Props for leaving smash balls on. Im glad you guys are being original and thoughtful with your rules then just outright banning things, just because sentiments carry over from certain games. Inui, i respect that you are trying to change things, but for the most part im sure they have already come to the conclusion for most of their ruleset.
In the end, its what the tournament organizers says that goes, and at least they are putting thought into this, and am sure they will (and have) give reasons why certain things are.
if you play on a pad its almost impossible to RC w/o a shortcut.
if you play on a stick you can see for yourself that the timing is the hard part, and not pressing 3 buttons instead of one. so shortcuts don’t give unfiar advantages, it just allows pad players to play on tournaments as well.
Emblem Lord, why in God’s name would you not agree with me about banning final smashes? Last I checked, you’re a real player.
I’m not going to attend this tournament if items are on and you don’t have proper stage and tournament rules in general. You people do not know more about Smash than I do, and you are not better than me if you can say retarded nonsense like “Fox sucks with items” and you can’t understand how certain stages are too unbalanced to be allowed. Items are unbalanced simply based on them appearing at random places, giving the person closest to them an advantage. Many final smashes also automatically give the player a stock advantage, or more, and nothing can be done about it.
I don’t think your opponent stalling under a stage and running away the entire time means you put yourself in a bad situation at all. It’s not under your control.
Smash is a party game, so many changes must be made to make it as competitive as other fighters.
Smashboards bans stuff because we know what we’re doing.
Sounds fun, but I’m not spending $50 to lose in Guilty Gear and then enter singles and doubles in a Brawl tournament with horrendous scrubby anime convention rules.
so what if your opponent runs away for 5 minutes? Running away has always been a legit tactic in any fighting game. You see Storm in Marvel or Bridget/Faust/even Testament in GG. Characters that have the means to runaway by all means can.
You think i enjoy having to chase people down just to fight them? Not really, but i put up with it, because they cant run away forever. At a point, youll catch up to them, and then whatever happens, you have to make sure you make smart choices, so they dont just shield throw you and start running away again.
Its nice that you know so much, but last i checked, knowledge doesnt equal skill, especially in a game thats not even been out for a month. Adjust to the rules, or dont play, simple as that.
Other fighters have tiny stages. Smash has several gigantic ones where you can camp under platforms or the entire stage sometimes, which makes running away even more broken. You don’t see this? Please chase my Fox with Bowser on PokeFloats and see if you can ever touch me.
In Smash, you can. Jigglypuff in Melee can go under FD back and forth forever, for instance. Captain Falcon cannot be caught by another character since his dash speed is too fast.
Knowledge equals me knowing what is balanced and fair and what isn’t. As for skill, I’m former 10th in the tristate(NJ/PA/NY) and former 3rd in NJ, as well as one of the top 8 placers at EVO East, and all of these are gigantic accomplishments considering we have hundreds and hundreds of Smashers in each area, and that’s already more than the entire national scene for many games here. I’d say I’m skilled. You guys have already made it apparent that you’re highly inexperienced in competitive Smash.
“fox sucks with items”
“running away the whole time isn’t broken”
“no stages should be banned”
"final smashes should be allowed"
etc.
Just proves that you don’t know what you’re talking about.
I’m not going to spend that money to enter a tournament with bad rules that will never be adopted by the real Smash tournament scene. I know this is SRK and you guys don’t know jack about Smash for the most part, but you really should take what a real tournament player says into consideration. I’m not spouting off nonsense and I can back up what I say.
NOTHING has been said to back up smashballs being on and the stages we have banned being on.
Sounds fun? So do you accept the money match?
Remember its only between you and me.
And these tournament is hosted by people who actually know fighting games, so I don’t where you go off listed this one as just another convention.
Sounds like to me that Melee is the only competitive game you even play.
With that said, how about we not only money match in Brawl, but money match at any other Fighting game. You choice, and we can see what we can do about it, ok?
How about it? ;o
If I even go, which I’m not with the horrible rules.
They may know other fighting games, but so do I. They do not know Smash. It’s been made apparent by several factually wrong statements being made and the horrendous ruleset that was decided upon.
