SFV Lounge: It was coming and it CAME HOME. Ono is your Evo 2018 Chamion

I don’t think the issues you bring up (like mixups you can’t do much about, or strong buttons that are difficult to punish) are really unique to SFV at all. in fact you’d be hard pressed to find a 2d fighter that doesn’t have those things

VTs are a different matter… but the issue there lies more in them being almost entirely a comeback mechanic imo. having to get hurt a lot in order to unlock the coolest parts of your character doesn’t feel good for either player. I wouldn’t even mind a lot of the VT grime being built into character’s base kits because then you always get to fight good stuff with good stuff, instead of having to fight against oppressive VTs with your weak ass base kit

maybe you should jump more. going whole games without jumping as Alex just seems to make things harder for you for no real reason

This first army SF5 tournament is at the local base, Fort Bliss, but I forgot to renew my car registration so I can’t go on post.

RIP life.

Was gonna go body Chen for SRK and promote the local scene.

Went 0-2 again at my local. First match I felt the guy was just flat out better than me. The 2nd guy though I feel like I blew it. He was Abigail and kept doing gimmicky stuff like canceling normals into the running grab. It went down to last game last round with both of us around maybe 5% and he was doing charge punch right in my face. I made a horrible choice and did medium DP, first hit whiffed and he absorbed the 2nd hit to kill me.

Unlike last month where I just wanted to get in and get out, this time I really wanted to stay and get some casuals. It’s fun being around these guys, they get so hype for these matches and it’s something I haven’t experienced in a while. But just like last month my wife dropped me off and then went shopping around the surrounding areas. So I couldn’t just keep her there all night. I told her I’ll probably stay a while so she should head home first. So I’m really looking forward to the next event.

I don’t like jumping, just feels like too much of a risk

…precisely why Alex doesn’t fit me

Been having an awful time in ranked these past days.

I played today and went 11 - 15 and 6 of the 15 were losses to Hurricane. Now Hurricane is a super good player no doubt but i just don’t know what to do vs Cammy anymore as Chun-Li. This match is like me having to work over time while she just does whatever she wants.

And before the Cammy Defense force comes screaming about how she is all fair and legit and all of the bullshit, you guys keep making up, i wanna have a gameplan.

My issue with Cammy comes from the fact that everything she does put you in an uncomfortable position. So I can’t B.HK or st.LK her as an anti-air, fine i will air to air. Even when i air to air her, more often than not Cammy lands first and i would have to hold her pressure.

Other wise i would jump back and while that works, i am losing positioning and putting myself in the corner just because she pressed up forward.

Then there is that freaking cr.HP activation. I don’t know if regular humans whiff punish this move offline or whatever but its impossible online. Hurricane also confirms it on hit so i can’t even sit there and block and wait it out, if i am just waiting to block the activation, that leaves me free to her DKs and dashes. If i walk back and decided to stand block it, then cr.MK will happen.

Once she have a bar, i can’t throw a fireball since it is very easy for her to go through it on reaction. Once she is in the corner, i can’t B.HP and fish for a CC into mixup at all cause her V-reversal will get her out. I also prefer kikosho vs her (Can use the activation to anti-air from certain angles) so i can’t even get the V-reversal punish with a VTC.

As the games went on, i got so discouraged and just not motivated to play to be honest. He is a better player, yes, absolutely but i don’t believe that the character select screen didn’t make a difference.

I just don’t know man, i even took so many throws cause i didn’t wanna get shimmied lol. It was a very demoralizing experience to be honest. Need to go back to the drawing board in this MU and see if i can find any answers to anything she does.

Learn to love the tops. Don’t let the top tiers make you mad, be glad. Top tiers are your friend.

Abigail’s still gud and I’m sure you know how nice it is to press one button when people jump. :joystick:

If you the defending Guile player letting a bad jump drop so deep that you panic cr.lp you’re doing a lot more wrong.

