SFV Lounge: It was coming and it CAME HOME. Ono is your Evo 2018 Chamion

Lmao Wesker my man.

On the flip side I bought DMC-HD and I gotta say these PS1 controls are fucking shit lmao

Game is fun though.

Also there’s like literally no dialogue in this game. Every game wants to be a movie now in days I forgot how the old shit was like lol

It’s definitely important to train your mind to stick to a conscious gameplan. Sometimes subconsciously you just wanna go into auto pilot and do what might work, but the problem is it will only work on the right person and the wrong person who figures it out will apply the proper punish and then the round is probably over. Since I’ve played so long I can kinda pick out how people have been playing and what rank they are and decide if they’ll get hit by something I’ll do or not, but sometimes I try to do something vs someone I expect to not be able to react and then they do and you go ohp.

It’s best to make sure you play as consciously as possible so you dont fall into too many things that you auto pilot out of nerves. Remembering to change up your gameplan on people’s wake up when they have super is one of the most important ways to train your conscious play. If you’re getting hit by wake up supers too often its because you’re being too auto pilot with your meaty offense. Sometimes if someone has super (especially a character that doesn’t have a DP like Bipson or Boxer), you just have to let them get back up or do a fake meaty and delay your pressure. It sucks cuz you essentially give them room to start pressure on you, but it’s better than taking a wake up super and then you’re down a huge life deficit or dead. If you have a character without an EX DP down on wake up, you have to know that they are thinking about a super. They dont have the luxury of a one meter EX DP to spend and get the bar later. If your brain turns off because you know you can hit buttons on their wake up all day before they get super, you’ll just get trapped into getting hit by the super later.

Like as a Cammy player if you take that wake up super from Alex and he has VT ready, he will dash up to you for meaty after HKD and then if you dont block a mix up or 2 you’re dead. Which Alex players know they can try and get away with because they dont have EX DPs to spend so its easier for them to rely on you stuffing shit on their wake up everytime to get the super.

Getting hit by fake cross ups and not getting an anti air are just realities of competitive play and not something you can control 100 percent, but just staying together when those things happen helps. Like if you’re not 100 percent sure you’ll get an AA try to at least block so you at least aren’t taking damage for screwing up the bad/slow AA attempt.

I’ve been playing fighting games long enough to never feel like “the worst player” or whatever if I have a bad streak. If I do it’s usually because of something tangible like “I need to stop using that frame trap on 3 framers it’s getting me killed” or “that mika player always command grabs after j.LK on hit or block and not making the defensive read on it is getting me killed”. Just have to start making it a thing for yourself to pat yourself for your wins, but treat your losses more as what you need to search for to win rather than just “oh bad day is bad, I’m bad”. The latter doesn’t really get you anywhere.

The mental aspect of this game is hard to understand when you’re a ‘brain’ kind of player. I do often this error of struggling because I can’t go autopilot on my opponents and most of the time they survive doing stupid things. I’m trying to learn how to accept my limits and train harder to go over them. I completely understand Wesker on his issues and if he is fighting against them being Master, there’s room for me as a Platinum. Atm I’m trying to find a balance between being blood - thirsty and be patient, but it’s hard for me being passive.

Just be like me and acknowledge you’re trash no matter how you’re doing

I find it works well

You say you are trash yet you are at least 50 times better than me at SFV! :stuck_out_tongue:

One thing I immediately noticed is you just sit there and block Alex lariats. Considering that he probably can’t always reaction power bomb your v reversal and you’re using a 3 bar trigger any ways, you might as well burn one to get out sometimes. If you just keep blocking lariats either one is going to hit you when you try to backdash or jump or you’ll just eventually get PB’d since lariat is one of the few moves that gives him a real tick for all his PBs.

I always default backdash after I block alex lariat, it always seems to work out in my favour in the end.
Neither hard or medium slash meaties when you pop out of the medium, so why not?

If he doesn’t have v trigger back dash isn’t a bad way out as long as you’re not near the corner. A good Alex will eventually make the read and CC sweep you if you abuse it. Once they have trigger ready there’s a lot of ways if you back dash it so I wouldnt recommend at that point.

Iirc Alex can hit the opponent with st. Mp after the Lariat so backdating isn’t an option. God I hate that move.

I like blocking

Blocking is my safe haven

Nerf Alex for violating it

Blocking is cool but v reversal after blocking kinda goes hand in hand with blocking. Plus the general rule is you can only block a command grabber so long. Showing off your blocking skills only good vs characters that don’t have command grabs.

But

But command grabs are cheap

I need to expose how cheap they are for the good of SFV

Zangief was just the start

I member S-Kill having a nice series of “get gud” articles on ye olde SRK.
It said something about noobs thinking blocking is their literal “safe haven” (in his words) which shouldn’t be compromised.

Funny how that old stuff still holds up to this day.

Yep, precisely what I was referencing

In all seriousness I’m just a bit too wary of using Ed’s V-reversal since it got nerfed (+2 frames of recovery and vulnerability to strikes at the end now). I’ll get used to the spots to use it again at some point.

The Domination101 articles.

Ive damn near got them memorized, but so do most older heads.
Funny thing is those articles would hate the state of how sf5 was designed.

Dom 101 talks about tick throws, overpowered pokes, broken chip damage etc etc etc and calls them good things. Sf5 basically said, fuck that.

I wish video games would stop sexualizing males characters. It’s disrespectful.
