imagine arguing which shit smells worse
I will agree that SFV Sakura (and Cody) have a few NRSish animations, but their good stuff is good. Lots of fun post whiff animations also.
This show off the difference the best to me.
SF4 Sakura just looks mad whackamole with barely any time to catch the visuals of her c.MP motion. It’s like a really bad interpretation of the CPS2 sprite animations in 3D.
SFV’s has more transition will still being speedy and has nice little post whiff animation also.
Yeah one is useful and one isn’t lol
usage of move now defines if it being badly animated matters
As wonky as that move looks… it does actually match the frame data.
If you picked the average SFV animation and asked someone to tell you when the move ended… they would probably be wrong.
These are separate problems really. SFV animations look better, but they are also kind of a lie.
Comparing SF4 Sakura to SF5 Sakura isn’t really a good example. Dudes literally won’t play her cause she looks janky.
Besides all you boys thrash off to Japanese cartoons surely SF4 is worth more hand action.
I would say that’s a lesser problem as you can still generally get the idea of when the move is being active and in use. SF4’s c.MP if you’re just comparing it on a visual standpoint has no weight to it. It just happens and her body barely moves.
It’s just visually very unnatural especially the way her legs just kinda gumby back into place.
SF4’s animations were very much meant to be about keeping things visually familiar regardless of whether they looked great or not. That style has its own charm but it leads to a certain choppiness that’s unfamiliar with 3D animation.
SF5, otoh, is doing a lot more visual than 5 did on regular things. The way the characters are moving in a lot of places is great. Look at the Ken Comparison Estarix posted. You can’t say any of that is bad animation. Not with a straight face anyways.
There are some ugly ass normals in both games. But 5 has some rough animations and models in a few places, its still a definite improvement over 4.
Some of the changes in animation from 4 to 5 legit look like you went from ST to 3S. Don’t know why you’re hating. Also the SF5 sakura cr.mp is way better animated than the SF4 one. Look at the way her frame moves doing it. She’s putting weight into that punch.
Sak’s moves suffer from being badly choreographed and hard to make look natural. That’s the stupidest attempt at a crouching punch I’ve ever seen.
But both IV and V suffer from horrible quality control. Outsourcing your game leads to bad quality distribution who would have thought.
IVs animation is okay in some, horrible in others. Same as V. I think V has a better overall though.
TBF there’s no reason to do a punch like Sakura’s c.MP in a real fight any way. It’s a strange thing to do from a crouching position. Like bashing someone’s toes.
punching the floor is a good intimidation tactic
@flyingve I’m not following… are you saying the animation should end right after the active frames or when the hitbox dissapears?
"changed backroll animation "
We are not there yet imo with either game. SF5 is a bit smoother , but in reality just because something is more advanced doesn’t make it automatically better.
I like 3S graphics and I never even played that game.
Only type of punch one should be doing from crouch is punching someone in the nuts.
That’s the general problem I have with NRS attacks also. They do a lot of attacks that are just way too far out of what someone actually practicing a martial art would try to perform or a human being even.
What about her sMP.
Try to throw a lunch that stumpy in real life. You can barely do it.
But that’s more a broad complaint with SFV. To many attacks feel like the characters is actively pulling back their attack.
I attribute her s.MP as to being an A3/prox normal. It’s a normal that is “used up close” aka frame trap button, but because this is Neo A3 you get to use it wherever you want.
At least Ed is well animated
My problem with attacks since IV is that the fighters don’t add rotation to their attacks. I remember seeing Makoto’s 3S animations. They’re an absolute master class.
Nobody adds snap to their punches or kicks, it’s dumb.
