SFxT General Discussion #4 - Witty title

They were fast, but the game was pretty slow ie: Any Blanka, Honda, Claw match (who were top tier). Sagat mirrors too i guess.

the most boring grand finals of all time

I’d like her more if they continued with her character development. I mean, c’mon, she beat Ryu at the end of SFA3 - and more over, it was a brainwashed Ryu who wasn’t holding back against her. She should be over this schoolgirl crush and just respect Ryu as a peer instead of fangirling over him and giggling when he’s around. Now she’s more or less exactly how she was when she was first introduced.

I still enjoy playing as her, and hey, I still think she’s cute, but it’d be nice if she had a bit more badass in her like she should have at this point.

when this happens to me I actually keep playing…

That is cool. I agree. but can u tell me, what is the reason that u never triet to master Dhalsim? or if u did, why did u drop it?

Must say that got best laught for this month with this video

“you win as long as you are not insane”

Oh hey this looks familiar…

Hope all the people crying for the return of CvS2 are prepared when it actually returns.

I’m one of those people but I know what to expect, I still own my GCN copy of this game. <3

Eh, it happens. Take a break from it, I’d say. Though I do owe you more matches.

Or jump in the irc chat and get MORE matches. That could help too - tends to get me to play when I get matches in there if I’m feeling weary of it, usually because playing ranked/endless with random people irritates me more than it helps me. >_>

Oh, I’ll still play.

I just don’t have an overwhelming desire to work at the game right now. Probably because I’m working on learning Chun in SF4.

I’m too busy trying to get my damn controller to work consistently in XDZW.

I almost quit playing SFxT around 3-4 months after release, but after 1-2 months of SFIV I realized what’s the better game (at least for me). Who knows, USF4 might get rid of all the BS without adding anything stupid in return.

I find playing the characters I like keeps me interested in the game, no one here is a master of the whole cast either, there is always something you can learn if you have the motivation.

SFxT is just a game I’m proud to support because I feel it’s really well made and I enjoy playing it. I find it hard to speak bad about it or stay away from it, even when I’m practicing other games.

I found out that learning Lei x Xiaoyu team never gave me a chance to lose motivation in the game, provided you play with stances. Give it a try.

Lei x Xiaoyu…I remember trying that team. Poor footsies…but lots of neat set-ups and synergy.

Lei has great footsies what are you talking about

You just need to use the right stance and press the right button in the right range, at the right time

Xiaoyu’s far st.LK is deceptively good combined with her top-tier walkspeed. Not going to say hers is great tho.

Well, in Lei’s case, the problem is that while he does seem to have some good buttons in his stances, proximity guard will just break you out of those stances, forcing you to do a bunch of stance changes to get back to the stance with the button you want. If your opponent knows about this, it’s easy to prevent you from staying in a particular stance if you want to try to play footsies. Having good buttons doesn’t mean as much when you can’t truly weave back and forth without being forced to exit your stance. Though I suppose if you’re able to quickly switch to something like Crane stance (auto-counter lows plus a move that crushes standing), that isn’t as much of a problem, but I feel the proximity guard “bug” really messes with that. Though you need to stance switch 3 times each time just to get to crane stance…and every time you go into proximity guard you have to do all of that again. His footsies in his stances may be pretty good but if you can’t consistently stay in a stance to play footsies…yeah. At least Snake stance has some nice pokes, but they don’t seem to quite compare to his pokes in some of his other stances.

That being said, his st.mk is pretty nice, even if it is slow. Though being able to be + on block or go into a free mix-up thanks to drunken cancel is a very nice bonus…you just don’t want to get jumped on when you attempt it.

And yeah, Xiaoyu can work in footsies, but aside from that st.lk, her other pokes are really easy to whiff punish. Though at least they have they added benefit of leading to full combos on hit with stance cancel to wave crest

In regards to the recent topics. I like AE, but not online. I like SFxT, but not online. Like I can play both games, and I have my gripes about both games, but at the end of the day I feel both are well made. We cry about the vortex fighter 4 and they cry about SFxLame. Both games have points that piss me off. But I can enjoy both games. I think the top tier in SF4 are moot and can be beaten by really solid play. You have to exploit every weakness in your opponent, but Makoto made top 8. Freaking Makoto. SFxT I don’t think the top tier can be beaten so easily. They are generally just too strong in comparison to everyone else. Justin makes Hwo look like a one trick pony and he’s still winning tournaments/placing high.

I think its actually the opposite lol, in SF4 no matter how solid you play one knockdown can change everything if your opponent knows a setup which is really ambiguous or a 1 frame blockable and certain matchups are more or less dominated by said setups. Case in point:

No offense to LPN hes a great player but I wouldnt say he is better than Momochi, or even if he is, not THAT much better. Another example I have in mind:

Same idea here, ACE gets jumped in on ONCE and he loses 75-80%

Whereas in SFxT as long as you play well there is more or less always SOMETHING you can do to avoid damage (not chip damage all the time) and there is always a fighting chance for you no matter how much your character or even team sucks.

I was just kidding with ya when it came to Lei because you betrayed the army and ran over to some nice tits :stuck_out_tongue:

To be more serious, his footsie game isn’t really great, but is at a good side imho. It takes really much effort because each character has a different stance that is effective, but is workable, and his regular stance’s buttons aren’t bad except his walkspeed is slow.

Who says I betrayed the army? I still play Lei. I’m just not nearly effective enough with him to really do well. :frowning:

By the way, did you ever finish that comparison between the console move start-up and the PC move start-up? I had meant to continue doing some testing myself, but I kinda got side-tracked and eventually…forgot. Plus I figured you’d have already finished by now.

Is the only discrepancy with Xiaoyu’s wave crest?

And then someone like me has to come in and play the ‘downer’ card by saying that some people (like myself unfortunately) still have this 4th gem slot…nevertheless, I’d say if they can’t activate the gems, then what’s the point of having them on the first place. (Wait that doesn’t make the situation any better does it?)

That said on the other hand, I’ve actually fixed up my internet. The non-internet time has kinda given me some more lab time with my characters, more specifically, finding some new stuff with Akuma’s corner pressure. Although finding Lili and Christie stuff is a task in itself. I think the only real thing I’m getting with Lili is the spacing for her cross-up J.:hk: but that’s about it.

Glad to hear that

I can say with confidence I did a test with every single move (but then again there are always something I forget every time I test something like this), and Xiaoyu’s Wave Crest was the only difference.
