Sharpening my claws.. Vega(Claw) Wants/Needs

You know what you guys can do now? Put the people who you think are trolling/flaming/derailing the thread on your ignore list. Good idea, yeah? This nonsense needs to stop now.

I said landing the izuna drop 5 times in a row is only capable on scrub sagats. Try to pay attention.

I love the contradiction here. Izuna drops are needed for a win against Sagat, yet Makoto beat one with using nothing but raw ground games? Nice one.

Also I’m pretty sure that I play against a good Sagat. He happened to beat Mike Ross in a tournament (ev1llee). So unless you still think I play against bad Sagats or think Mike Ross is a scrub, please be quiet.

Please tell me what is more scary, seeing someone run away into a corner (backflip) or knowing that if you jump in on wake-up or mash meaties on wake-up you’re going to get a ST to the face, making you re-think your strategy.

Absolutely. The best part besides useless ultra, useless normals, useless specials is Capcom was thoughtful enough to let me lose my claw and mask when im getting my ass pounded…as if i wasnt already gimped enough! Genius design!

cr.mp is nice

Like you do tothat Ryu in your replay. LOL!

You mean this replay? lol

I usually don’t go for repeated walldives against Ryu, but this guy had no idea what to do.

Here’s another of a Sagat I faced

Things I want:

-faster walk speed
-better normals
-reliable anti-air normal
-comboable Ultra
-slighty more meter built after whiffing FBA (seems like the current meter built is a bit lacking)

That’s it… I don’t even care about a faster RCF. Even if it is faster, it won’t be useful anyways. Why would you want to be face to face against characters such as Ryu or Sagat with Vega anyways?

They dont have that long anymore i think… if the game is heading for a april 1 release , the game needs to done late februari or early march… then it needs to proceed to microsoft and sony for certification process, needs to be rated… if approved be printed and shipped etc.

The question is from what date the build at Vegas was. Builds they bring to events are usually a lot earlier then current.

In any case, this discussion will not impact what Capcom is gonna do anyway its not an official capcom poll where votes for or against invul ST is gonna go in the game…its just what we WISH for… so i dont understand all the hostility towards eachother on this thread!

We all main/play the same character , lets be civil and friendly to eachother… not claw our way to hating eachother!
Vega himself would not think this thread was BEAUTIFULL :bgrin:

That’s pretty much true - I don’t think anyone will be able to modify/add/remove whatever changes Capcom deem necessary for our favorite psychopath yet classy fighter.
Here’s hoping they somehow made him decent for SSF4.

That’s the one!! I was looking through the new replay list yesterday and there’s loads of Claw matches in the top 200. Your’s is perhaps the most impressive, but T Boy UK’s one (no. 165, I think) is definitely the funniest. The taunt-into-ultra at the end is brilliant!

Ps: Just checked out the Sagat vid. Again very impressive stuff!

Wow this thread fucking went downhill fast.

Thank you very much. I usually don’t backflip as much as I did against the Sagat but the guy had no idea how to punish it properly. As for taunts, the funniest thing to do is the #2 taunt against boxer from full screen. They usually charge in with an EX dash punch which leaves you to easily punish with ultra.

Good shit dude! =)

@darkfroggy, I never said the better flips would solve everything. honestly I’d rather they move back a little further but have a slightly better recovery time. I’m more or less still in the line of thought that Vega’s handicap should be a poor wakeup game. EVen with an EX ST it would be bad still. Probably bottom 5 still.

I dunno, it’s hard for me to think what’s desirable anymore. In some instances I think holy shit there was nothing I could do and I was just in the corner for like 45 seconds defending myself until I finally succumbed to a beatdown. Then there’s other times when I find myself easily getting out of people’s offensive rushdowns. I won’t deny that there are strong arguments for EX ST by Fouts, Prof, and EmblemLord and BrentoBox, among others, but I think that it’s hard to say at this point what exactly is going to become of SSF4. I still think Vega could get way better normals and zoning game also. the one thing that annoys me the most is in some matches I just can’t make one mistake. i’'m not talking about guessing wrong, but just a botched combo / input that causes me to get owned for the rest of the match. An EX ST would help in only certain instances though, as you’d still get cross up’d all the time. on top of having to hold the charge, you’d be pretty suspectible to overheads after blocking their cross up. I don’t know if people can really respect only one viable EX reversal. Vega’s rushdown is strong enough that maybe people would rather play more safely, but I really think that a stronger zoning game is more important at this point than what one EX move would do; it would cause people to hesitate, but I don’t think like EmblemLord says that people will respect it. The one thing I’m thinking about is, if Vega has an invincible ST, someone would try to bait it, and you’d flip on your wakeup while they didn’t expect it. that way you would have a way of backing off and just fucking with your opponent. It would be an interesting change in that regard.

