Because for Abi it wasn’t like, “oh this design works overall, here are some small issues we could change on the data to fix it up.”
Everything on him is a contrast to his archetype. Hurtboxes and upward. He was made ground up without the intention to even attempt to adhere to what he is.
You’d have to do a full scale rework to make him even somewhat function like a proper giant.
I like the way Abi works because proper giants suck more ass than Abi does. Abi being a fake giant means he can actually work in a fighting game meta for once.
Hugo worked in IV, he paid for his life in certain MUs like he’s supposed to. Sim is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Unique archetypes aren’t supposed to become generalists, it’s fucking retarded.
Hmmm I dunno if I can say Hugo worked in IV. I think the reason Abi did/does well in V is that he doesn’t have any of the matchups that Hugo had in IV that run him off the select screen immediately. By not being tethered to those hard lose at the screen matchups because one esoteric button blows up everything you do because of your size, it helps.
Fulgore got one of his moves ENTIRELY rearranged because it completely destroyed a limb character and a big body character on its own (and it didn’t even do that much damage, just the “broken” angle). I can’t have fun because 2 weirdo characters.
To me this post right here is why super giants are dumb. It doesn’t work unless you make them super dumb, at which point everyone hates it because it makes no sense.
That’s how SF has always been, what? It allows some very unique archetypes who don’t play by the same ruleset, and they dominate some and lose to others. Why should the groundwork change that the game has played by since it started?
You talking some nonsense, I feel like Pertho. Let’s just make Sim a generalist and see how that goes. Fuck it, specialised archetypes should mean nothing.
It’s easy to beat Abi even with his outlier big body toolset. He’s got plenty of counter picks regardless and if you’re going to tournaments easy to pick up one of those characters that still beat him.
That’s literally because he doesn’t play like a giant, Hugo’s crouching hurtbox was actually as tall as his model, which made the Sagat MU a pretty fucking solid 7-3 for him.
Abi don’t play by those rules across multiple MUs, so of course nobody boots him off the screen immediately. That’s my entire point. THEY SHOULD.
Not even KI thought so and that’s why I was not allowed to shoot an upwards laser with my character anymore. At its worst they take away from other characters to help Hugo style big bodies survive.
Well, the fear of a possible female version of Guile remains. I still think Juri is underated, she’s the kind of character who need just two buffs to become really stupid. Atm her fireball is good enough to force the opponent to back off or block in a game where 90% of the cast can bypass fireballs easily. Capcom knows how potentially good Juri can be and they don’t want that clearly.
