SFV’s netcode has always been sketchy as hell, but did it really become worse with Arcade Edition and what happened to cause that?
What? The PS4 can’t handle all the golden bling AE added to the game?

SFV was made for worldwide customers, not just Asians with 1Gb internet speed. If they have used those kind of connections as a base to create their netcode then that’s the dumbest thing ever done since online fg’s are even a thing. We have seen people getting laggy matches between pc/ps4 in the same house, all wired, so their Kagemusha netcode is just SHIT. The game valance will be always an excuse for people to complain or blame the game for our losses, but losing because people get clipped without being able to fight back it’s just frustrating. The online need at least to be an even field, whoever can’t afford a better internet or an ethernet cable need to step up, or leave. A real region filter, a wifi detector and a ping meter could be enough to start fixing this mess.
I don’t understand why they haven’t ported over the updated code from Infinite. By all accounts it’s better than the SFV code.
Costs too much. Too much work.
I 100% agree. But I’ve also always felt Capcom was a little backwards that way. They’ve been content in the past to do things to their own standard and let everyone either love it or leave it (and most players won’t leave).
That said I think Darc and the VA video have a point in that SFV’s online seems to be the most consistently shitty. Or maybe it is just the worst at dealing with distance? I dunno. I always heard that MvCI’s online was a step up and that came after SFV so theoretically they should know a better way.
I wonder if CFN isn’t part of the problem. Like maybe it’s adding additional overhead that makes distance/weaker connections that much worse. Or maybe how they built CFN features into the online makes it harder to make QoL improvements, or vice versa.
I feel like it’s one of those things that if it happens is gonna be part of a bigger update. Maybe between seasons or something. I definitely hope they can address it at some point.
I treat matchmaking like DJ does and it definitely helps filter out the garbo connections, but even doing that you still get hit with teleporters periodically because every pre-match bar rating should have a ‘?’ after it. I’d love for that to not be the case.
Infinite uses Kagemusha netcode as well.
It was a joke. Because you know…capcom laziness and all.
I think Capcom need to address this issue, because less players playing = less extra incomes from dlc’s and stuff, at least less than optimal. I agree dedicate players and fans will continue supporting the game, but why being OK in satisfying 5/6 players when you can get happy 10 of them? More people satisfied with the product, more money. I dunno when and if SF6 will be reality, but how good is the general experience in SFV could be a decision issue to have faith in a better experience with the next chapter. Personally I will play 6 in any case, but I’m a loyal fan since '91, I’m not going to be Capcom target for the future. Quality is still important in business, who cares about be able to follow our favorite players if I can’t try to emulate them online. That’s could be a youngster talk soon.
Well part of that is also players.
Alright - so I’ve come down to understanding that while I enjoy Birdie, staying somewhere between Platinum and Super Platinum is just weird. Tried out Cammy and for my particular play style, I’ll struggle to learn her. So instead, I’m gonna exhaust my resources on my main from SFIV, Blanka and see where that takes me. Not gonna abandon Birdman completely but I need to figure this thing out, and I will.
Still gonna press my way to Diamond.
That is a very solid plan and I approve of it.
It may not bring you where you want to with Blanka, but at worst it will give you a better understanding of what you may be lacking with Birdie to progress.
For one, I am still terrible at this, but my Gief is much better now that I spent a few time playing Sakura.
So go for it and go for Diamond! pom poms
Thank you! I’m gonna make y’all proud lol
I’ve checked my blacklist and what Vesper said in his video seems true, most of 'em are ps4 players. What kind of sorcery is this?!
I haven’t watched Vesper’s video, but a thing I hear often is that the PS4 version can’t keep a perfectly stable frame rate on all stages and this, combined with the netcode, makes online matches very unstable toward the end.
That’s what I hear around at least. I’m not sure if this problem existed before or was introduced with Arcade Edition.
hehe…a youtube video will hit home to capcom and they’ll update their “netcode” for us muricans
lets hope they fix sf4 netcode too :^)
So wait, if most of the blacklisters are on PS4, then is PC solid for you typically? I haven’t played anyone on PC since I’ve heard about the whole lag switching deal.
This is true. The PS4 edition lags on certain stages. This happens especially at the end of rounds when NPC’s are activated and running everywhere in the background. For a while I thought people were using lag switches because post stun I’d do a combo and the game would lag so bad causing me to miss my combo. Turns out it’s stage lag.
The best stages are the grid and the SFII remakes because there’s nothing going on in the background.
That’s on the netcode. If you dizzy an opponent and they’re mashing trying to get out, the game freaks out as it tries to rollback on every possible mashed input causing the lag to increase significantly. Happens regardless of what stage it’s on.
I don’t bother mashing out of dizzy’s online because of that.
That could definitely be a factor. Although I’ve had issues with this offline in training mode as well and I think it’s the reason a lot of the Japanese players always play the grid.
I always mash out of dizzies. Take advantage of every scenario. Someone is going to do it to you any way
