Post whiff animations are garbage and that is a fact.
Eh, that’s a goofy ass punch in the first place. It works in 2D because you know its mean to be unrealistic. 3D starts inching toward the uncanny valley stuff which makes certain animations start looking odd.
If you want to keep normals looking like their OG counterparts, you’re going to have to accept some rough transitions.
I remember when people said he wasn’t.
Nope.
By the time the attacks recovery has finished, so should the animation. You should be back in your neutral stance.
Many attacks in V (and some in 4) continue to animate after the move is, for all practical purposes, done.
The most obvious examples are G’s dance routines, and Zeku’s JoJo poses.
Cody’s constant knuckle inspections.
Then they should probably “normalize” his animations to better match the rest of his kit.
Stop motion Ed here we come!
These are taunts to get you to tighten up your execution.
They work too. You don’t ever get as mad as when you mess up a combo and he goes into his sign language calling you a wack squigga.
The one that irritates me the most is after EX DP.
There is no follow up there, and I still don’t have a great idea when that recovery is actually over.
The post whiff animations also add a lot of little personality based taunts if you KO with them.
It’s funny when people think they got taunted on after G kills them with s.HP.
I’ve created my own lore in that every time Cody checks out his knuckle post-recovery animation he’s just baffled as to why no tornado appeared.
Subtle lore.
They certainly do.
It’s just an area where form and function clash.
Those animations looks great, but when form and function clash… form should win.
I dunno. I’d like to hear what that ABI/Sugarpunch guy figures about the post whiff animations. He’s a big animation stickler and has never really brought it up as an issue visually or for gameplay.
But he’s not a gameplay stickler.
I like his vids, but he never considers the functional implications of these things.
I liked how SF4 had like 10 taunts for each character.
Sfv got lazy with that.
Would be a cool compromise if the post-recovery animation happened only on KO
Kinda like Soul Calibur 6’s supers
Now the old man says IV looks better than V!? Even brings up Sagat when he looks 100x better now.
Yeah I’m just trying to think of a gameplay issue I’ve had with the post whiff animations and I can’t think of any yet, personally. Though others may have their things.
Highland rarely wrong but damn he came outta pocket with some bullshit today
Once you learn it it’s no big deal.
But it makes learning the game hard when the visuals are misrepresenting reality.
It’s like having the scope in halo offset from where the bullets actually go. Once you learn it, it’s no problem, but damn if it isn’t stupid.