ST: T.Hawk OS, Vega wall dive, Gief tick throw set ups, Honda stored ochio, Ryu Fireball Trap, O.Ryu unblockable set ups.
3S: Aegis unblockable, Oro unblockable, Kara throw nonsense from Chun/Q/Elena, Genei Jin giving all of Yun’s Normals super priority so they don’t trade with any other normals, Makoto SA2, Silly rose set ups from Dudley, Yang Seiei Enbu unblockables.
SF4: Lol everybody. Seriously backed up with OSes it was silly. It was worse if played Guile with his glitchy wake up hurtbox.
SF5: baby cakes compared to every other SF.

Any time somebody complains about something being busted in SF5, its kinda laughable. That’s not where SF5 is bad. Had they taken time to improve the neutral and left all the bullshit alone, people would’ve been a lot happier.

It was easier when Chun had the offense to reward herself for winning the neutral and getting in. Now you’re winning by papercuts with no heavy reward for getting close after the papercuts.

Infiltration was able to beat Verloren doing some really funky stuff. Using lots of j.HP as air to air to beat air options from Cammy and just basically was able to out neutral him for an extremely long period of time. Probably not real consistent for a long set as its Cammy, but he made it work.

Here is the issue Jin. This is Infiltration to dumb ass me and i full admit to Hurricane being a better player than me. Infil was also on the ropes here, it wasn’t like a dominating victory and you can just tell that Verloren got tilted.

Seems like a very specific mind game thing going on, and sadly it was offline in a tournament setting. Not online where the concept of whiff punishing anything Cammy does doesn’t exist.

I am glad to see Infiltraion seeing Cammy’s st.HK whiffed point blank in front of him, then get counter hit trying to punish it, so it isn’t just me lol

Not so much about it being a huge list of answers in the video, just figured if you watch there’s things to pick out and use. Like I know I’m not Fujimura, but I always find things to pick out from vids. Just like when I watched my old 3S videos to improve my Ibuki it wasn’t so much that I was worried about him doing things that I would have trouble doing, but analyzing and putting things in to make my own style out of.

Infil is known for using “mind game” counter picks that are more about playing against his opponent’s head than what the matchup is on paper. Like how Juri players probably dont like fighting Rashid, but he makes it work. Either way sure there’s a few things to pick from in there.

I find st.mk more annoying about Cammy than anything else with Gief slow heavys good luck beating that with priority.

What i picked up on the most is never trying to anti-air, period.

I noticed he isn’t st.LK or B.HK at all. He is letting her jump or is air to airing. Might try that but it is so hard to remove the muscle memory and try to undo what you usually wanna do.

Something i noticed though, perhaps 170 on an EX DP is a bit much, but Capcom and Cammy favoritism so ehhh

You gotta git gudder and dooooo it.

That’s part of the reason why I stopped playing Chun was I just dont like her dead spot when ground AAing. It’s not like a small dead spot vs cross ups that you can just beat with jumping back like Cody or Falke (can easily just spot when the opponent is getting too close to you and prepare). Chun has a nice spot inbetween her far and close AA where the opponent can just jump inbetween and not much she can do from the ground. It’s a hard spot to consistently cover since its a random space in front of you that regularly changes. Dont wanna be too close so you can s.HK, but dont wanna be too far so you can b+HK and they can coin drop in the middle.

I think Infil labbed up that she does have this dead spot for grounded AA, but liked her grounded neutral vs Cammy. Which probably prompted him to learn to air to air in any situation where the dead spot could be an issue.

I honestly think it is fair for characters with strong ground control to have spotty anti-airs.

However, fair doesn’t matter when you have Cammy,Akuma, etc, etc you know the rest of the top 5 flawless characters of SF5.

Like does Cammy really need to have the ground movement, to have ridiculous buttons, no anti-air dead spots ( WTF were they thinking with her st.HK now) and the best aerial game in the game, while also having some of the best anti-fireball options ? Not even gonna mention having amazing 3F that leads to mediums btw but apparently Chun’s cr.LP being 3F was game breaking. Then there is the god like V-reversal…sigh

I am sure it is fair, fine and dandy.

Not even gonna go in deep on Akuma, Guile, Ibuki and Menat since its 5 AM and i wanna sleep instead of sounding like a loser more than i am already.

Correction: Why are so many SF5 characters so freaking trash?

Also: Ibuki normals are just as wild as Cammy’s but for some reason people don’t notice.
