SFxT General Discussion #4 - Witty title

Sounds like every 2D fighting game ever to me

Iā€™ve pointed it out before, but people confuse the SF4 vortex problem.

The problem is not that you eat a dirty mixup when you get knocked downā€¦ thatā€™s the whole reason you want to knock them down in the first place. Itā€™s that its very easy to land hard-knockdowns in SF4, and as a result, it becomes very easy to loop said knockdowns.

Also, the sloppy hitboxing makes alot of stuff justā€¦ strange.

Looks like Iā€™m not the only one that feels this way about top tierā€¦

SF4 is annoying because you get beaten constantly for simply guessing wrong. You get knocked down once and then your opponent goes into total HERPPPPPPPPPPP mode. I was okay with ToDā€™s in SF2 because they required tons of skill to landā€“Dictatorā€™s, for exampleā€“but in SF4 it just feels like youā€™re at the mercy of random.

Iā€™ve been losing my mojo in terms of this game, too. So, Iā€™ve decided to drop my point character Ken(see: training wheels), which is long overdue. On that note, is Christie ass or something? I swear Iā€™ve only seen her once in all of the time Iā€™ve played this game.

I personally dont think the sfxt ā€œmetaā€ us such an uphill battle where playing mid or low tier is just not a good idea. I think ryu, raven, julia, bison, steve and a slew of other characters have what it takes to hang with law, nina, hwo, chun etc. . People love to make 3S as the poster game of tiers donā€™t matter even with yun, chun and ken around.

She isnā€™t as pick up and play like alot of the characters. She is more in the group of lei, xiaoyu and steve wherr you have to learn her stuff to be an effective player.

usually their reasoning is very stupid though.

The usual one. Tiers arenā€™t a big deal in 3S because you can parryā€¦ sigh

No no our tiny brains just canā€™t fathom the complexity of 3S, the most execution heavy game. Sf4/sfxt babies first fighter just donā€™t understandā€¦

Well, of course! Obviously if you are a machine that can parry every single attack with 100% effectiveness then tiers wonā€™t matter! Duh!

Never mind that, even though itā€™s a universal mechanic, it doesnā€™t effect all characters equally. Actually, it seems like many of the characters with easy to parry attacks are characters who are considered lower tier. What an odd coincidence.

Tier whores and salty low tierplayers should be the last people to be asked about their opinions on a gameā€™s quality. I usually trust those who play the mid tier since they are have more interesting stuff to say.

In anime, thereā€™s a word for Juri.

A slutty sadist. Best to leave it at that until confirmed for anything else.

As for Lili, also best to leave it alone until confirmed. I mean, we could say Vegaā€™s bisexual since heā€™s all over anything he finds beautiful, but we donā€™t. Overstatement, true, but the point is that until thereā€™s official, canon, confirmation, Iā€™m not jumping to shock value conclusions for the sake of doing so. Kind of like Poisonā€™s possible gender (At this point, Iā€™d just love a confirm for ANY answer on that oneā€¦).

One here, good sir.

This is why the top tier in that game donā€™t always get away with everything, though. In this game, thereā€™s less of forcing your opponent into the same dirty mix-up over and over. So top tiers get one thing going for them: They have better chances to get back to why theyā€™re top tier. In SFIV, however, a mid-tier or a ā€œgood enoughā€ char can force you into that first knock down and keep their momentum up because thereā€™s not much you can do about it. Like I said, in SFIII, when you did a quick rise, you rolled back a tiny bit, thus helping fight against vortexes just a tad bit. In SFIV, youā€™re stuck where you fall EXACTLY, and that allows both top tier and low tier characters to have at you, for better or worse. In this game, thereā€™s a chance to escape, and although that helps low tiers, apparently itā€™s more beneficial to top tiers, since their value isnā€™t really based on how they handle knock-downs as much as itā€™s based on other things like damage, reach, speed, and combo potential.

Christie is hard to use + the pay out isnā€™t all that awesome. She can work if you REALLY dig into her, but I presume youā€™ll have a decent amount of bumps along the way.

Yeah well a quote like that will make everyone ignore you instead.

Your comment is almost as ignorant as your my profile picture.

Ah, fuck it. Going to go with Guy / Lars until I can figure out something better. Thereā€™s not enough aloof females or bishounen in this game for me to play.

And with that, I begin my journey to B-lue rank in this game (again) whilst awaiting Yatagarasuā€™s release. <3

Lolā€¦they have biased views of the game. If u hate the comment, then move along. Both are players on different extremes and from personal experience they suck at giving an unbiased analysis of the metagame. lol. Why the sudden anger? Lol.

TBH its not that simple, if you know the setup your opponent is going for then its not so much about guessing wrong as much as it is about reacting. With some characters its a lot harder of course, take Ken with his ambiguous j.hp and j.mk/j.lk jump ins as well as his hurricane kick for example, he either takes 2.5 steps back and crosses you up by half a pixel, or takes 3 steps back and hits you in front by half a pixel, not to mention his 50/50s after a hp srk soft knockdown which all depend on when you press a button and which button you press whether it will cross up or not, and you pretty much have no real way of telling on reaction.

Even in SFxT you cant imagine how many times I just punched people in the face with Ryu as they were expecting a cross up j.lk/mk or a hurricane kickā€¦ Ryu/Ken j.hp is Nina levels of ambiguous on wakeup if spaced right, and I barely ever see it used in this game.

Ve, the problem isnt that they get a setup if they knock you down, the problem is as you yourself stated that hard knockdowns are common, and that the fact that there is no tech roll coupled with the shitty hitboxes and hurtboxes allows for really ambiguous jump ins/divekicks as well as ā€˜1 frame blockablesā€™ AKA unblockables

If hard knockdowns werent so common, or at least didnt allow all the time in the world for you to set up for an ambiguous jump in/unblockable then tech rolls wouldnt quite fit in if you ask me and the game would already be a lot better with a relatively small change. For example throwā€™s should function like Sagatā€™s throws - compliment the characterā€™s gameplan and put you in optimal position relative to your opponent. How they shouldnt function is Cammyā€™s back throw or Kenā€™s forward throw, which allow you to get correct spacing, whiff normals, and then jump in for a meaty attack which they have to more or less guess which way to block IF they can block it at all.

Because Iā€™m tired with the whole bullshit on ā€œtier whoresā€.

Iā€™m sorry, when did we start hating people for trying to win? Oh thatā€™s right, these days everyone has become bitchmade over that. Nope, the only thing that matters is ā€œdoing your best, playing however youā€™d likeā€.

Real talk, ā€œtier whoresā€ who are actually good at a game are people whoā€™d know better than most how the game actually works.

People only read what they want. i am actually criticizing both mindsets.
I just use the term because its well known. Do you go around raging at peoples opinion for no reason? You are acting like a little kid. Way to fucking misunderstand my point.

Youā€™re saying that tier whores and ā€œsaltyā€ low tier heroes should have no opinion because theyā€™re biased and that youā€™re more likely to listen to people who play mid tier because they are the most likely to have an unbiased opinion.

Yet you conveniently miss the fact that the reality is, it doesnā€™t really matter what a person plays. The only thing that matters is the person themselves. Iā€™ve seen just as many morons play with mid tier as Iā€™ve seen scrubs use high tier without knowledge and people using low tier as an excuse.
