(IAH).

sooo…who’s coming?:wonder:

Updated Registration link, you can now sign up for Showdown Tournaments as well.

Can I just register so I pay $40 and register for the tourney the day off?

Day of the tournament the price jumps up to $48, the $40 for a pass is if you register online.

http://www.stage6.com/animematsuri/video/2224550/Showdown-Championships

Yea I know but lets say I do online reg and I only reg for mvc2. Can I register for ST the day off the con?

All tournaments are free at Showdown. Just need to buy your badge. So, in a sense, yeah I guess you could do that.

I have a few questions.

Will there be pools play for Brawl? Will there be Brawl teams? Must I register online somewhere to enter the tournaments? I don’t want the pass thing. I only want to just enter Guilty Gear and Brawl and do nothing else. That’s fine, yes?

You’re gonna have to buy a pass

The tournaments being held at an anime convention has me scared. Those are often garbage due to them being retarded and having single elimination with no seeding or pools and there’s often a lack of set-ups.

Is this going to happen, or is it actually worth traveling to and paying the $40 to get in? I’d like to be guaranteed that Guilty Gear and Brawl will be real tournaments.

Seriously, read/re-read the first post.
These will be REAL tournaments

If people are playing in the console tournaments and the arcade tournaments, are they going to have to go back and forth to separate rooms? I want to enter random games in the console tournament as well as the arcade tournaments, so I just want to see if I have to be running back and forth to make sure I didn’t get eliminated by not being there.