like, I just played a Balrog and he didn’t use a single reversal EX headbutt on me on his wakeup. (MajorCrimson in SG) the normal headbutts he used would trade with my jump ins. I’m pretty sure some characters are in their own way severely fucked on wakeup as well but they still manage to get by. (Abel, Dhalsim) Some of the posters in here exaggerate just how bad it is being fucked on wakeup. There are only a few matchups where it really factors. Against Sagat, he can trap you, but it’s more the huge damage imbalance that is the problem. A heavy TU does 50 damage of chip, and without your mask that’s like 75 damage. Doomsday combo is like an instant kill if your mask is gone. Blanka isn’t really the same, it’s more that his lightning really fucks Vega up and his horizontal balls are really hard to punish; once he starts turtling with a life-lead you can’t touch him. there’s no range you can hang with Chun, etc. I think Vega’s biggest problem right now is the mask. It’s hard to notice but I bet if I could go back and watch some of my losses I lose a lot more health to that than I notice.

So at this point I think that yeah an EX ST with invinc. would be good but he’d still be close to free on wakeup. I think you guys think it’s worth more than it really is. I’d rather be actually capable of anti-airing people with normals so I could still stay mobile as well. If he were faster, all the better. At this point I always run away cause anti-airing people always trades. with a couple better tools that would change a lot in itself.

The hell? Sagat does a deep uppercut and you’re fucked. Last time I checked, you can’t damage or throw people out of invulnerability frames. For the 6-7th frames of Tiger Uppercut, Sagat is vulnerable but cannot be thrown.

What kind of terrible Sagats are you guys playing that get Izuna Dropped 5 or 6 times in a row? If things got bad, he could just EX-Tiger Uppercut out.

My god, the Izuna “loop” is so good that the Sagat matchup is 4-6 or even 5-5 for Vega!

heh I have a replay up of me mocking a rufus player taking my claw off a bunch, he missed his ultra combo like 3 times. Good stuff

@ dark froggy

if you’re doing the loop right (coming down on top of his head) his uppercut is as likely to hit you as it is to come out in the completely wrong direction. you’re free to punish again. like i said backdash is the only smart thing to do, but even that can be baited easily, or simply taken care of by the claw swipe. an uppercut is hardly a reliable option. I’d indeed argue that the match is 6-4 for Sagat instead of 7-3 like people think it is because the izuna vortex is a powerful tool that sagat is highly susceptible to.

I think people are getting confused on things here. The people that want invincibility on st or ex st arent saying that that’s the ONLY thing he needs, they are saying that it’s IMPORTANT. Which i totally agree with 100%. And for the others arguing about giving him better priority on pokes and other things, yes, of course he needs that too. So, why try to bash on each other?

Right now, the way he is… he needs a better EVERYTHING.

It’s a discussion thread on an Internet forum in 2010. Stuff like that always happens.
-_-

Saddest shit ever: After all this discussion on what vega needs, and the Invul ST debate with all that malice, if vega got nothing other than what he had in the vegas build.

So uh… how bout those Bloody High Claw buffs? I like his second ultra, but I’ve been recently catching people with BHC in SO many different ways. I’m starting to find it to be a damn good move right now. If it gets buffs(even just damage), I’ll probably be using BHC whenever I pick Vega (Except for against probably a few close range characters and Bison).

@FoutsKazuya: No.

I never said Vega’s design as it is now is good. Are you seriously questioning Capcoms knowledge of character design in general, just because there are some exceptions? Do you even think about what you write before you click on the “submit reply” button?

@Jeenyus:
The roll should be great because it’s one of the tools to chip the opponent and get him into the corner for positional advantage. At least that’s why I care about the roll.

And lastly, Buddha is right.
