SFV Lounge: Lupe please comeback! DevilJin moving to Mortal Kombat 11

This is where I am. I’m playing Chun and Sakura right now but I feel weird trying to get deep into a character that may change in a month. Falke is on my radar and I may go back to Vega. Not to mention any newcomers.

I wonder how soon we will get season 4 changes?

Hopefully it’s like right after capcom cup

Can’t remember exactly when the other season changeovers happened but I want to say it always happens in like mid-Jan.

Also I saw Creed 2 tonight and fuck that was awesome. Highly recommended if you’re a fan of the first one or the Rocky franchise in general.

Yeah, a coworker said it was one of the best movies he’s seen in a while… But this guy also thinks Kanye West is the Beethoven of our time, so I couldn’t trust his taste too much.

I loved the first Creed so I’m down for the next one. I still need to see Crazy Rich Asians also.

First Street Fighter and now Tetris. The Youngins are taking all the crowns. It’s an end of an era for the old folk.

My credentials:

I grew up watching all the Rocky movies on repeat (hell all Stallone movies on repeat). I’m one of those nuts that unironically loves the shit out of Rocky IV. So I’m definitely the target audience.

However I am also a picky fucker when it comes to movies in my older age. If this movie was a dumb cash in, I would say so.

It’s not as remarkable as the first Creed but that is a high bar and it’s still a really good follow up to both Michael B Jordan’s movie and Stallone’s from yesteryear. Which is a pretty neat trick considering the gap between them. Plus it’s a style of movie they don’t make much anymore.

Also Tessa Thompson is a damn beautiful woman and she features prominently in the film. In addition to liking her character I appreciated her as an offset so it’s not all just staring at crazy perfectly sculpted shirtless men. Though there is plenty of that and boy howdy did they make me feel like a fatmo.

Sako still holding it down for the old men. There was someone else also buuuut.

I saw it when I went home for Thankgsiving. It was a really good movie. Not quite as good as the first but It’s rare for sequels to surpass the original.

Awesome man. I’m in a similar boat with watching a bunch of Rocky movies as a kid. I often quote lines in normal day life and no one knows what I’m talking about.

I probably repeat Mickey’s “What are we waiting fer?!” line from Rocky 2 like once a month.

Rocky IV is the best one! There’s a sick montage on youtube of all his training scenes from that movie.

I watched 2 matches… what I general,y thought was yeah, too controlled. With Maura you really need to develop a “swinging for the fences” style, then once you’ve got that down a bit, get to a more controlled style. Atleast imo.

So the advice is the same as everyone else’s:

Way more st.hk. Way more fhp confirm. Way more dash ins and jumpins.

Ok so some stuff not yet mentioned:

Maybe you did it in later games, but your post L elbow game seemed a bit weaker. Imo the 2 most used mixups you should do are cr.lk,cr.lp L elbow confirm, and st.hp xx v skill back or st.hp xx ex fireball. Once you throw out enough of these your opponent will be forced to either reversal or block as the only options that will stop both, and that’s when you start to read those options and sprinkle in command grabs. The thing is you ARENT trying to perfectly predict every time your opponent will block so you can command grab them, you are just trying to put them into a situation where you can train them to eventually get hit by your command grab.

Other things, especially specifically against LW, train him to not button by throwing out st.hk liberally. Once that happens and he’s making you wiff/staying out of range/not hitting buttons as much anymore. Now is where you risk some dashins. And since you are already taking a risk that you training into your opponent, dont go with weak shit like a midhitting blockstring or a throw. Go directly into a command grab or cr.mk xx L elbow. It’s a risk but in sf5 people don’t watch their ankles so your dash up cr.mk can work. Once they get used to that and start to block low you can start doing dashup command grab instead. And of course thye will try and stop you from doing this by throwing out moves again to hit your dash… and that’s where your st.hk comes in again and the cycle repeats.

Finally, you need to throw way more fireballs when your opponent is playing off of you super defensively like the spacing that will was giving you. This will prompt any number of reactions from your opponent but the gist is that the opponent will stop giving you so much space and this will allow you to easier go into your dash/jump mixup and pressure game.

Also, don’t forget that Laura is essentially a v trigger character. The stun and damage she gets from it are where she shines. She’s not a great character outsider of that. I mention this so that you realize that you are basically playing with 2 different characters.

That’s the best thing they had that made it historical in pop culture.

MK idea was brilliant at first for appeal and aethetic but gameplay was so terrible. I’m not including bugs and glitch as judgement.

MK3 was the first game that had solid gameplay.

How I wish SF has a brilliant memorable song that would be a house hold names and be played in retro radio station like MK theme does.

When Kahn Kintaro showed up to this song. Shit was gonna go down!!!

…guess you didn’t play in September 1992…

With that in mind, do you think I made the right choice going back to Ken or do you see another character in that style I was using

i would guess we see something new when evo japan will happen.

Simple pick up starter kits

Will - @Akhos
Stop punishing literally everything with jab x2 into nothing. Be optimal, or at least confirm your jabs.

Shimmies, your throw game is coming along nicely(but Ken’s tick throw is cr.lp, not st.lp so you got jabbed out of it a lot) but I’ve yet to see you bait a throw. One of Ken’s best things is his shimmy payoff with st.hp.

Tables - @GetTheTables
Laura is a momentum based character yet your character knowledge is stripping you of any momentum taken. You don’t have meaties, you don’t appear to have set-ups, you can’t make use of EX Clap in neutral to force your turn.

Big thing I always pick up on from low to high level players is their ability to remain mindful of space. You can watch literally 5min of the vid and ask yourself “why did I walk back?” and the answer is because you’ve made it habitual, Laura doesn’t want to give up space and she doesn’t want to be away from her opponent where EX.Clap is less of a threat. It’s an unconscious thing but do not walk back for free. This isn’t just you, I’ve seen way too many people do this. Will has a lot of gaps in his gameplan, but you can see how mindful he is of screen space, he rarely walks back without a reasoning as to why, and because of this - look which one of you is getting dominance over the poke game.

5* step guide to seeing big improvement quickly -
Stop committing blindly to unsafe elbows, if you’re making a blind commitment at least use LP Elbow.
Learn how to properly apply regular clap and EX clap, it’s Lauras core.
Go learn some meaties.
Go learn some EX.Clap set-ups with and without VT1, CC sweep setups are a must-have, corner set-ups are an ABSOLUTE must-have.
Stop walking back and leaving Laura’s prime range for no reason, you’re making yourself less of a threat.
