The game has “died off” on Steam but that was meant to happen since the majority of people playing day one were DBZ casuals who have no real investment in fighting games. They’re just there because they like the IP and want to hit buttons. They didn’t actually care about fighting games.
With that said it’s still clearly the biggest fighting game competitively. Probably only beaten if you count all the Smash dudes.
Yeah year 2 will be the real test for how people stay content with it. Marvel 2 had like a 700 man B3 tourney (Evo before Evo), but then got to the point years later where it was hard to find locals for the game. When I started going to tourneys Marvel couldn’t pull more than 100 people at Evo.
It’s obviously not gonna die competitively, but it remains to be seen how big it stays in the future.
SFV’s numbers are obviously going to be bigger than last year’s since tournament/product drama killed the numbers from 2016 (but was still the biggest game at Evo2k17 regardless).
That’s nice. Pulling in big numbers at the start don’t mean much when you can’t stay consistent. At that point you’re just a “one shop stop” then everyone moves on. Like other games before it, it needs to be able to stand the test of time. That is the question.
Also never said sf5 was close to dead, but it’s numbers did drop from the entry it had from 2016 to 2017. Is it picking up steam again? Don’t know, don’t follow it so I can’t say.
It’s weird to say if SFV is picking up steam since it still was the highest entered game at 2017 despite numbers being cut and half. Most every other fighting game is still playing follow up to SFV
If anything that just shows how ridiculously niche the other games are when the big game can have downturn and still be more prominent.
I am happy that DBFZ is drawing in a crowd and all, but it is not my kind of game at all.
I already dislike the DBZ IP to begin with, and the game looks entirely too boring to play, let alone watch streams of.
Still, I hope it will keep gathering a crowd and bringing in people to events. We need more people in the FGC despite of what FG they like, not less.
is at what point did they decided they needed to make a VS style game? Like I wonder if DBFZ was a 3v3 game before the new Marvel got announced or what. It’s obvious they made the game to directly compete with Marvel or else they wouldn’t have went for 3v3. It’s just way too coincidental. The team/vs fighting sub genre is a big niche that wasn’t filled by much other than Marvel so it would have been good regardless, but it’s fishy
On top of that, BB Tag directly ripped some of Infinite’s mechanics so it’s also obvious that the game was trying to at least play in Marvel’s shoes. Think someone should do a youtube video on it if they know how it actually came about.
Dude, I enjoy multiple fighters including SFV and don’t sulk like a bitch when one gets popular over my preferred one. I’ve SEEN your posts bro. You cry constantly about any DBFZ related article. Look at your post here, for instance. Everyone here has their issues with DBFZ but you’re the only one who genuinely wants it to fail. You are exactly the DBFZ fan you criticize. Check that mirror again!
DBFZ sure has some issues, but what i appreciate about it is the dedication and attention to detail the developers have put in it.
I would absolutely love Capcom to do that to Street Fighter V. How could would it be to have all those specific character interactions ? How cool would it be for all characters to actually have a proper story mode ? Or even make the artstyle like the SF movies ( anime ).
In my opinion DBFZ does a lot of justice to the Dragon Ball franchise, the devs showed it a lot of respect. Game is far from garbage,it’s actually one of the best Dragon Ball games ever made.I hope it sold well enough so we can see a sequel in the future.
What’s most important in a game overall is the gameplay, if that’s solid the other mediocre aspects can get a pass, however they are not to be ignored. What’s fun and what isn’t is something totally subjective so arguing what’s most fun is not really up do debate in my opinion.
However, you can argue what’s the better product overall. When i look at FighterZ i see the following
Fantastic art style , i am literally playing the anime
Good soundtrack
Fantastic attention to detail
Voice acting top notch, again, i am in the anime itself
A lengthy campaign , you actually get to play as the bad guys, i love that
A great roster
The small things , such as character interactions , dramatic finishes and so on.
Good support from the developers
Easy enough to pick off and make the average player feel good while still providing depth so the top players can stand out from the rest.
Game has it’s issues, but it’s overall a product where love and care was added. It shows.
