SFV Lounge: It was coming and it CAME HOME. Ono is your Evo 2018 Chamion

To be true, I find almost every character not completely based around an actual martial art to be bland by definition. Unless you find a good gimmick to make it interesting.

G was just random.

G is loosely based around wrestling

Finding myself using VT2 with G more atm. Shit is slow, but seems like it at least gives him some type of get off him move. Don’t get why it doesn’t have more hits of armor though…

G is based around the 2nd amendment. That man believes in the right to bear arms and he is gonna put both of them on you.

If you hate freedom, don’t play G.

In IV he also had problems with aggressive characters so that’s nothing new for him. 5 frame DPs so easy to safe jump and with that game having hard knockdowns after everything he has to hold it. Ultra gives you delayed wake up, but outside of that he has one of the slower bdashes/focus bdashes and you’re slow walk Sagat so you’re not really going very far even if you escape vs shit like Yun/Cammy/Ibuki vortex. When I played Sagat in IV Abel really was annoying because you had to have your shot game on point and he was just sitting on a ton of tools that would blow up any bad/predictable shot.

Just like IV, V Ibuki can slide under low shots and now she has similar to 3S an aggressive air EX kunai that hurls her in from the air and starts offense. Like before he’s not going to be able to long term throw shots at her and will have to go in. At minimum be a 6 4 for her unless his buttons are absolutely amazing vs her or something. He’s gonna get blown out by Juri also. Her V Skill alone defeats his tiger shot game and she’ll be able to charge the next one once the first one hits. May luck out having a few buttons vs her, but you’re basically playing that match without tiger shots if the Juri is competent.

Low tiger shots only being minus 4 on block at closest range means he’s ready to be pretty strong (they were minus 7 in Ultra IIRC). His new s.LK is crazy especially with his walk speed. He had nothing like that button in IV. c.HP knockback CC is gift from the Capgods. Get to Alpha/CVS2 Sagat people.

Who has the best theme in SFV and why is it G?

Zeku don’t have a theme performed by Del the Funky Homosapien

Del would be sampling Zeku so he could be as stylish as him.

G’s theme is something I would listen to on my phone when I’m not home. It takes a little too long to take off though for a FG theme…

True, but lack of meterless dp and fadc along with sfv buttons, I’m thinking he might have a really rough time. I really just need to see how good his normals will be at higher levels

Yeah you have to protect yourself with normals and movement in this game for the most part. A character with a 3 frame normal, v reversal and throw invincible backdash for defensive options teamed up with another character that pretty much doesn’t have defensive options until he pops VT1 won Evo. It’s just a different game with different mentalities for playing defensively. Can’t worry about the IV stuff, gotta learn the new game.

He has a stupid long 4 frame s.LK that’s plus on block and an EX DP so anytime there’s a gap or you catch people trying to walk in you can push them out with s.LK’s. Most defensive/zoner type characters like Sagat and Falke usually come with plus on block lights that push the opponent back very far on block. Tap them with some lights and block push gives you the space you need. Always got V Reversal if they do something that doesn’t recover insanely fast also.

His c.HP will be good for preemptive defensive also since it’s a heavy button which means it will win priority trades, has solid range for counter poking and pushes them away, builds you v gauge on CC.

It’d be nice if G could get a 3rd level of presidentiality that doesn’t actually buff him any further, it just serves as an extra layer you have to knock off before you start weakening him.

Guess he’ll just have to duff you with normals, anti air and clog up the ground with fireballs like he does in most games. Not really sure why FADC gets brought up so much by, what seems to be, the SF4 crowd. It was only in one game.

As long as his normals are long enough, he might be in a similar spot as he was in CvS2 where he just hit you hard with 3 buttons.

Meterless DP is just a thing everybody else here is dealing with, so he isn’t exactly going to be in a position unique to him. So he’ll fare like everybody else that has to spend meter for reversal: shitty when mika gets in.

Do you think Terry will be playable?

Sagat is looking pretty strong, he actually makes people now want to jump and afraid of jumping because of the damage he can get off it.

I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS.

I’m 100 percent playing him.

With that said he’ll have a couple of ruff matches, G rog, cammy, possibly sim. Anyone that can get around fireballs easy.

G seems like a urien players next step. He sacrifices some defense options for more offense.

FADC gets brought up because DP FADC ultra was a pretty big deal for the character. He was fairly limited after vanilla, so having a practi al 500 damage AA/safe reversal was a big deal.

His overall toolset looks better here, though. And it’s not like he hasn’t been strong without FADC in other games.

g feels pretty strong tbh. Cr.mp xx fireball is an amazing wiff buffer into super confirm and hits from crazy ranges. Vt1 is the go to. Once he has that he has a crazy damage combo coming from his command grab. Even his presidential level up system feels good because if you level up off a bnb you don’t take a risk on the opponents wakeup, but you still get a good result… level 2 presidential is also very good.

cr.lk, cr.lk xx super was a big deal for the character, tiger shots with ridiculous recovery was a pretty big deal for the character, normals that dealt the equivalent of 120 damage was a big deal for the character…

Worrying about game specific things is a mental trap to developing new characters. The best question to ask yourself is: “Is this character basic gameplan actually feasible in this game? If not, then what is the new gameplan?”

For example, lets take Ryu. His basic gameplan is to throw hadoukens and keep the ground in control with cr.mks and shoryus. Can he do that in this game? No. What’s the new gameplan? Pick Akuma.

Tried watching Bonchan play on Openrectv, it’s impossible what a garbadge streaming service.
As for Sagat, i like him, i’m leaning a lot more towards VT2 at the moment for offensive reasons.
