Shoryuken.com Match of the Year 2009 Finalists - Cast Your Vote Before 1-2-10!

Ken busted out that infinite… and last second win by time out! Hype.

VDO vs. Potter ftw

It was pretty tough for my top two choices

Between Valle and Sabre, and the VDO vs Potter

It’s easily gotta be Fujisawa (HO) vs. Akimo (GU)

I never knew Guile even had an ultra!

:stuck_out_tongue:

VDO vs POTTER, was by FAR the best video there. low tier comeback, mega skills

Watching VDO play MvC2 is like art in motion. I love it when he thwomps on Broke tier bums! GO VDO!

your #1 VDO-ite fan!

SabrE all day

I wouldve swung at Potter If I was VDO, that takes crazy patience and skill to deal with that run away bull. The way he was dodging and moving it was like that Ryu vs. Scorpion animation lol.

It got my vote, that mess was such a bullcrap matchup.

I really wanted to vote for Momochi vs. KO. But the above was just such an uphill battle.

Alex Valle got played by Sabre lol. Wasn’t match of the year worthy tho it was a crazy upset.

The guile vs Honda i loved. So much skill. But it was just too boring

TVC…Tired of seeing Karas whore the game. Ryu is hax in Baroque. Great survival but it wasn’t shit i haven’t seen.

truth be told the finalists coulda been a lil better.

Valle Vs. SabrE here. That mix-up was very well done, proves that it doesn’t always have to be about the higher tiers but rather how a player utilizes said character.

lol…which the VDO/Potter match displays even better. And without the use of random guessing game mixups on VDO’s end. just pure simple patience and skill with a matchup that’s even worse than the valle/sabre match…

I’m not sure how they put SBO matches from DVD when they were so anal about posting copyrighted links in other threads…is there some change in policy I’m not aware of regarding SBO posting?

Sabre’s match was nice but I feel he abused Valle’s lack of knowledge there (and no, I don’t think Valle played shitty there at all).

Fujisawa vs. Akimo was only a good match in the last round…the rest of the match was pretty boring and not much going on.

VDO vs. Potter…it was cool but my knowledge of MvC2 is really limited so I can’t appreciate it as much as other matches.

Momochi vs. KO, I don’t really consider to be a great match. Momochi is a beast though.

I voted for Dashio vs. Shiro.

vdo vs potter hands down.

it aint over till its over

VDO shawty!

I just wanted to jump in and say WTF for the TvC match of the year being a month 1 kubo Karas casual match. I mean, it was a pretty nice comeback and all, but seriously…

Should have nominated something better during the nomination period. Many people complaining now failed to participate in the nomination process.

MvC2 was probably most hype or whatever…but meh

True enough. I kind of wanted to, but I didn’t see how it would have been really worth it though, since who’s going to vote for TvC anyways?

Good nominees, but as far as exciting games go I’m surprised one of Yeb’s matches from West Coast Warzone didn’t get nominated.

Not even close to this video…

I mean seriously, how often do you see the crowd chanting a player’s name after his match?

edit: I guess there was no single match that was overly exciting and worthy of nomination, but him introducing Gen to the world was one of the top moments of the year along with Justin vs Daigo for the first time in a brand new SF game.

As far as exciting displays of high skill in single matches go… the most skillful display has to be Fujiwara’s Guile, and I think if that was played by an American in an American tournament it would probably win the poll. Sabre vs Valle will win instead… and it’s deserving too, that’s one hell of a match.

yes, damn. I thought yeb vs floe would’ve surely gotten voted. now that is something for sure. solid solid play by yeb and hype as hell! yes, floe probably didn’t know how to fight gen at the time, but at least it wasn’t just a series of coin flips.

Hah, now I remember one of the battle field arcadia streams where some guy, I think his name was Rolan, picked Sakura and Chris Hu was just like, “Sakura? Do notin. Quik dat charactur plz”

EDIT: Oh wait…that was against you right? damn.

The VDO vs Potter match had everything you could want in a Match of the year: A clear cut underdog, almost insurmountable odds, that never give up attitude, and a super close win at the end (I couldn’t believe the 00)