No, I play Guilty Gear and one of my best friends, Rigel, plays other fighters competitively and he keeps me educated on such things.
I’ll do one in Guilty Gear for less money, but like I said, I’m not spending the money to enter this venue with the horrendous rules being used for Brawl. Sorry, but I’m going to stick with actual Smashboards tournaments that have real and fair rules because we actually know what we’re doing.
I’ve explained why things are banned and why those rules are fair, but it all went over your heads.
You know, i could just go back and forth with you, but hey, im not. The fact of the matter is, im not trying to unban stages (which dugfinn hasnt listed her choices of stages yet) or smashballs, your trying to ban them. Youve given your argument, but in the end its up to the tournament director.
And yes, Im aware Jigglypuff can endlessly float around with her side b, it must be a nice incentive considering she is terribly light, and coincidentally the slowest character in Brawl. You have a right to bring up Melee as points, since that is the game you are most familiar with, but the fact of the matter is, this is Brawl.
Its still the same in the sense that it is still Smash, but the fact remains that its wiser to give things a try longer then less then a month.
Opinion, son.
What do you even know about Brawl? I got no doubt I can take you out ;o
What do you know about other fighting games?
We know more about Smash than you think, we just know how to put up against random BS that happens in smash and every other game.
We don’t whine about it, we find ways around it.
Really now?
And who is this guy and is he willing to go on with some money matches? lol.
With that said, that could be said about anyone. What if the person making these rules is best friends with some of the guys who set the rules for MLG?
Durrrr, I dunno :looney:
Cool, ok!
But Guilty Gear is not the only game on my list, btw ;o
The tournament director is wrong if they don’t ban items and certain stages.
I’m very much aware that this is Brawl, however, the same camping strategies apply but even more so due to the new floaty engine and the stages being larger in general.
No. It’s very, very apparent that certain things are broken right off the bat. Smashballs being one of those things, as well as retarded stages like the Wario Ware one. That stuff doesn’t take deep analysis to realize.
I’ve already taken 4th out of 26 teams in a Brawl tournament, taking out a team with Wes on it, outplacing two teams that have had the game since its Japanese release, and almost beating the two teams that got 1st and 2nd. I’m also one of about 4 Pit players in the Pit board that has any idea what they’re talking about right now.
None of that changes the fact that items and certain stages give gigantic advantages to certain characters and unbalance the game. It doesn’t matter how much skill you have if you’re playing on FD and a smashball suddenly appears next to your opponent. You just lost a stock based 100% on luck and not any sort of skill. The fact that you can’t see this is insane. Can you imagine playing a match in Guilty Gear against Slayer, and suddently a Bunny Hood pops up in front of him and then he combos you to death instantly because he’s too fast to stop and has huge damage already?
I sincerely doubt anyone here is friends with Bach, JV3x3, or M3D, because they’d be telling you the same things I am.
Prove it.
Items add huge amounts of luck and appear randomly.
Smashballs instantly give the person that is lucky enough to be near it an entire stock advantage.
Stages like the Wario Ware and the new Pokemon one that slows down time and shit are totally retarded because they explode on you, attack you, and move around in retarded manners.
Camping is broken because the stages are larger and characters are more mobile than in other fighters.
You can’t see this, which is insane. A monkey can see how terrible items are.
Regardless of how silly you think the rules I posted are, those are likely to be the rules the real Smash tournament scene will use, and our scene is as large as every other scene here combined. W00t.
Remember though, she hasnt stated what stages would be played on though and she did say that some stages would be removed from play. For all you know, Wario Ware (for the people who dont know, random minigames pop up, and if you win them, you get a buff, either health regen’d, a mushroom increase in size, or invincibility), or Rumble Falls (where getting trapped under the stage as its going up can be reall annoying or getting knocked into almost instant death spikes scattered across the course) are removed.
and considering items, they arent downright turning them all off or on, but weeding through them and giving some of them a fair chance, including smash balls.
They appear randomly at random places, giving the person closer to the item an advantage that said player did not have to obtain through skill or ability.
Smashballs are the most broken because it’s an automatic stock advantage for the person lucky enough to have it appear near them.
Thank you.
Would you guys want items on in Marvel or GG? Didn’t think so.
