Weird that people think that Sabre and Valle had never played against each other prior to Evo. I face those mix-ups regularly, and no matter how many times you see it you will still get caught, ESPECIALLY in the heat of the moment, and the hype.
All great picks in my opinion. I will say how impressed I was at VDO vs Potter, but I gotta give it to Scooter! Being there, seeing the crowd go insane, and being a part of the insanity brings it home for me. Plus it’s AZ, gotta give it up for the home team
I hate to say it (and I’ll probably get flamed for it), but those SF4 finalists are not necessarily the best of the year. I don’t know what happened to the hype-inducing bouts such as Mike Ross @ SBO Qualifiers or Makoto versus Tokido and OjisanBoy at SBO. As for Akimo versus Guile, try finding Akimo versus Daigo or hell Tomuson versus Daigo. It may sound like I’m biased due to Honda, but Akimo is up there and I’m just saying that’s not the best Akimo (or Honda) match this year. And Makoto Vega is so beastly that he’s just been voted number 2 in a Japanese poll.
Come on, Keits. lol.
EDIT: Just to clarify, I don’t mean that those matches (or players) are bad. They are indeed worthy of being nominated. However, there are just a few that outshine the SF4 choices (except for Valle versus Sabre of course).
Come on what? All I did was take the nominations that met the rules and formed a small committee to narrow them down to 6 finalists.
Officially sick of people who were too lazy to nominate their favorites blaming me for their favorites not being here.
That said, AGAIN, ive heard your complaints and next year’s contest will be very different. This time, we are just testing the waters to see if people would like this kind of thing. Its clear that you do, but some of you are taking this far too seriously.
I didnt nominate any matches at all, im just trying to organize this for those of you who are interested. Stop acting like I personally snubbed your favorites. People everywhere are going to disagree with eachother on this no matter which matches get put up there. All I can say, again, is that you guys should participate more next time.
I guess you’re right about the submissions… plus the thing about this being a prototype.
Like you said, it just feels a bit unpolished that’s all. Maybe next time you could just choose the nominees from your committee in the first place? Just a thought.
SF3 3s: Momochi (Makoto) vs K.O (Yang) [at SBO 2009] showed a lot of skill for both. very nice. As far as VDO you should have seen him at final round hes nuts. I think a lot are looking at the games played and not the skill of the match. Then again I nominated a BB match lol.
I see a lot of you enjoy the VDO match, but thats no reason to down-rep me saying “VDO VDO” because I chose valle vs sabre, I just havn’t played MvC2 and don’t really know to much about it… On the other hand I quite enjoyed the valle vs sabre match more so than the rest… So don’t hate…
I feel like a lot of people are underrating the Akimo / Fujisawa match on the basis that it wasn’t a ridiculous comeback or a complete beasting. I look at it from the perspective that it is a match completely exemplary of how each character is supposed to approach the other. It’s a match filled with text book smart play on both sides. The pivotal point where Akimo has Fujisawa pinned in the corner doing an excellent job of keeping close and Fujisawa comes back with that clutch dash up ultra taking a calculated risk that demonstrates a keen understanding of the opponents tendencies and his characters abilities. This is a match that is ok to watch, but after you get done playing it it’s one of those, “Holy shit that was why I play fighting games” scenarios. That’s why I voted for it.
How in the fuck did that Honda vs. Guile match up get there. The Honda vs. Honda match where they don’t move for an entire round was more exciting than that bullshit.
Results weren’t hidden when I posted. After watching all the vids, none of them seemed too great for me. I voted for Sakura just because she’s an underrated character.
