He’s 31-32
My parents took me!! Most of the time there’d be neighborhood kids or adults that would watch me whenever my mom or dad had to do something. I’m 31.
Yeah I’m 32 and it was pretty common to be taken to play at an arcade while at the mall/movies/pizza/place/amusement park at that age. Most of my introductions to sequels for fighting games were whenever we went to the amusement park during the summer and I would be mad hype because I knew that shit was hitting consoles eventually (and was too young to be picky about anything being arcade perfect).
Watching idom is always a good bet, but when it comes to fundamental Laura play, 801 strider is my favorite. He rarely goes ham, just uses a slower grinding pace along with general aggression t9 get things done. Imo you could learn some stuff from him. He basically plays like how I/others have said. The fhp/st.hk/cr.mk game is in effect and he’s not afraid to jump or dash in, he also knows how to use the fireballs pretty decently. He’s got a good handle on Laura’s strategy.
My thought process there was to try and unglue Tables from the ground. Figured double/triple fireballs would get him to think about jumping at me which would let me protect the American Skies again.
When he wasn’t biting for even that I was just happy to take the free chip
The random EX fireballs were me trying to counter him waiting to EX Elbow on reaction, but he wouldn’t bite there either…just ended up wasting a lot of meter
ABBACABB
Genesis was my choice system because of this alone… Until MK2 came out and Nintendo realized they wanted some of that blood money.
Mortal Kombat is bad for your mind
I never played any MK game growing up and look how well I turned out!!!
You mean re-realized. They didn’t censor Ashtar stabbing Irene Lew in Ninja Gaiden 2.
I said 4-5 to establish my age range at that point. In Sep 93, I was exactly 5 yrs old. So 5 going on 6 is more accurate.
For anyone complaining about Mortal Kombat 1 , take a look at the NES version.
The dark ages…
EDIT : Truth be told ,its not terrible for a NES port though.
Ahh, sorry, I didn’t realize that… Actually, I don’t know if I’ve ever played a Ninja Gaiden game other than the original on NES.
I never even knew it had an NES port.
I don’t think I played many fighting games for NES. The closest would be wrestling and boxing games. Most of the stuff I played was adventure based. There was this game called Wall Street Kid for NES where you invest in stocks and bonds, go on dates, own property and stuff. I had no idea why I even had that game since it’s far too complex for a kid.
I think that NES port is either not really legit/from Acclaim/whoever or not officially released.
There are quite a few bootleg “NES ports” of fighting games out there from fans.
I’m not gonna lie, I only really started playing/caring about Mortal Kombat when MK9 dropped and that continued to Injustice/MKX.
I played MK2 once as a kid but got scared by all the spooky skeletons n blood n stuff. My cousin got me with the acid sewer stage fatality. Seeing that skeleton bobbing up from the murk? I was DONE.
The funny thing is there was always console wars amongst friends back in those days. I remember when people would debate about Streets of Rage Vs Final Fight.
Not sure if you’re familiar with the TMNT Tournament Fighters games. There was a version released for Genesis, SNES, and NES. All of them were different. All were 2D, but the SNES was the best one by far. It felt like a Street Fighter game. The Genesis version wasn’t nearly as good. The NES one was solid for the console it was on.
Turtles in Time was one of those beat em’ ups that most loved back in the day. It was only released for Arcade/SNES, but Konami had made a Sega version called Hyperstone Heist. Definitely not on the level of Turtles in Time, but it was good enough.
@jocelot Ah, the body floating in the acid was definitely creepy. The spiky pit was another one I tried to avoid.
TMNT Tournament Fighters was awesome on the SNES. The NES version served as base for many of the fighting games hacks in the system even.
Now, TMNT: Turtles in Time is a weird case. The SNES version was actually better than the arcade version.
I have no idea how Konami managed to pull that off.
You should have SFV’s NES version.
From what I read awhile back, they wanted to add more content to appease the console owners. The Arcade version seems pretty short, whereas the SNES version has quite a few additional stages and cooler boss fights.
TMNT 1 and 3 for NES are probably the longest TMNT games I ever played.
Yeah those games were fun but damn they were hard. It was one of the first franchises with “cut scenes”. When you go to rescue Irene from Ashtar, he just lets her go but right before she reaches you, he stabs her with the Sword of Chaos. You see blood trickle down the blade. The cinematics in series were really impressive considering the hardware.
