Yeah im not gonna lie i hate when @FlyingVe counter picks me with Abi since i usually use Ibuki against him. I hate fighting big bodies with her
I counter-pick @Saitsu 's Kage with Chun though so karma.

Yeah Chun covers those matchups too and is better than Vega. Luckily you can just do it based on who you’re feeling then.
I used Chun because he is learning Kage and I didn’t want to go full ham with my main but i also didn’t want to fight him with Ibuki since his defense is good and i have to be closer than i would like to fight him properly with her.
Chun and Ibuki are definitely better than Vega but I have way more clock on him, to the point where I can safely say if I’m actually trying to win using anyone else is probably a throw pick, tiers be damned.
I’m getting there with Ibuki though.
I have a similar problem. Either I beef up a punish or I do something suboptimal so it doesn’t hurt as much as it should.
Personally I find it hard to always react appropriately. This game still feels really twitchy to me. So sometimes I know its punish time but I pick the wrong answer. I know some things have gotten easier to deal with via exposure so my going theory now is playing more will help with that (at one point I had Laura’s down pretty well).
I don’t really mean the raw punish situations. I mean things like AA or other random hit conversions. Raw punish or anything into hail/HP hands is good.
It’s pretty well standard SF stuff. SF has just never been my main game so I’m never fully used to it.
Amusingly enough in all the matches I’ve played recently I have run into zero Ryus. I think the S4 buffs let them dash sweep their way into Plat and away from me.
Staying legit patient is still something I need to work on. I get antsy on defense because I know to a degree I’m relying on my reactions and I don’t have confidence in them, so I usually try to initiate some half-assed offense which gets me bopped more often than not. That and I’m still trying to figure out the line between being patient and too passive.
Upside to Laura was that you did’t have to think about that shit as much. No real option but to try to find a way forward. Ain’t doing shit outside of hug range.
I understand what you’re getting at since it’s different from Marvel where air throw into XF or TAC RIP is a real thing. Or just other anime games or SFxT where you just auto pilot juggle them forever on a bad jump. SF you more so have to get multiple conditions (and I think that’s fun any way) buut…
that’s why Kolin is good for you. For SF and for this game her AA punishes are like top tier. If you land the counter they are taking nearly the most damaging, dangerous AA situation in the game. Not many games where you take a counter and take 200 to 250 raw damage and are stuck in an oki setup on the other side of the screen possibly near the corner. The psychological effect of that gets people to empty jump on you a lot which opens up other damaging AAs like air throw.
With Kolin I mean it’s basically once you get an EX bar if you land s.LK, any MP or s.HP into ex para you get rewarded out the ass. So that all fits what you’re looking for.
I agree.
Also, if I land an EX parry I’m pretty confident I will just win the match.
Also, not saying SF is better or worse. Just different, which goes against my usual muscle memory and habits. But that’s fun.
Air counter is the only thing you need. Nothing forces respect like a 200 dmg AA into oki.
Bonus: pretty much guarntees their next jump is empty lol
Yup. Kolin players can’t complain about the lacking AA damage in this game. People stop using jump attacks vs Kolin after that first counter usually.
It’s good, but I’ve moved to using VSkill most times.
Oki is a little weaker, but it has an easy Input and it still hits them if it’s a empty jump.
But she doesn’t say ON YOUR KNEES when you do that…
I need to do a lot more of both of those. EX Air Counter is like 40% of the reason I wanted to play the char.
To add something.
DJ is right, Kolin lets me avoid dealing with a lot of SF-y things. And I like that.
However, it also means I’m not really learning to deal with many of those things.
@Vhozite I am amused you hate my abigail. My Abigail is terrible.
I hate all Abigails on principle.
Funny enough last time i fought yours i noticed my command dashes weren’t crossing up so i that gimmick may not work against him from far away.
Kolin has really good fundamentals though so you can still learn SF while blowing up SF at the same time. Might as well be cheap and learn SF than be fair and learn SF.
Less refined Abigails can be the most terrifying. Even after falling down the nerf tree he can still shit out some damage so if they zig when you think zag it can be GG.
I still don’t react to that gimmick well.
It’s in the list of things that I’m taking tons of damage from that I will eventually get the right response into muscle memory.
It’s right behind snatcher from Ed.
