Not any time soon. I’ll probably get PS + at the end of May. That gives Twin time to level up before I go ham again.
Its giving me time to optimize stuff though. Gotta make a more formal list of training room stuff. Punishes on block, tricky nonsense with VT1, which things I can whiff punish (Young Zeku can hit Birdie’s st.mp with his St.HP).
Then there are just random fraudulent things I gotta work on using. AngryBird does a lot of fake run stop stuff. They’re bad in the technical sense, but he does a really good job of keeping his Young Zeku light on his toes which kinda freaks people out.
Type of stuff I gotta work on while I habe downtime.
I’m not. I’m too lazy and I’m not consistent enough. I like playing the game but I think I’ve reached a point where my zest for fun outmatches my desire to be good. I’m good enough to whiff punish on reaction and have some galaxy brain moments here and there. Pertho is a teacher so his dick prob gets hard sitting in training mode and combing through shit. I want to get better while playing which is why I lose all the time.
I still think you can do it. They didn’t have training mode in the arcades for older games and the training mode in newer arcade games is usually on a time limit. That’s if the arcade isn’t being hogged by players. If you playing the good people there’s a way to get good.
Just have to come up with your own way to account for your mistakes. Watch every replay if you have to and write notes down on what you did wrong.
Honestly at this point I enjoy finding things in training mode more than anything. Not that I’m some tech monster but I love experimenting and seeing what characters can do. I spent like an hour in the lab today with Ibuki labbing super impractical combos from her reversal (one of you will get got just wait lol).
Unrelated, Sak always feels so good in the lab but I can never make her work in a match.
As someone who has done both teaching and research full time, I can guarantee there’s no correlation between enjoying doing lab time in the game and doing lab time irl. D:
I should have some time. Tax season is basically over now, so it’s back to normal crunch.
I have tried charge characters on many occasions… but we just don’t get along. I’ve thought a bit about Ken/Akuma to do the “Sak but better” thing a bit… but i actually enjoy Sak in this game.
I must say…I really love Training Mode. It’s so simple, yet so perfect. I can get so much entertainment out of that alone. The Ghetto Training Mode way back in the day consisted of plugging in the 2P controller and beating up on the character. For its time, it was good enough.
Sak is really fun, but Kage just came out as the new un shoto shoto so going with him for now.
@Eskills If I was actually using Sakura I know I’d have her in the pocket for Rog players. Having an easy way to shut down his LP dash punch spam slows him down a lot. I guess it’s just then you have to deal with his other buttons.
It’s less about not working out stuff like that and more like the really odd nuanced parts of the game. Playing under pressure and learning how to balance aggressive and passive play. There’s still things I get hit by that I’m like “pffft whatever” but usually I know when I can press a button and when I can’t. Allot of my losses come from being bullheaded. And sometimes I just need to admit to myself that “yes I pressed that button because I’m mad”.
Yeah I feel like that abut myself to. Like there’s this part of me that is just on the cusp but there’s this thing… just these little things that keeping me from going further.
When I first started playing I was like “yeah I’ll use training mode to practice cr.MPx2 with Cammy”. As I ranked higher there were more fundamental things that I knew I didn’t have down pat so I trained those up.
Confirms (Rookie/Bronze)
Meaties (Bronze/Silver)
Throw teching (Silver/Gold)
Shimmy (Gold/Plat)
Set ups (Plat/Diamond)
CH Confirms (Plat/Diamond)
Situational awareness (Mid base Diamond)
learning how to keep my emotions in check (The whole game)
Now I’m just like… okay…ummm play the game I guess. Like I just don’t really know what to work on that would all of a sudden sky rocket my game up to Master. What’s so annoying is that I can take games off Masters and even GM’s. It’s so annoying when it feels like you have someones card only to then lose to some guy with 500 less points than you. It’s just points whiplash and that can make me really emotional and tilt.
I’ve been at this for so long I don’t even blame the game or that Akuma or his Abigail and their Zeku. It’s like yep, I lost to that. I see Ben typing… please no bully
Sounds good. You gotta do fake stuff sometimes. You have to see it less as “it’s fake so a robot would never get hit by it” to more “do it just enough times that it puts them on tilt then switch up”. People are human and most of the fake stuff is just fast enough that they’re not going to react to it everytime. The fake stuff gets people to sit still which opens up more stuff.
Especially if you’re using fake stuff for a character they don’t play, shit is free. Like Rompe will do all kinds of fake shit with Falke that I could tell you right now and none of it will probably land on you very often after that. It’s just since nobody plays Falke and nobody knows, he wins a lot of matches with his fake stuff. Gotta use what you can use though.
