I think you need to think harder about how to get around stuff.
Alisa cannot vary the speed of her horizontal fireball. This is the number one flaw with her zoning game because it means the opponent will always know they can jump over the fireball. There’s no way for them to be tricked into jumping on top of a fireball. What comes from this is that even though the opponent can always jump, Alisa has Cradle Star and can attempt to punish jump ins from far away. In addition, Cradle Star will plow an opponent who attempts to walk forward for too long. Is it really risky to whiff a cradle star because it is incredible unsafe on whiff. This risk vs reward is the basis of her zoning game.
But Cody doesn’t have to worry about this, because he can just slide under the horizontal fireball, and the recovery is so small that there’s no way Alisa can punish it with cradle or any of her Boot moves. So it is actually REALLY hard for Alisa to zone out Cody.
You can’t possibly say she’s broken… none of her hitconfirms are remotely as good as Kaz/Nina/Law and her damage is pretty middle-of-the-road. She doesn’t even really have a mixup game. Alisa mostly excels at frame traps that lead into big damage corner carries, good up-close pressure and a good, SITUATIONAL zoning game.
Trying to zone out Kaz isn’t a good idea and even the slow characters with bad mobility like Asuka, Heihachi and Gief can make up for it to an extent with high damage and good frame traps/mixups/etc.
there are multiple cases where my slide was punished, but i get it, shes not broken. others have already explained why. i still think her style is lame though lol.
She moved to her school in Japan when she lived in Monaco to be closer to her.
The stuff in Queen’s Blade has her oggling other female characters in cutscenes as well. Like… it’s pretty damn obvious even if Harada hasn’t just come out and said it, which he may of, I don’t know.
You know, that talk of reactions and stuff made me realize it isn’t all about reactions and lag. I was playing slightly buzzed the other night as Dudley, had my opponent’s Juri in the corner. We had a stare down from a character width away for a good 3 seconds and I was like, “This dude’s totally gonna jump.” I walked backwards a bit, and sure enough he jumped. I hit that St. MP for the win and I was like “I knew it!” I guarantee you my sober self would have been like, “But but what if I mess up and get counter hit? Eh, I’ll block it.”
trust me, there’s a lot going for hwo…it’s just that you can play very basic and get far with just doing a few things but I hear what you’re saying. He is easier to pick up compared to the rest of the cast, the risk is minimal when you rushdown because you can end your stuff with DH (but if you’re doing special step xx DH and your opponent is familar with that pattern you can get punished for free) If that move was 0 on block or something then it’s not going to be that easy for him to go nuts all the time
Edit: I should commend you for using that Asuka/Hugo team, you’re brave…really brave
Disagree. Vega’s got good reach and speed, so either use someone with a DP like a Shoto (except Sakura), or use someone like M. Bison (Dictator) or even M. Bison (Boxer).
Please tell me you hate El Salvador and not the United States…
Special Step is probably the WORST way to end that MP -> MP chain. It’s the most negative, and is only useful to do if you’re gonna do either a normal DH or an EX DH (especially EX, but I’d suggest the medium version of Special Step). Also, it’s Special Step. Mist Stepping is SO Mishima…
Alisa’s a mean character though. It takes a bit of time to really understand how you should be playing against her, and she’s still really solid even in iffy match-ups. She’s not broken at all (something I know the “me” from a while ago would never believe I’m typing now), but she’s still REALLY solid. The main issue is that she caps out damage quite easily, so if you tag off of her, you be getting much extra.
When are you getting on PSN again? D:>
You’d think a guy like me would be good at crouch-teching huh?
You’re looking into it too much. Lili doesn’t have the hots for Asuka. In weaboo/otaku words, she’s a “Tsundere” (I got a weaboo pal to source this stuff from). Basically, she’s a “frienemy” that displays positive emotions towards people through negative actions. What better way than to start a fight at every possible turn? Almost like Goku and Vegeta, but she’s not being a total hard ass about it. Instead she’s being a self-absorbed douche.
Dude I’m really not, she’s on the LGBT characters in video games Wikipedia page and she sleeps with Asuka in the Manga and feels her up. It’s kind of a thing.
Anyone that can dish out damage or those that really benefit from Vega’s high launcher (Cammy, King, Juri, etc.)
You can’t react to a throw. Reacting to a throw can be compared to reacting to a c.LP hitting. You really can only predict them or crouch tech/tech a bit after a move with positive frames. Although, throw teching too much leaves you susceptible to frame traps, especially in this game. If the opponent sees you crouch teching all the time, he’s probably going to raw launch you.
Alright after reaching 4500 rating with Yoshi/Kuma after playing for about 2 months
I finally ran into characters that give my team slight problems
Guile. Pretty damn difficult for me to approach as Yoshi, he feels like a way better zoner than yoshi so I feel that I have to make a patient but slow approach on him. Making a read on Sonic Boom into Yoshi’s teleport is so so so risky and hardly pays off due to the recovery of his boom. Often I try to make the switch to kuma since I feel I can approach him better though below average with approaching with hunting stance so I stick to rolling through fireballs and the usual block and walk forward/neutral jump
Any tips from guile/yoshi players would be helpful if they know the matchup somewhat. Kuma vs Guile from either perspective would be nice too.
Bison with the headstomp pressure. I have no real answer towards it lol, haven’t really played much street fighter games aside from 3S so it’s something I haven’t caught on to yet. Not enough bison players either. So how should I answer to headstomp and/or the dive? Just block it and move on? Any specific counters I can do if I get a read on either?
The rest of the cast im rather ok with somewhat. *everyone is scared of Kuma so once I have momentum or I have a fair amount of meter it’s all good
Also if anyone has recommendations for alternative point characters for Kuma thats better against zoning teams I’m all ears.
Neutral jump vs Bison, or just walk backwards if your walkspeed is fast enough if you see him do his headstomp/devils reverse hop
vs Guile just be patient and walk him into the corner by walking and blocking his sonic booms. Also Yoshi’s j.hp stuffs or trades with all of his anti airs so you can jump at him with that pretty leniently.
