Sharpening my claws.. Vega(Claw) Wants/Needs

That’s lame if you did that then it wouldn’t be vega.

Yes I agree. I love the arc on his jump as well and have never had a real problem with it. To tell you the truth Gen has a faster jump to. But to me if you can predict a persons jump then you can counter it with Vega’s jump.

There we go! I think he has a HIGHER jump without sacrificing speed to reach those distances! So he can get ON LEVEL with the opponent faster, or do silly things like jump over Goukens air fireballs.

I like Vega’s jump arc, but it’s no harder to DP than the other characters.

Gen’s jump is whacked though.

But he gets higher fast enough that you can trade a jumpback HP against a wakeup shoryu (since it has to travel more distance to hit Vega, and thus loses it’s invincibility by the time), which is nice, to me.

That’s more a property of j.hp than anything else.

Not sure if you want to trade hits with DP though  .

This.

I’m amazed at just how telegraphed a wall-dive is, and just how easy it is to beat. Jumping light jab/short? Jumping any normal for that matter? Air Tatsu? Air Throw? DP? Focus dash toward? Block then punish?

There are so many ways to beat the slash attack that I can’t understand why it’s only 90 damage. And most of the time you’ll be hitting the wall away from your opponent because if you go towards them they’ll jab you out of the air or punish as they wish while you sit on the wall for 20 minutes. Going to the away wall means they have plenty of time to recover from whatever they did then have plenty of time to beat your attack as they wish. It’s obvious it should only be used for an escape and the occasional strike when you happened to use it right before (psychic) they threw out a special and they can’t recover in time.

EX FBA, on the other hand…

His claw removal does have its jems! Without claw, your punches are actually faster! Try it, when Dictator keeps doing a cr.MP xx scissor kick repeatedly, you will never be able to jab him with a cr.LP. But without claw, you can! But What I really hate is how the range is soo dumb with claw. His s.SP is a joke. Even if the claw clearly stabs someone in the side it still doesn’t reach the hitbox. And his cr.MP has the same range (even further without claw).
He has no relaible reversals and a really sad anti-air.
His ultra is awesome and good by theory (MAXIMUM Vega muhahaha) but its useless solely because of its hitbox. Its a thin line that can only hit fireball spamers safely. Using the ultra against fireballers is already a huge mind game against Vega, we don’t need him to be mind gamed more.
Throwing his mask seems fine and all, its like making the match 10% faster in favor of the more skillful player. But with his current bad priorities and pressure strings, its a lose for him.

What he needs:
-A bigger Hitbox with his Ultra or give him his RED CLAW back as his Ultra (that would be sweet).

-A relaible reversal on his EX Scarlet terror. A hitbox that also sweeps crouchers from full range and invincibility.

-Super not flashing and not using stocks until it actually grabs like ST.

-df.MK a overhead! His characer specific overhead is not enough!

-His j.SP crossing up on all characters. It already can but the problem is, most characters have to walk back in a specific time at a specific place inorder to have Vega’s SP to be a cross-up. He needs a relaible cross up on everyone!

-His EX Sky High needs a longer hitbox so that he can do some cross-up mind games. Its pretty useless the way it is now even against fireball spamers. And his normal Sky High needs more hitstun. Sometimes it doesn’t pushes him far enough even if it hits clean and the opponent can just counter him when he lands.

-His super and EX Izuna Drop needs more range. That way, he can have more mind games.

-Fix the scroll bug. I hate it when he finds the wall too late when I do ultra and it misses then the opponent blocks it and counters with a Ultra of their own. Thats utter bs.

Just throwing this out there…

In the latest update where they discuss Cody, it’s mentioned that Cody can do chip damage with the knife, and that Vega can do the same with his claw. Now, maybe Vega can already do this in regular SF4 and I haven’t noticed since I don’t use Vega personally and haven’t fought against many Vegas, but that seems pretty cool to me.

ya i noticed that too , i guess theyll add that in SSF4
seems like BS though , coz unlike Cody , Vega starts the Match WITH the claw ! he doesnt need to go pick it up and whatnot

or maybe they just meant it adds range just like how Vega has extra range with the Claw …

It’s actually both. If Vega didn’t jump high enough in a short amount of time, Ryu would still be close enough to the ground to be invincible, and would flat out beat the jHP, instead of trade.

It’s a fun thing to do when he’s almost dead.

Also, they don’t mean chip damage. They just mean, poke at your opponent little by little and chipping away at that health bar with far pokes. Which is how I play Vega.

I don’t think of it as chipping away though. I think of it as more like very slowly cutting my opponent one small cut at a time. >=D

That might be the more likely case. But it would look odd if Vega couldn’t do chip damage now that there’s a character who can do it. Vega loses his claw pretty easily anyway, so I don’t think it would be a problem.

The dude is stabbing you and slashing you with three fuckin long blades attached to his fist…

You’d think he’d do a little more damage

Currently his close HP does as much damage as sakuras close HP.
that’s silly as fuck, to me.

That would be quite good if it is true.

…I actually think if the claw caused chipped damage it would be broken… Any normal that causes chip is ludicrous imo, especially with the range that Vega has. There are plenty of better ways to balance a character.

Agreed

And it doesn’t make any sense for Vega to do chip damage with his claw
That’s an insta-fix that won’t really do shit for Vega or for any of his bad matchups
Cody only does chip damage cause he loses the knife in one hit, would you like the same to happen with Vega? its pretty much pointless for vega to get chip damage with the claw, he’s got RCF for that purpose already anyway

I really don’t see anything wrong with Vega’s claws doing chip. He isn’t a Dhalsim, he isn’t going to zone with normals all day.

Vega should be a bit stronger than usual, he’s the only one in the cast that can be weakened. Why should he be equal to other characters at the start when he can lose his claw and mask? He gets shitty health and he loses one of his strongest gimmicks, ranged pokes.

I see Vega as a tempo character. If you go his tempo and get slowly poked, chipped, crossed-up, and izuna dropped to death, you lose. When you rush him down, with his claw and mask getting removed, things can go your way easily. Goes with the bull-fighting mentality. You’re tiring out the enemy slowly, keeping him under your tempo. That, or you get mauled by a thousand pound horned beast.

If Vega doesn’t end up getting chip on his normals, I won’t be salty neither. It’s a kick-ass gimmick, I gotta admit. But for Christ’s sake, he’s a Shadaloo member. He should be on par with the other tiger-spamming, glove-jabbing, psycho-crushing members. Here’s to hoping Vega will be awesome (not high tier) in his SSIV incarnation.

Seems like you could take the 2 or 3 good points of the character and just start again @_@

I’m not sure if this has gone around yet, but it seems relevant:

Its not wack if you know how to use it. Plus he can cross you over so easy with one of his kicks.

improvements needed imo

  • Invincibility frames on his flip kick (Think ST)

  • a safer wall dive (its stupid that its ultra punishable by most if not all the cast)

  • a buffed offense (this is where he needs the most, his damage output is pathetic compared to his other SF counterparts)

  • more difficult to knock items off (this system is fine, but it becomes way too easy to knock his equipment off)

  • piece of mercury an overhead (it makes no sense that its not anyways)

  • Larger izuna hitbox (doesnt have to be as large as it was in ST, just bigger than now)

  • Quicker wall dive (its too easily scouted now, the move is basically useless in SF4 unless you’re using meter)

  • Comboable ultra (you can combo his current ultra, but only off a FA crumple)

these few and simple buffs will return vega to his rightful glory.
