SFV Lounge: SRK Cross Tag Battle

Alioune: Dragon Ball FighterZ is based on a rich system, Street Fighter 5 is not

That’s a great interview. They go in depth and discuss a ton of fighting games and their systems/mechanics.

I like Alioune and respect a lot of what he has to say. A lot of his criticisms about SFV have been echoed by other top players, so I don’t really see a problem with this - it isn’t a perfect game. That said, I don’t agree that the system is so much better in DBFZ. If it was then why does DBFZ have even more of a balance problem than V? I don’t think the bottom tiers in that game are any more viable than V’s lower tier.

I got super and hadouken instead of shoryuken so many times today. x.o
I need to fix that badly. It cost me a lot while playing Sakura tonight.

She is still as tough as she was to play, but she is very fun. Gief is so much simpler to play.

I feel like the small roster launch for SFV has people kinda tunnel visioned for how the game plays or which characters let you lab up and do things, but now we have a good set of characters that do different things in the neutral and have triggers that affect the match in different ways. Some people dont like crush counters, but I didn’t like focus. Plus the “best” character in the game is the basic ass one that doesn’t really rely on CC’s outside of catching backdashes or specific counter poking. She’s good for things that are mostly outside of the CC.

Watching more matches of BBCT it reminds me of what I liked about Marvel Infinite/Marvel 3 and what I dont like about DBFZ. DBFZ the super dashes and vanishes are basically the dashes and CC’s of that game. Sure you have more room for tech and stuff because anime/vs games inherently need that stuff to play the way they do, but with the reliance on those things and the lack of strong assists in neutral, most of the teams do the same thing. It’s not like watching Marvel or BB Tag where the teams played clearly display a large difference in neutral and techniques.

Most teams you can put together in DBFZ mostly do the same thing and it’s just a matter of whether they are more set play based or more assist call (Vegeta) based. Outside of that teams dont really do much different than that. Which kinda defeats the purpose of a 3v3 vs game if the teams you construct dont really create anything new or different in the neutral. It’s just Cell and spikey hair dudes trying to mow down another team of spikey haired/alien dudes. The fact that fireballs always convert into homing teleports reduces the amount of times or ways you can play from a far range unnecessarily.

The supers in DBFZ are almost all generically damage dump based so there isn’t as much room for creativity in DHC’s either. Hookganggod doesn’t even use Hellzone with Piccolo anymore because it’s too easy to reflect. Meaning you dont get to see any real Storm hail or Ammy Okami shuffle supers that greatly change or shake up the neutral and aren’t just for damage dump.

I wouldn’t describe DBFZs system as rich, Super Dash is a catch all with assist coverage and as far as system mechanics go it’s pretty barebones

i honestly think the game is just a cheaper marvel 3, it even has less depth than marvel 3 all i see is people do a beam assist then dash over someone to screw up their block into a combo. I think the reason its getting so much attention is because its 1.DBZ 2.Easier game to get into 3. people need an alternative game to play over sfv

Menat’s volume 3 trial 2. MASTER… I REALLY DID IT!!! FINALLY!!!

All. Trials. Complete.

Capcom - NEVER make trials like that for anyone ever again.

Time to celebrate!!!

Congrats man, that is a good feeling.

I keep trying to watch DBFZ and I still feel like I would like it more if it was paced like Cross Tag. Part of what makes DBFZ feel repetitive to me is that it takes enough cycles to kill off a team that you see the same/similar sequences a lot during a match, let alone a set.

I much prefer a game like Cross Tag where the matches are aggressively paced so even if you’re seeing similar sequences its only once or twice a game and then everyone is dead. SFV sort of has that going for it too with how quickly people tend to get fucked up.

It’s just so boring to watch when the majority of teams have cell or Vegeta or both on a team i get more excitement watching unique characters like Ginyu or nappa and his saibamen gimmicks but ironically all unique characters happen to be ass lol.The games roster is also kinda meh who thought it was a good idea to make multiple versions of the same character? and now there’s rumors that they’ll include regular Goku and Vegeta so who’s knows if they’ll put kid trunks, kid gohan and kid Goku as DLC cash grabs. I could rant more but I hate being negative on SRK all the time especially when people expect me that from me.

