How about that Intimate Neutral Kombat 11?
Haha, maybe this is dumb, but I’ve never been able to get into MK. Frankly the games are too gory for me.
I honestly think Samsho’s animations while ok for the most part, are a little too smooth overall.
In fairness he ends up on a tangent on the whole “footsies” thing. He makes the point that you see a lot of emphasis placed on footsies based gameplay but you can’t build a whole game based around that. You need the variations in archetypes to spice things up. He also notes that this is not a specific SamSho criticism.
Very broadly, I agree with him. You see a lot of praise for footsies/fundamental based game play from fighting game fans but I think it is indoctrinated. They have been told that is what they should value but if you actually sat down and gave them a really footsies heavy game they would get bored and wander off.
There are absolutely players that enjoy that style of game (a lot of them are unsurprisingly on here) and a larger subset of players that would enjoy watching it.
But does the FG audience at large really, truly want a footsies based game? I have seen them play online and my answer is: fuck no. They want to mash, zip around the screen, and see cool shit happen. Whiff punishing and footsies are for our Japanese overlords.
Again though that is a broader issue than SamSho itself and is part of what most FGs are probably trying to wrestle with from the perspective of being marketable. I still think the new SamSho looks rad, I dread how the netcode will be, and I like the new char because I am a simple creature.
I prefer too smooth. More smooth the better. 3S/Garou animate all day.
If I can’t just walk around and hit buttons I ain’t playing your game
The SamSho panel made it clear they were going all in on their art style, and when you hear what they were going for they nailed it (classical Japanese painting/wood engraving with manga accents to make it more accessible).
Not everybody is going to love every art style, nor should they.
Play to your strenghts.
There’s a reason it became popular. Getting rid of the things that got you where you’re at is a surefire way to fail.
The art style is literally what Dimps said they wanted to do with SFIV, but got scared and dialed back on because they thought it would be too loud. Which is why in SFIV you only get hard paintbrush stuff on like focus attacks.
The extra penciled out outlines you could choose were kind of a homage to what they wanted to do that you could sort of access.
One of the admins of our discord – one of the aforementioned obnoxious old-school players – seriously threatened to ban a guy for using the term “friendlies” rather than “casuals”.
The guy in question is a better Tekken-player than said admin (mostly thanks to Smash experience), has helped out in multiple tournaments as staff and even done successful recruitment events to get Smash players into Tekken. Obviously, using Smash terminology is a mortal sin, however.
Dunno, I just hear more FG players talk shit about Smash than the other way around.
That’s a good man.
That’s really a good man.
I’d do the same you really have let these fools know we have zero tolerance for bitches
anyway SamSho rools everyone else drools
inb4 SamSho turns out to be shit
Netcode might be shit, but should be cool otherwise barring some coding error blowing the game up for a while.
Netcode being shit hasn’t stopped SF5 for whatever reason
Ye but SNK netcode is shiiiiiiiiit.
I love the look of the game, big step up from 14. The big ass hitsparks and hitstop are godly, gives attacks hella weight. This isn’t a game where you’re supposed to be getting hit all the time so when you do get hit I like that its like get fuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked.
im still waiting for MVC4 to be announced or the at very least leaked cause DBFZ needs to die out already
There’s shit and then there’s shit. SFV netcode isn’t what it ought to be, but there are games that come out with netcode that basically doesn’t work at all.
Yeah, and the hit stop is mostly weights to what you are getting hit by, so you can tell that it means something.
