My point is that whatever they meant, they sure as hell didn’t intend to sell 2 million copies of SFxT in 3 weeks, like people are thinking. That’s insane.
And, if it’s lifetime, that’s possible, depending on how they support the game in the future, if they adjust their DLC plans and pricing in response to feedback, and if the PC and Vita releases revitalize some interest.
Balance patches could easily fix this games problems. The problem isn’t the game itself, its Capcom’s shitty business practices. I love SF X Tekken, but it NEEDED to fail to teach Capcom a lesson (one they probably won’t learn). Fans are doing this to spite Capcom. Decent game, shitty company, just my opinion
The top part has the kanji for shuu which means week. So 1st 2nd and 3rd weeks in sales per system. I recognize the Kanji for Japan and U.S. so the part on the left is the number of sales per nation. U.S. being at the top. Japan is the third from the bottom. (But second in sales) Followed by weekly totals, a total per system and finally a grand total.
So if the chart is to be believed (I see no reason why not) Then it is saying that world wide SFxT sold 476,100 units in its first 3 weeks. Not amazing by any means but no where near the flop people are making it out to be. Financially for capcom it probably did really well. They saved a ton of money by recycling elements from other games. I know that if an MMO sells 1m copies its first month the game is a critical success. And those take a lot more money to make than SFxT did.
Now take into account the vita version, pc version, DLC. And the increase in sales once the DLC characters are released. I would be curious to know how much money they put into developing the game or how much they were paid by sony. I would be surprised if this game cost them more than 20m to make. And they have already in just week 3 made 28m.
For those curious it says that by week 3 SFxT sold 245, 697 copies in the U.S. Which falls in line with the previous chart as well.
What is this nonsense you speak of? it’s 2v2 at EVO as it’s the only game that can run 2v2 effectively at that capacity, why not take advantage of it o_O please don’t use Skullgirls as a excuse in why you stopped playing it >_>’ that’s getting real old real fast.
But I don’t ever imagined that SFxT boards would be that empty right now - which is a shame, since here in my country the price dropped significantly too - and even I ordered a copy to myself lol
At best, the price being lower actually makes some people on the fence wanting to buy the title - which isn’t bad by any means.
Honestly, they should leave a general section for sf x t and give character subforums to skullgirls. It’s really hard to keep up with info (specially in these early days where a lot of bad stuff is tossed around) in a single character thread.
So SFxT has been out for nearly a month; the game gets openly mocked on commentary at majors, has sold less than Blazblue when Capcom was banking on selling 2 Million units, put Ono in the hospital because it’s tanking, is a fucking joke in Japan, pissed off legions of loyal fans due to false advertising and Disk-locked bullshit, caused a massive hit to the company’s BBB rating, and now Walmart just knocked the game down $20 to get the game the fuck off their shelves.
It’s 2 mil in lifetime sales. They still have a chance to make that number with PC and Vita versions aiding with the total number. It’ll be interesting how bad word of month will effect sales of those versions.
They would have had to of been out of their minds if they thought the game had a chance at 2m in the first week. That is the kind of sales BF3 and MW3 make. No fighting game has ever made those numbers. MK which was the best selling fighting game last year took a month to make 1 million. So there is no way they expected to double the best selling fighting game in years with just a weeks worth of sales.
The fact they sold 1/4th of their lifetime sales goal in 3 weeks (not 1 month) is actually impressive considering how much bad publicity this game has gotten.
PC guys are a different breed than your typical console gamer. Even if the game sucks, all it will take is a dedicated mod community to turn things around. Vampire: The Masquerade was unplayable when it was released. Game received only one official patch before the development team disbanded. Game finally got to a playable state through fan patches and mods. It’s one of the better WPRGs for it. This kind of stuff sells PC games in the long term.