Yep DBFZ looks boring as fuck but it’s a damn pretty game. MVCI may have been the FGC’s meme game but the actual game play is miles more interesting than DBFZ.

Then again I prefer on the ground footsies stuff rather than weeb homing attacks so I’m kinda biased.

I didn’t even see this post and this is what I was trying to say but you always word things better I just suck at making my post look as intelligent as yours. The part about teams of spikey hair dudes reminded me of a time when I was at friends house and he was playing fighters with someone and his girl asked “babe, which ones goku?” And we all looked at her then looked back at the screen and started dying from laughter cause we realized that a good chunk of the cast is Goku and multiple clones of him with different color hair or skin tone.

In team based games you’re going to run into 90% of the time one character whose considered top tier. That’s just what people gravitate towards too. Literally, would be in the same boat if nappa or someone else was top tier. For many, it doesn’t matter who they are the question is “Are you easy and top tier?”

This is the reason why I’m so glad Capcom has had the balls to not include those fan fiction tier what if clone characters in V.

I see guys like BroklynKnight who play Ryu talking about how they made Ryu shit in V so they can bring in E.Ryu and I’m like… nigga… he ain’t coming.

I didn’t grow up with DB and while I’m perfectly aware of how influential it is and how it “transcends” the anime stigma, allot of DB is dumb as fuck and most of the clone characters are built around people trying to milk the ever living fuck out of the DB IP. So I just can’t bring myself to want even touch or look at the game because I’m like… all these niggas look same.

Cell is without a doubt this games Doctor Doom

The longer Streetfighter 5 goes on the more bored I get with playing it.

I think the whole Super to ultra thing is really needed for SF I wish they would rehaul some mechanic’s and add others. Adding these new “safe” characters aren’t really doing anything for the game…

I don’t know if they game will ever die. DB is kind of eternal at this point. It’s a dream game people have wanted since forever. Yeah it has 20 Goku’s but it’s made by Arcsys and looks pretty as hell. And since the game is running current to the anime(s) it can just keep adding in new DLC for like another 3 years if they wanted to.

And honestly I don’t want DB to die. Let people have their quasi Mahvel. I just think the game is boring as fuck and I don’t care about the characters at all.

If I had gun to my head and someone said “you main Fang for life or play DB”, I’d play Fang.

If you craft a decent DBZ gaming product it’s just not going to go anywhere. That’s how big DBZ is to people in the US and around the world. Just after playing Marvel there’s nothing for me in it. Even without the characters there’s just nothing I haven’t seen or done before in that type of game and what’s in it is just not as interesting

Funny thing is they really dont have much of a choice of this because of the source material. If you were to somehow reduce each character to only one form you’d have a pretty small roster of viable characters to use. That’s why Xenoverse has like 100 characters, but more than half are just different forms of saiyajin for the same dude.

I’ll say Arksys did a decent job of trying not to go absolute HAM with the forms of the characters. They at least made an attempt to make sure they have different movesets, but just the way the game plays they all end up doing similar stuff regardless and the lack of strong assists makes it tougher to do different things with them. You can play 2 similar playing dudes then have a choice of like 2 or 3 neutral assists or a few lockdown assists. Makes the teams really tough to pick from or do anything different with.

Judging by the EVO entry numbers being way ahead of everything else (at least according to Mr. Wizard) that’s probably not gonna happen

It’s first evo…of course the numbers will be high combined with the name DBZ on it. Same thing happened to sf5 remember? Then look at the year after that.

Haha, dude, you’re the guy that posts on Eventhubs with seething hate for DBFZs success! I never thought you’d be at SRK with your raging fuckery LOL. The salt in your posts are real as hell! You might wanna hold a mirror to yourself when it comes to talking about rabid fans, bro.

DBFZ may not be everyone’s cup of tea (for good reasons), but the success of that game really hurt some feelings, like this Phantom tool and his gamefaqs-esque posts.
