If you said no to banning CE I’ve got to question if you’ve actually played the game against other people, its VERY apparent VERY quickly that CE is broken as hell, allowing CE in tournament makes it playing CE with Alpha graphics, because no one in their right mind would still pick A2 or A3 at all ever if they enjoyed having a shot at winning, and A1 is really borderline on the best characters. There is a big difference between something being top tier and broken, this is broken completely. Lets say this, the worst CE character is still better than 95% of the rest of the cast,
Also something I dont think CE Bison is the best CE character, some of his hitboxes get screwed because of the sprite, I think CE Sagat is top, 1 dp and blocked fireball = 40%

I’ve played CE, and yeah I think it dominates. But the problem is, until it’s shown that there is no way around them, then it shouldn’t be banned. It definitely HASN’T been shown that CE dominates the rest of the cast for free, simply because there hasn’t been any major tourneys yet.
I think what people get upset about is its supposed to be an alpha series game, and the HSFA mode is dominated by non Alpha characters. If we ban CE, won’t A1 be the new top tier? How can you justify choosing one top tier over another? Because you want alpha characters? I don’t get it.
A1 doesn’t kill you in 3-5 button presses. Jump roundhouse -> standing roundhouse is a ToD for fuck’s sake.
I’m sure they can be beaten, just like a Shoto team in MvC2 can win… but will they win very often?
I think it’s the fact that people don’t want it to be a CE-only game. You’d just be making it hard for yourself if you picked anything but CE. “Oh jesus please let me land an air-to-air counterhit for the infinte”
I think people forgot why things are banned. What everyone thinks is irrelavant at this point, if SFAA was at every major and treated like a main game, and all the real tactics were developed at the same level as CE, then maybe we could even begin to have this discussion…
How many people have A3 mastered at the level the top USA players did when they were in practice and playing? How many people are using the new A2 features and CCs to their fullest, not to menion the old A2 characters? How many people even know everything that was in A1?
Any tourney now is not nessecarily represenative of top tier SFAA play, even if you had a tourney with all the current top tier players, it wouldn’t be represenative of top tier SFAA play a year from now, or 2 or 3.
It’s also not the same to just compare to the old top A3/A2 players, it’s a different game, maybe CE mops up on V-sak, V-akuma, A2 Rose, but loses bad to some DS characters or A1 somebody, we can’t tell at this point.
Wouldn’t it make sense then that the simplest mode should win at this point in time? Wasn’t that true with every SF game? I mean really, people who aren’t even winning tournies now used to get 50-100 streaks with teams that aren’t winning now in serious casual play, in CvS2 some crazy R3/R1 and R4 teams were winning tournies IIRC.
IMO if anyone is taking this CE thing seriously right now, they just probably just forgot what it’s like to play a newly released SF game.

I think what you and FMJ are just talking about is just theory fighter. imo, any random scrub has a chance when they have ce-ism vs any of the old a1-a3 top tiers, it’s really dumb…i think that people arguing against the ban are just theory fighting at this point. but evo should be a good indicator of how broken ce ism is if anything, because of course i could be wrong. but i think its going to be funny when the old a1/a2/a3 players lose to scrubby ce-ism tactics just because the risk/reward is so damn broken. but well see.
Cmon. Get over it. Since when did banning everything that might throw off the “balance” of a game become popular? Hell, while we’re at it, let’s ban all the Street Fighter 2 characters in CvS2, all the Marvel characters in MvC2, Ken/Yun/Chun Li in 3S, Gato/Kula/Oswald in KOFXI, and every other top tier character in every other game there is. He’ll, why don’t we just say “ok, this year’s CvS2 tourney for Evo only uses K-Groove and can only play as King, Ryo, Athena, Terry and Kim…everyone else is broken and glitchy :(:(:(:(:(”
Seriously, the game is broken or it isn’t. Banning specific -Isms, characters and worst of all, moves/combos is just plain stupid.
I have to say that I dislike anything that dumbs the gameplay down.
CE-ism seems like less effort for the same results.
The point isn’t that a CE Bison didn’t win the tournament, but the fact that those CE Bisons likely took out a lot of better players, and the fact the character by default, makes a lot of the roster un-viable for tournament play.
Stuff like this gives scrubs a chance to do way better than they really should.
That turns it into a match-up game like ST though, and I don’t know if I like that.
I think it’s sad that we’ve gotten so desperate for a new fighter that we’ll start hosting tournaments for stuff that’s obviously broke as shit.

Things get banned when it is shown through tournament results that it is unfair and unbalanced when compared to the rest of the game. We haven’t had any major tourneys for this, and until we do, they should not be banned. Hell, WW characters in HSF AE had easy ass dizzies, but evo didn’t go and ban them did they?

The fact is, you can’t draw the line of whats acceptable and whats not without time. If MvC2 banned cable when the game came out, would it have evolved to the level its at now?
