SFV Lounge: It was coming and it CAME HOME. Ono is your Evo 2018 Chamion

Zeku vs Ken feels impossible for the Old/Young ninja.

I must have no idea how to fight Ken feel like I get hit by tatsus all the time.

How should I be trying to approach the match up? What are my anti airs with Young Zeku against this monster?

Thinkin’ about sellin’ crack to make some more FM

Yeah Cammy is what happens when you’re not afraid to make a good character. She’s just good at what she’s always been good at. Having good stuff that’s good in SF.

Cammy’s buttons are more basic and easier to convert from. Like if someone new to Ibuki is mashing on c.MP with Ibuki the best they may get is a buffer into HK kazekiri. Which is nowhere near as much corner push as c.MP, c.MK spiral arrow. Certain buttons like Ibuki’s c.MK also are pretty unassuming pressure wise until she gets VTC.

Whereas Cammy’s c.MK is basically the best c.MK in the game for obvious reasons that everyone understands. Her s.HP is about the fastest heavy in the game and can be used more like a traditional heavy in a game where a lot of heavies have heavy start up and/or recovery. Without CC, Ibuki’s s.HK is just another button, but Cammy’s s.HP everyone easily sees get thrown around like Chun’s f+MP, but has heavy button damage and cancelable into corner carry that can end people fast.

SFV has fucked up your thought train if you think you shouldn’t be whiff punishing buffered mids at midrange like Akuma St.mk and Cammy cr.mp

Their frame counts are already low for mid moves, added on with the input delay makes them dumb. Main reason for their heavy use is the aforementioned silly total frame counts and lack of ranged mid tools to solidify retaliations.

Dashes are also pretty jank in V atm, I’ve had pro players tell me to dash more because it’s cheap.

What’s a good character in SFV to practice whiff punishing that’s not named Cammy

Edit: Better yet. what character is good for punishing players who try to whiff punish :^)

Guile, Karin, Rog, Necalli, Birdie

I’m scared to use Necalli because I might like him.

Ken, Necalli, Ibuki, Sakura, Birdie, ryu with st.lk shenanigans, Akuma, Mika, Kolin, and probably cody.

The tricky to whiff punishing is learning which buttons you can legitimately whiff punish in the first place.

Edit: Forgot Karin. Either way all of those characters above have practical buttons for whiff punishing.

Edit 2: Urien has a surprisingly good ability to whiff punish things with St.lk cancels and cr.mp stuff too. Cr.mp is deceptive with its 5 frame start up and forward movement. you can buffer silly things into it and nail people. But yeah, figuring out which things can be whiff punished consistently or at all is the trick.

Karin easily best whiff punishes in the game

Fast walk, 5f St.mp with mad range into 200 damage, long sweep for far stuff as well

Cammy probably at 2nd place cause of that stupid St.hp speed

Big portion of whiff punishing that’s super crucial in V is walkspeeds to enforce whiffs, or just get into range quickly enough to be there for the whiff

Yeah I was thinking Karin and Cammy still holds top 5 then add Akuma due to the having good conversion damage. Not too sure what the other 2 characters in top 5

Edit: I’ll add Ibuki to my top 5 also, forgot about wtf I just saw her do during the last few tournaments.

so I was playing Cody in training mode and at the select screen and in gameplay I notice that Cody does indeed in fact has stubble on all his costumes expect for his final fight costume.

Karin, Cammy, Akuma, Birdie, Cody, Boxer(Purely due to EX dash tbh), Guile.

Birdie and Cody have super solid range and can kinda just sit outside of your range and wait until you get bored and then st.mp you for even thinking about pressing something. Birdie has so much range he’s never really unable to retaliate.

Sakura st.lk, Ken st.lk and Ryu st.lk all super good but I wouldn’t say top 5. Honourable mentions for the shoto toe tap tho.

Sakura has cr.mp too. Its absolutely goofy looking and doesn’t look like it’ll hit anything…but for whatever reason ti does. It hits a lot and I don’t understand why.

Pretty sad that we don’t see Sakura a lot in tournaments, she seems above just OK.

Also random thing I just realized after playing this game for so long. Laura eye’s actually emit electricity. Well… a flash of yellow light. For some reason it happens faster when you model swap her with another character.

How in the hell do we ignore people on this forum?

Can’t really. Gotta just keep telling people they suck and aren’t better than you like IRL

am i the only one who thinks everyone in this game plays the same sorta? also dont like how theres kinda no footsies in this game.

there are definitely footsies in V, even if some characters emphasize them less than others

I agree that characters tend to play quite similarly compared to other 2d fighters, though

i think im still stuck on sf4 sorta, i only played dudley, cody, yang, sakura and ryu all of which were heavy footsie characters but the characters i play in sfv dont revolve around that gameplan as much. im just not enjoying this game

A lot of characters are kind of in similar gameplans so it feels that way. Way too much of the cast wants to hit you so they can get some sort of corner carry and do 6 shimmies for the win.

Right now there’s technically variety but the neutral is still boring as tits to play. People are so used to games being played from upclose that Menat and Guile setting some sort of distance is cheating.

You can’t win in this life.
