Sharpening my claws.. Vega(Claw) Wants/Needs

If it’s a Barcelona after an Izuna or slide, then it’s not a Barcelona loop, it’s just a single setup 50/50 for additional damage.

The problem was firing the Barcelona repeatedly, and ambiguously hitting each side. This was a 50/50 that led into itself and could be repeated until the other guy guessed right.

My point is that since the Barcelona is quick techable (not to mention FA/backdash/easier reversals) that the Barcelona loop wouldn’t even remotely be an issue compared to ST.

Yeah, that’s true.

Things that make sense to change:

  1. Fix his glitches.

  2. Dont allow Vega to be punished for hitting with SHC. It is stupid that if you HIT (as in they do not block) someone with this move, that they can ultra you back. This has happened to me before and it makes no sense. They can just make it knock down the opponent or increase the hitstun, or decrease the ending lag.

  3. Modify his close lk so that the hit box hits the opponent. Although I don’t use this move as much anymore, I used to hate missing a lk just because it did the close lk animation(which is when I am trying to do the normal lk) which has a hitbox that doesnt hit the opponent if you are too far away, even when they were standing right in front of you.

  4. Modify the hit box of BHC. There have been times where it looks like it will hit but just misses. Considering how difficult it is to hit with this move, and how weak it is, they should at least make the hitbox wider.

  5. Have an option on whether you can lose your mask/ claw during a fight. For those people who like to taunt and throw away their claw/mask, they should be able to. For those people who want to have their mask/ claw on throughout the fight should be able to as well. It makes no sense that such a low tier character like Vega should be penalized in a fight for blocking or getting hit (considering that his options to counter specific pressure is highly limited). He isn’t such a powerful character that requires such a penalty.

  6. Change something about FBA to make it slightly better. Either they should make no landing lag (or a lot less) IF you DON’T perform an attack OR they make it so that you can use Izuna drop on people out of their focus attacks.

Things that would be a BONUS change for Vega that is NOT necessary:

  1. Give him invincibility frames on ultra startup, or on EX scarlet terror.

  2. Make him faster in general.

  3. Make his BHC stronger.

  4. Change the motion on how to do BHC jaja (im fine with the way it is, but making it easier for other people should be ok I guess).

  5. Make piece of mercury and overhead.

  6. Make rolling crystal flash faster (the md, fierce, and EX version).

  7. Less lag at the end of crouch fierce K

  8. Any other tweaks that other people mentioned.

This is already possible. I love when people try to focus my barcelona attack. Free Izuna.

maybe he meant for the grab animation to be longer than it is now. Sort of like the super.

Have you ever grabbed Sakura in the middle of her focus attack? I know that I haven’t. In some frames during certain characters focus attacks it is either impossible or near impossible to grab with the izuna drop. I spent alot of time in training mode to ascertain this.

However it is true that you can grab people out of their focus attacks as I have done it plenty of times. However plenty of times I failed and it looks like I go right next to the character and just not grab them. Sometimes when I am directly above their head (which I found makes it easiest to grab) I still don’t grab but instead I do the claw attack.

I can grab blanka out of elec in training mode, so grabbing sakura during FA is not much of a problem, unless its online ill explain why. In order to be good with FBA you have to have a understanding of how FBA animation/hit box properties work. Think Vega’s FBA as multi stage move.

stage 1 is the jump to the wall
stage 2 is the wall jump
stage 3 is the first of the 3 stages of the FBA attack animation. this part involves Vega extending his arms out in front of him. This also counts as the command grab animation and the first hit of EX FBA claw attack.
stage 4 is the second stage of FBA. during this animation Vega swipes his claw controlling the space below him and to the side. this also counts as the second hit of the EX FBA claw attack
stage 5 is the last stage of the attack animation this is the part where Vega has his arms extended all the way controls the space to the left or the right of him.
stage 6 space between Vega and the floor where he cant attack any more
stage 7 is landing

Grabbing Sakura out of FA seems hard because you are hard wired to go for the grab the moment you are near their head. You have to learn to do it deep. If she FA while you are in the middle of your dive and if you go for the grab that early, you’ll whiff the grab and get punished because you attacked. Look at the animation. For however x amount of frames those hands stay in front of his face and not move those count as the active frames for the command throw. Also say Sakura or Akuma do cr.hp most of the time you’ll get stuffed, but you got stuffed because you extended your arms and the grab animation is no longer active. It now counts as an active move and not throw, which in turn extends your hit box. Which means you have to do it deep so that when Vega extends the arms he grabs the arm starting the command throw animation.

edit: the only move i cant grab out of is Blanka’s coward crouch. because its in the space in where Vega cant attack any more. Also if you want more success in landing your izuna drop let go of the analog and input f + punch at the same time while next to them.

Everything Viejo said is true. Izuna is very strong and reliable as it is. There are a lot of tricks and different ranges to hitting it, but they are more for the Vega thread in the SF4 section.

f + punch as in forward + punch right? If the izuna drop is as reliable as you say it is, then that changes a lot. Thank you for the information.

Still though, I doubt its as reliable as you say it is when it comes to grabbing focus attacks. I have been able to grab shoryuken, flash kicks, as well as other attacks, but I have never been able to grab Sakura’s focus attack (in the middle of her focus). Ill try the f + punch and see if it makes it easier.

They should just look at how CvS2 vega was and model SSF4 Vega after that. Make him faster like way faster, make his scarlet terror do something or give him more priority on st.RH. Oh…and the mask and claw command moves…yeah…those need to be taken out. Make df.fwd a overhead or at least make it give some frame advantage or something. On exFBA, make the 2 hit claw dive a little easier to hit. That’s about all I can think of atm.

Just some thoughts

New Ultra should be combo-able or add that to BHC.
Ex-RCF less startup.
Izuna Drop - Someone mentioned it before and the idea of it being a different input is kinda awesome.
Faster and/or less recovery on both backflips.
ST-SF2HD version pls

Sky High Claw off walljump and i’d cum right now.

I’d rather not make any suggestions.
I’ll trust Capcom in doing the right things to make Vega a better character. <3

Bring back the ST super where you only get the flash if you get the grab.

i don’t play as Vega in SF4… but i do have to play against my brother’s Vega on an almost daily basis, so i know what he needs to become a more fearsome threat:

  • a way to combo into his ultra aside from lvl 2 focusing
  • an overhead… prolly just tweak his p.o.m. move
  • his scarlet terror and izuna were better in ST so…
  • a better ultra as his number II… maybe his scarlet terror super from CvS or the claw stab one

Maby a very simple dan-like ultra where he just tears everything in front of him to pieces. But then you have a problem when he lost his claw.

Except they kinda dropped the ball last time. I’m not sure why we should put our hopes in them this time.

Becuase they have been doing this since 87, and everytime Capcom does it they learn to do it more right every time.
