In a tourney situation I agree
In an online one, winning because I tried mashing out of a dizzy and the game started lagging heavily in my favor doesn’t really teach me anything

I don’t get how dashing effing works in this game. It is costing me a lot of points.
Double tap and release, Gief or Sakura takes a step forward and stop. Double tap and hold, usually they walk forward instead of dashing.
Why can’t input here be as good as KOF?
Return to neutral
dat feel when you mash out of dizzy and whoop that players ass to timbuktoo
why submit to defeat when the a game gives you a chance to turn the tides
even if you’re 1% of health away…your opponent could still try and taunt you and SFV taunts take forever
I can’t speak to SFV on the standard PS4 anymore. I have the game on PSPro and I don’t have any issues using the “boost” mode. I used to want a Pro Patch but Capcom would probably find a way to fuck it up.
Edit: I did watch Vesper’s video and I agree. The main issues the netcode are one sided roll back, I hear Purbeast screaming somewhere, and the lack of filtering options. There would be issues without filters but they’d occur far less frequency. For the most part, I’ve had solid matches in SFV. The only real consistently bad matches I’ve had are right after maintenance. Servers seem to shit the bed after an update. I still they need to put the updated netcode from Infinite in SFV. That along with more filtering options and fix to one sided roll back would eliminate 90% of the problems.
This is a thing!?!? No fucking wonder!
On stuns I started doing the most simple shit cause I swore peeps would start lag switching on me.
Ugh! I can’t believe this is an actual thing…
honestly I’m just too lazy to mash out of stuns but hey now I have a good excuse for it
I just ran into my first match in ranked where Aegis saved me instead of killing me.
I knew about pressing the Start button during the match, but that’s even worse because Capcom itself recommended to mash during dizzy state to ran out of it quickly. These things aren’t supposed to happen, that’s weird.
I know this is dash input advice but I prefer to think of this as general life advice for all of us.
SRK Presents - Ben Koans
It’s funny because I was looking at your points and also saw that you ran Cammy and thought the same thing.
It’s frustrating playing a character you really like because they click with you but that don’t help you produce wins like you want. Cammy took me all the way to UG in S1 but by the end of the year I was just exhausted with the character and I felt stagnant as hell. This game is strange at times. Being easy to play but still having to deal with the variety of (30+) characters and having to watch out for damn near everything.
Your one true character might not even be in the game yet. But you’ve been with the Can&Peel guy for a minute so branching out now I think could do wonders for you since you have the general SFV game plan down. IE mash face on controller to win.
You’ll still get your shit bodied using the new car smell character but you’ll probably make bigger strides once you get their stuff down. Could take 2 to 3 months though. That’s how long it was for me.
Blanka players are master of mashing out of stun. Shit is horrifying.
Years of mashing out Electricity has trained them well.
Players make the character not the other way around
How invested a player is in getting good with their character is another thing completely
I think Twin is right, most of us just don’t play the right character. I’m an overwhelming pressure/rush down character lover, but I don’t like none of the characters with these kind of abilities present in the game. Zeku looks like that partially in his young form, but even him isn’t exactly that kind of bulldozer I’m used to. At least he completely fulfill my need to showing off with execution and flashy moves, so I’m OK with him.
Man, I ran the friggin gamut of characters last night. Messed with Ryu, Cammy, Blanka, Zangief, and even friggin Abifart. But yeah, I don’t know enough to really roll with those characters. Totally shows since I literally dropped by 1000 LP. And for me, I know it’ll take a while to work with them. So the question is… Who’s really gonna fit for me? I could keep training with Blanka but the difference between him in IV and V is too drastic. So yeah, maybe I’ll try Cody, G or Sagat and incorporate them into my game. But like I said, I’m not dropping Birdie completely. The good news is that even after such a massive drop in LP, I gained plenty of that back with an 8 game win streak.
Mena said it’s hard to be consistent with him - but I wonder if it’s the character or him? Hard to say, but for now I blame myself for the discrepancies and I’ll work the tech till it really makes sense.
Absolutely appreciate the encouragement Twin!
I’m in the same boat. I usually gravitiate towards space control characters so with SFV I wanted to buck that and try to play more aggro. Which led me to Mika and now Laura.
I definitely feel more comfortable playing someone like Menat or even Falke generally but I think playing Laura has forced me to learn a lot more and think more critically than I would have if I had picked say Guile early on and just stuck with my tendencies.
Everyone who can’t settle on a character should just play Ed
Play the Kunoichi
Character choice can definitely impact success, but worrying about it too much can be a trap.
When I fall into a rut my first instinct is often to switch characters, but the idea that finding the perfect character will somehow turn me into a good player is really just wishful thinking. The truth is if you’re stuck at a mediocre rank like me it’s because your fundamentals suck, plain and simple. I’ve seen good players pick up a character they’ve barely touched before and maintain rank in the upper diamond levels just cause their fundamentals are solid. Many of the best players like to play several character archetypes, and even the ones who strongly prefer a certain archetype can still do work with just about anybody if they put their mind to it (see: Justin Wong and Rufus).
Of course if you are losing the motivation to play because you don’t enjoy your character, switching could make the difference for you. Can’t get better if you aren’t putting in time, and you probably aren’t gonna put in the time if you aren’t having fun.
