SfxTekken Price Drop: Implications?

If you truly believe in that, you have no idea how video game sales work. Firstly Vita is a dead system and it will take a miracle for the game to exceed 100,000 on that system, I think only recently has any game exceeded that amount. Secondly fighting games sell poorly on the PC. At the moment it’ll be very difficult for SFxT to cross the 1 million point in its lifetime. Is it a sales disaster that will sink Capcom? No. Will Capcom be massively disappointed and want the heads of people in Ono’s team on pikes? Yes.

the pikes belong to the suits who decided for the retarded DLC plan (including selling parts of the gameplay system) and who gobbled up that Sony “paypuh”

Capcom makes only a fraction of that retail price, around $30-40 (for a $60 game) and from those they have to substract development costs and marketing to calculate their profits

so… no, there’s no way they made 28 mil from 476,000 units sold!

lolwat?

Vita barely two months into it’s lifecycle. Saying it’s a dead system already is dumb thing to say. 3DS had a horrible start when it launched. It didn’t get any steam until the price drop. True probably be the same for the Vita or when a new Monster Hunter is released for it. Whichever comes first.

Your so wrong when it comes to PC. Ono stated that Vanilla on PC sold well. In a interview with Destructoid (one I can’t seem to find at the moment), Sven said that the Street Fighter games are the Capcom’s best selling games on PC. It’s great as it’s killing the myth of there being no market for fighters on PC.

I’m pretty sure UMvC3 sold like 50,000 or more on Vita. I don’t doubt SFxT will do the same especially considering its cross compatibility. I can either pay $20 for the new characters or pay $40 to get all the characters plus cross compatibility (which includes online co-op between yourself with a Vita and a friend with PS3 version) and take it on the road. Not only that but this is the first iteration of the series, unlike say UMvC3 which although also on the Vita lacked true compatibility features (that controller thing doesn’t count) and offered only the replay mode as something new. With SFxT you don’t even need a PS3 to play people on PS3 anymore.

capcom has no further to look than umvc3 if they want to know why sfxt is selling so poorly. i posted awhile ago that umvc3 may have killed the fg resurgence. sf4 brought it back. ssf4 built on that, and mvc3 rode that momentum to a huge payday, selling 2.5 million copies. 2.5 million! capcom was smoking crack when they decided to risk fracturing the mvc3 user base, which consisted of a good mix of casuals and hardcore. you don’t fuck with that.

if you’re lucky enough to get that kind of reception, don’t fuck it up with a $40 dollar update in the same year. mvc3 had it’s problems, but it was building a nice fan following. things like “bionic marn”, and the broken elements of the game gave mvc3 a personality. just look at umvc3… aside from kusoru, and logtrap, umvc3 is a bore. if capcom had left mvc3 alone and released dlc for it (like they said they would) back in februrary, then released sfxt, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. timing is everything.

first fg life-span was
1990 - 2000: 10 years

dark years
2000 - 2008:

2nd life will not last a decade, so it’s actually pretty fitting that it’s starting to unravel in half the time it took the first life-span.
2008-2012/2013

and if we divide it again then the next life-span–whenever sf V is released–will only last two to three years. lol.

so let’s play theory release date for sf V. ps4 will probably come out in 2014, but i doubt sf V will be present right away. so i’m going to say that ssf4 will get another update next year, and sf V will show up in japanese arcaded around 2016 or 2017. also, i wouldn’t be shocked if we see alpha 4 on ps4 around 2015.

so the third life-span should last
2015 - 2018

oh good point i completely spaced retailers cut. still 20 mil is enough to pay 100 capcom employees for 3 years. I have no idea how big the sfxt development team is. But I would be amazed if they spent 20m on this game. I wish I had a way of knowing how much this game actually cost capcom to make.

trade in price jumped to $27 on amazon, guess the pre-owned sales are good if they are giving more $$$ to restock it.

Saw this at a local Wally World for 19.96 today. It was clearance (dozens of copies) though so YMMV.

Still not biting on it. Skullgirls is so much better.

Lol, Return of Shiki is back with that awesome predictive insight:

Japan totally hates SF4. No one plays that sh*t. Just as you predicted.

Oh my…

Well in any case, sales good/bad/whatever, I’m still playing it personally. Kinda’ don’t care.

Hey awesome, another butthurt SF4 fan trying to hang off my nutsack who has nothing better to do than research my post history for the last 3 years.

Also please point out how anything I said is incorrect. Console sales for every version of SF4 WERE lackluster in Japan.
And I never said that nobody plays that shit (you can curse on SRK you know, unless you’re too afraid to type in swear words at your Middle School library) in Japan, just that game isn’t the end all/be all of Japanese arcades, and it’s not. Not now, and not 3 years ago.
Tekken, Gundam, and Blazblue have outperformed SF4 consistently for the last 3 years in Japanese arcades.
Not to say SF4 has bombed. Super and AE helped SF4, but Vanilla SF4 (back when those posts were made) WAS a garbage game and it WAS tanking for a while until promise of more customization, more characters, better balance, and more offensive characters was delivered in Super.

“More customization, more characters, better balance, and more offensive characters”

Golly gee…if only those things were also coming to SFxT…

If only…

If only those things were coming to a game that wasn’t garbage from the ground-up.

…Oh wait…

http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Skullgirls

You linked another garbage game. What gives?

Here, let me fix that for you:

http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Super_Street_Fighter_2_Turbo

2009: LOL CRAPCOM FANS SF4 IS DYING, SCRUB FIGHTER 4
2012: SF4 IS SO HYPE, LOL SHIT FIGHTER x TIMEOUT IS DYING CA$HCOM FANS, STAY FREE LOL!

and the cycle continues…

Exactly. Hell, not too many months ago people were still calling v.2012 “Apology Edition” because AE was “ass” and cursing Ono out over Twitter for releasing AE.

Yeah, SFxT: ITF: we still don’t know what we’re talking about!

So SFxT sold around 1.4 mill? http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e120507b.html

I am actually surprised but in a good way. Didn’t think people would buy it after reading the hate coming from every forum on the internet, but I guess as long as the price is right, they’ll buy the shit out of it. Retailers may have had to discount the game $20 but it still sold apparently.

1.4 million is nowhere near commercial failure at this point -_-

The comments directed at Capcom saying things like “lol you deserved this, lol you’re killing the FGC” make me want to vomit.

This is what happens when people who have no idea how the industry/sales/etc. work, try to voice their opinion as if they know how the industry/sales/etc. work. (Note: not that I’m some expert, btw)

Never mind the fact that honestly, sales are likely “lagging” for reasons unrelated to what most of the “they got what they deserved!” people were thinking.
